In Seoul South Korea 18 years ago I was walking home from the subway station when an American man caught up to me and started walking at pace with me. He said...don’t look back but there is a man (Korean) following you. I think you should join me for a coffee at the next place and once he is gone then you can safely go to your home...I will never forget his act of protecting me and for the fact of his situational awareness which most likely saved my life.

There’s a group of K-pop looking teens who took advantage of the fact that K-pop is now popular. They would travel to poorer countries in South East Asia and rape the young girls there. You can look like an innocent K-pop star yet be a violent rapist. This is happening in the Philippines with Korean foreigners.l

Be aware of your situation and surroundings. Don’t play on your phone while walking alone at night. Carry pepper spray or a weapon of some sort. Wear comfortable shoes with no heels. Don’t rely on someone saving you all the time. You know the risks. Minimize them as much as possible. As a man who has faced violence on the streets. You have to understand it can happen to you too. But since I was ready for it? I’m able to type this today. I often wonder what color his eye patch is.

Yes it takes good men to look out for our women. It’s shouldn’t be a men vs women like the creator is trying to promote. She’s basically saying the law shouldn’t be blind and that killing a women should have a bigger punishment. She lost me on this one, especially since males are victim to violent crime at a higher rate than females. Murder is murder and rape is rape and it’s wrong no matter the victim to culprit. And the fact she’s saying a schizophrenic’s POV on women is the norm shared by all men is insulting. She even doubled down and said “I’m not making this a man vs women thing but if your male and have a opinion different from mine then shove it and go look in the mirror” is extremely narcissistic. I love women, would fight wars and die for the girls in my life but she lost me in this video. Feminism should be about equality and not superiority.

there should be a law that makes it so that if the doctor of the victim (or emts) states that the victim was in a state of unconsciousness they should be treated as UNABLE to consent and a fine. There’s probably something like that but it’s probably mostly used for people intoxicated. And intoxicated vs straight up unconscious but sober is completely different.

This literally happened to me in Seoul getting off the subway, I felt him from going up the stairs from the station. When I realized I was getting closer to my friend’s place. I turned into a shop and called my friend’s husband to meet me (she was at work and I went out for the day to sightsee until she was off work). The guy stayed out there as I waited and I only turn to look at him when my friend’s spouse met me, that’s when I met his eyes and he stood there for a while before turning away. He looked confused and surprised at the same time. After, I told my friend about it and they said they won’t say it’s common, but it happened enough to not be shocked. It was the weirdest experience, especially since I am a dark skin black American woman. Im kind of invisible during the day in Korea, definitely never thought to get that type of attention in Korea. My friend was killed in 2015 at 22 y/o by her husband because she "Was caught getting out of the house when he was out partying". Stabbed over a dozen times (she was approximately 100 pounds). He got 9 years because "He showed remorse"...got out on weekends after 3 years, got out on probation after 6 years - attempted on doing the same with his new girlfriend. A guy (only a few weeks ago) live streamed the murder of his wife because she dared applying for a restraining order because of "a few slaps". Her last words before she got shot in the head on camera were "I was scared of you". Only a few days ago a woman got bitten on her face by her ex husband in broad daylight. While a stranger defended her, the ex said "That's my woman. I can do as I please". I myself woke up one too many times in the middle of the night with my pants suddenly down or fingers in where they do not belong while I was sleeping and unable to consent. His excuse "It has been days - I couldn't help it". Not all men...but oh boy - there are enough of them. And the damage the wrong ones do, the right ones spend a life time and then some, to put together...if we even live to tell the tale.

No, men are afraid women will get other men to gang rush them. You know nothing about the real world to say something so stupid. There is always some simp looking to fight. Guys who say "you got a problem" when a foul woman runs her mouth insulting and provoking people in ways men simply wouldn't because it's a death wish. Then when a man is provoked they have to consider fighting an entire room of people plus the police. Women, especially in the west, are not afraid of acting like a (very immature) man 99% of the way. As a man, I don't see how any decent man could see this as women vs. men cases Honestly, these (and so many of the cases covered by this channel) are very clearly men vs. women cases. So many of these would never had happened if the victims were not women and it's absolutely infuriating to see how little women are regarded around the world (including where I live). The amount of victim blaming, direct targeting, and the lack of support from authorities and the so-called justice system are nauseating. I don't know how to help. I wish I did. But it's difficult to know what to do when your very presence could be enough to trigger someone who has been a victim of a man. I feel tremendously for the suffering women have to endure. At best, I can empathize but (even as a man who has been the victim of SA) my own position of privilege is such that I can never truly understand the atmosphere of fear that women have to live in.

