Thanks for addressing my comments on the previous version of this review. How about a review comparing "Diplomacy" with "Is Paris Burning?". The liberation of Paris would be a great subject for one of your "5 best" reviews.

Really knew that was and still good tough dealing with this especially on video platforms also could look into these movies Persepolis, Battle of Algiers or Burn! (1969) or if your looking into other parts could look into AK-47 and it's variants, MIG Jets, RPG-7, TU-95 bombers and tail gunners are just a few among American military stuff like B-52 Bombers, Apache Helicopters, or that other attack copter of Vietnam Bell AH-1 Cobra or that other battle rifle besides the M-16 the M-14 along with booby traps used by the VC really makes you wonder about that conflict and also may look into movies around the Tunnel Rats of Vietnam like Platoon is another anyway think it over and considering our times still many out there.

I should see it some day. This part of WWII history is largely omitted in Polish history books because at the same time Warsaw Uprising was taking place.

Think it was more about being realistic than the guy caring about the city. They didnt have the manpower to fight the resistance and burn the city.

People often forget how some people have to make the biggest sacrifices for the greater good Did he chose to save Paris because he knew it would make the relations with make relations bit easier between France and Germany Perhaps with due to the fact that he had lack of supplies to do the damages perhaps it was guilty conscience knowing that destroying Paris will leave his reputation badly remind me to refuse these orders for the greater good those are just my personal thoughts And I like how your cat was staring at you when you were talking about him almost like your cat had his own personal thoughts about the movie❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Given that this movie is based on Choltitz own memoirs it's important to know why he was put in charge of Paris by Hitler, he was known as the destroyer of Cities given what happened to Rotterdam and Sevastopol under his command, Parisians feared him greatly knowing what he had done there. Him not preceding with the order was more to try to save his own ass and the Wehrmacht had essentially lost control over Paris given that the resistance fighters outnumbered the number of German troops in the city. He knew it was over for him and if he had destroyed the city Parisians would have strung him up and the allies gladly would have let them, especially since French forces where first in to Paris.

Thank you for the review. I will be adding this to my to be viewed list. I would be very interested if you might mention in the description for the video where or how you managed to view movies or series you are speaking of. I find that very helpful even if you simply say you got it at your library or borrowed a copy from a friend. Peaceful Skies

i dont think he much cared for how people thought of him after the war/ chose this to be on good terms with the allies he knew if he didnt do it his family was at a huge risk and only luck saved them he essentially gave up his family to save franco german relations and countless pieces of art the moment family comes into the matter any choice of such magitude comes hard to any man nobody can blame him

I think it was less luck that spared his family and more calculated risk. By allowing himself to be captured by Free French forces that entered the city, it would look like he had tried to stand to the last, but his plans might have been stopped by the French resistance that had plagued German forces up until that point. With the confusion of war, and the need to keep German propaganda positive, it's not a stretch to think German high command would not really have known if the failure to destroy the city was entirely the result of the General's actions. Had he made an open display in front of American cameras or British representatives then the facade wouldn't hold up. But surendering to free French and resistance paints a different image all together, especially if you onsiider the fact that it would have been far easier to explain the lack of damage by attacking forces, if the attackers were highly invested in preservation of the city. Plus Nordling had promised to help protect his family using his country's political influence. And while there is no hard evidence of what was done, it again would not be a stretch to think that perhaps they acted as a cover, passing on information to the German High command that all attempts were made to destroy the city but all attempts were thwarted and the General had faught valiantly to complete his orders before his capture. I doubt an experienced, respected and decorated General like Choltitz would have left his family's fate purely to luck.
