People like this are nasty. We buy to resell at boot sales and on one occassion a lady gave me the change before I gave her the money. It would have been easy to walk away but I personally could never do that. We have also sold at a boot sale and we had PSP games stolen from the boxes. It is always best to have at least two people selling, one to sell and one to watch what is going on. Good luck in the future.

Theft is theft & it happens a lot @ car boots, I've had it done to me and they target one person sellers. A good tip with selling footwear is to just display the right one like they do in shops & with games/DVDs just the cases and if they're interested with your price show the match. Also have a camera recording over your stall to deter temptation. This guy will eventually get outed!

My friend had a roll of gaffer tape stolen off of his stall at Shootash car boot near Romsey, Hampshire not long ago. A buyer told him of the theft, he then, along with the boot sale owner, confronted the lady and, lo and behold, they found the tape in her bag. When asked why she stole it, she merely turned round and said "because I could" She was in her 50's.When selling at a boot sale it's 'trust no one, suspect everyone'. There's thieves and scammers at all of them

Some sellers at my local car boot sale only put one shoe out, then the buyer has to ask to see the other shoe, then they can keep track of who is looking at them

I had this happen to me, someone walked off woth some decent toys didnt buy anything off me, the worst part of carboots is the ambushing of several people asking something at once which creates a perfect distraction for thieves

I think the problem is allowing people to bag stuff before paying as you can't keep track on what people are taking. I've noticed a few of the resellers do it and then the people on the stall can't remember what they've taken always. It's the same when people are trying to set up and they have groups of people rooting around asking for prices it's not really fair on them. I'd never do a car boot on my own you need help to keep an eye on things.

I've had a few things that I've noticed go missing in my time. Even caught one red handed stealing from me before and confronted her, she's a regular at our local ones, I wonder how much she has gotten away with. Always have to be looking round even if someone is asking you questions about something, they work in pairs/groups where you will be distracted at one end and they are helping themselves at the other end.

Unfortunately Boot Sales are rife with thieves , When i used to sell retro games i had to keep the actual carts and discs in the car and leave out empty cases

Bootsales are sketchy places, people selling stolen goods, people selling fakes and people go to steal because it's easier than stealing from a shop and usually has zero repercussions if you get caught. It's like this everywhere, as a reseller who frequents car boots, I feel like you should know that anyway, even if you don't want to admit it

Oh ive had it all - people walking of with stuff in their hand - people with an well practiced way of confusing you with regard to money like saying they are waiting on their change when they havent even given you the money and they know to do this when your overwhelmed with customers so you start to doubt yourself - they got a million and one ways of robbing you

I done a car boot stall many years ago, turned up early and constantly bombarded by people asking me to open boxes and cases, before even setting up properly! Had one guy who took a coat of a stall and did not notice and was wearing for at least an hour walking around the field with it! But he came back asking how much for the item! They'll nick anything at car boot, i had a plant stolen out of my trolley once it was deep in a pocket so it could'nt of fallen out. The worst thing i've ever witness was last year when i was selling at a car boot, a guy on a stall next to me had £450 of taking stolen out of his unlocked car :(.. I normally sell on my own at car boots but don't take anything of real value. I always use a bumbag aswell to keep my money on me at all times. Sorry this happened to you.

Id like to say there was some kind of mix up but that was unfortunately a chancer who wasnt even good at it, it is hard with 1 person selling to watch over everything and deffo 1 shoe out would work better for next time, theres people like this everywhere and its happened to most of us at some point, my eyes were on him from the start and its sad you have to be less trusting but rule 101 at a bootsale these days trust No one !!!

I've been selling at bootsales for years and only caught 1 person stealing, they took a whole tray of ps1 games and ran off.