So... They found her completely disheveled with her underwear half on and she was bleeding from her rectum for a month, but she seemed totally fine and walked normally throughout ALL the CCTV footage PLUS the doctors couldn't get good DNA samples because they were trying to save her life. So like... Do they (the court/judges) think she somehow unzipped her own pants and took a single leg out of her panties just to put her pants back on before or after she was assaulted? Like... If she was fighting for her life, at what point do they think she had the time to put her clothes back on like that??? Idk. I get that some of it is "circumstantial evidence" but look at the portfolio of concrete evidence around all the other things. Like, I'm not a zoologist but if an animal quacks, can fly, can swim, lays eggs, has a bill for a mouth, has short legs, orange webbed feet and waddles, I'm PRETTY inclined to assume the animal is a fucking duck. As humans, we're intelligent enough to deduce what happened without having to always SEE the crime happen. I cannot believe people want to "debate" about what happened because there's no video evidence. How disgusting.

Here at my country we just had a case last month about a girl that went partying with some friends and drank too much. A "friend" of hers called her an uber and let her brother know she was going home, but the brother didnt see the message because he fell asleep. The girl passed out in the car and after they arrived, the driver tried to get her inside but wasnt able to, so he left her sitting against something at the sidewalk. The girl didnt last 6 minutes passed out at the street, some guy immediately grabbed her and brought her to an abandoned field, and raped her. When Steph said about the drinking culture at South Korea, but then complemented saying typically women dont pass out from drinking at the streets, all I could think about was that the victim of that case wasnt even able to be left alone for 10 whole minutes, the moment someone laid eyes on her, all they could think about was abusing her.

The saddest thing is, within 6 minutes she was taken away, and there was a hospital within a 6 minute drive from her house. I dont really have the full details, but makes me think if all those people were men, including the friend. People do say that the only culprit is the guy who assaulted her, which is true, the other people didnt really have the responsability to take care after the drunk girl, but they could have, and it would have taken near the same time it took for her life to be ruined.

They had to feed their families!" and "do you even care about victims and public safety? Lawlessness leads to more lawlessness, and these light sentences create repeat offenders and more victims." And not that it matters because the public can't do anything about it anyway. Hi Stephanie. Please read this. I'm from a small town in South Africa. A few years ago my cousin Percy was dating a girl who was cheating on him with a police officer. One day, Percy found out about the cheating. He ended things with the girl. The same day, he went fishing with his friends when the cop stopped him and put him into the police van. The cop and his friends beat my cousin to the point of Him almost dying before throwing him in a jail cell. There was another guy in the jail cell that tried to help him. Percys mother tried to see him in jail and they didn't allow her to. The guy in the jail cell sent a message to percys mother that he needed to talk to her and that he has something he needs to tell her about Percy urgently. A few hours later, my cousin was found hanging in the cell. The cops told my aunty that he committed suicide but both his legs and arms were broken. How could he have tied the rope? The entire thing was a cover up. Both the guy in the cell and the cop disappeared and his death was ruled as a suicide. My aunt tried to get a lawyer to fight the case but they didn't have enough money to proceed. We know he was murdered and that's what the guy in the cell wanted to tell my aunt. But the cop got to him before he could say anything. That guy is missing till today. Even his family hasnt heard from him. Please could you cover this case Steph? I want people to know about my cousin. Thank you so much. 😢❤

Also basically telling men to never challenge women. It's more rooted in a general culture based on power dynamics (based on age, gender, rank, etc) and way of thinking bleeds through into the justice system.. This is obviously changing with each passing generation, but we are still currently at a point where a lot of the people in power are older men who grew up learning that the well being and reputation of men, especially high ranking men, are literally more important than that of women. IMO the male-only military draft is a major aspect of sexism that continues to persist in Korean society. The male half of the population and female half of the population are essentially split off for the first couple of years of their early twenties and during that time are taught different things about how to behave and what their societal roles are.

So my dad who is someone that is very careful and alert b/c he was once a victim of violence, struggles so much knowing that this is what women all over the world live with. One of my friends as a girl was assaulted and so badly her womb had to be removed. Her father threw her out after ut all for not being a "woman anymore and how can he marry her off now?" That she was no longer his "good Christian girl. Just damaged goods and must have wanted it." She eventually grew up to decide to transition to male. She had no womb, or fallopian tubes or even overies and was forced to take hormones anyway. Now she is a man. I asked if it was what she had always wanted and he told me, it is to be more safe in this world of men. Being one was safer and now works and lives as a man. It has been a huge change but now he feels safe and is not even being pressed to marry or have kids. No one is upset about him living happily alone with his dogs and home and travling the country. No gay, not gender queer, just safer and already was "destroyed as a female medically." So he felt "why not?" Also now that their father is dead they get to reconnect with mom and siblings!😊😮

This reminded me of a gender-based homicide that happened in my neighborhood. Especially the part about how women can't reject men without potentially fearing for their lives. A few years back, in 2016, my neighborhood and the entire city was rocked with a horrible crime. Caroline Nosal worked at a local grocery store with a man named Christopher O'Kroley. They shortly became friends, but not too far after, she would be shot dead in the parking lot and her murderer was the man she had been friends with. He started having feelings for Caroline, and she didn't like him back. He sent her a bunch of explicit, horrible messages and then she told him not to talk to her anymore. She tried to get him fired, and he finds out, he shoots her in the parking lot. He did get life in prison, but it's a horrifying reminder of how women are treated in modern day society. Rest in peace Caroline.

This kind of hatred towards women is based on cultural expectations and stereotypes. For example in my culture women aren’t expected to raise their voice when talking to men and if they did so they would get shouted at and shut down no matter how important the issue that they are discussing. Women are expected to be vulnerable, weak, fragile, and if shown any sign of “masculinity” they are viewed as crazy, or unworthy of trust

Which is why men will easily admit or even brag they've been in a fight, but NO one talks about SA. sex is meant to be a loving and procreative act. For it to be violated in such a way, WHILE unconscious. It's not comparable. And it happens 98% of the time to women.

Seriously! The older we get, you do get that unfortunate reality check that the world is fucked everywhere. All we can do is live selfishly, because so much pain, violence and beyond is all around us. It’s so sad. And you just feel so numb or helpless because we literally cannot save everyone :’(

What I find really disgusting is how some of the commenters have the audacity to call this that it's not gender based violence. OMG!!!! What else should happen to this poor woman for this to be considered what it actually is?!!!!! And the other sickening part is how the law protects these predators, allowing them to keep engaging in their destructiveness!! Why so much hate towards women!!!! What did we ever do to you?!!!!

I am so shocked with korean law. Korean judicial system cannot be considered as the law. I am quite disgusted, law in all countries are biased against women but "oh my God" korean law is a complete joke. My heart really bleeds for Mini. I truly hope she can get through this eventually, and I truly admire her incredible bravery.

Schizophrenia is one of the saddest mental issues to exist. I do believe that in some cases, like this one, where they need constant care, these patient should be in proper government funded live in facilities with proper care. If that happens all the time we would have less crimes by schizophrenic people. They need protection from themselves and for the general public safety.

Men will never know the fear us women face. We can’t even go for a walk let alone reject a guy without fearing for our lives. This case over all reminds me of that guy that pushed a girl and her friend off a bridge just because she rejected him. Like WTF! Edit to add: WHEN WILL THE KOREAN LAW AND JUSTICE SYSTEM CHANGE?!?! ITS DISGUSTING!

I mean, probably in high crime areas men could know this fear. Where refusing to give a guy a cigarette could get you beaten up, and yes, even raped

@@nanouberthe7598what do you mean? Does that mean they aren't really in danger or something because it's men to men? I do agree women in general are more in danger because they're seen as "easy pickings" (children even more so) but we can't just disregard anything men could have gone through (by men or women or otherwise) because they're men. It's quite dismissive, inconsiderate, and even hypocritical right? I'm sorry if I misunderstood your comment though.

I don’t comment often, but I think this is a good time to chime in. I think Stephanie covering these cases of violence against women is so important because it happens every single day. I can’t tell you how many female friends I have that experienced sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, or harassment by men. All I can do at that moment for them is listen and empathize. I feel powerless myself, I can only imagine the pain and trauma something like that will cause. To that point the whole, “not all men argument” is not working. The bar is hell, truly. It’s only it’s getting worse. So if you are good man, prove it, and stay a good man. Pass your good nature onto your those around you as best as you can. Guys we need to understand that women are not for your desire. They are human beings that deserve respect and dignity. We need to understand how to listen, empathize, and understand. Maybe then things will get better. Until then be safe out there. And for the guys listen, the one thing people value the most is to feel SAFE, like to actually be SAFE around you, don’t break that!
