We're reminded of a couple of things about Ding... 1. He has a flair for mating nets, and 2. He's almost more dangerous out of his preparation.

Yeah, Ding has a terrific middle game. It is both fluid, natural and dangerous. I remember, already around 2017 Ding's middle game play rivaled that of Magnus, sometimes surpassing it.

The commentators were talking about how exd4 is prabably unplayable just as Ding played it. Reminded me of the self-pin that won Ding the World Championship.

What a great tournament Wijk aan Zee is, and I have been enjoying some live commentary. Not wishing to do down the current version too much, I do wish Hastings could recover its former glory.

@synchronium24
@synchronium24 Жыл бұрын
@@roqsteady5290 Yes, the Berlin is the main reason top players started playing the Italian again. I figured Magnus' 4. d3 to avoid the endgame would give white more chances, but these days Berlin players neutralize that pretty well too.

Ding Liren has once again proven to be a very strong player. He won a game even though he was already out of theory after just a few moves

Well he is the world champion. You don't be world champion without being a strong player lol. Even before he was world champ, everyone already knew he was super strong and always in top 3 or top 5 for like decade now or more.

I'm very happy for Ding, I know that in a way he's a king without a crown, but he's still the world champion. I hope he can show us his best again.

Arguments for Rook to d2 could be getting off of the white squares, doubling Rooks on the e-file as well as giving the Queen room for rerouting to the Kingside. And yes: Qg5 - as in the game - is not a check.

Loving all these giuoco piano games! Interesting how aggressively Gukesh handles it. I much prefer an early castle , Re1, and then the traditional Nc2-f1 maneuver. Don't really love Bg5 so early myself. Feels developed enough on c1 for awhile! This game was a really interesting treat to watch what happens if the players go an entirely different direction. I feel like I don't play giuoco piano in order to get that kind of crazy position as white, and after watching what happened in the game I'm reaffirmed in that stance haha. 14.d4 seems crazy in this position. Even though the engine likes, it, I find myself wondering, is the king safe enough to get away with that? Talk about bold play!

yup but Na3-c2-e3 is interesting. it looks just bad on b5. also the bishop on g3... i thought it was a mistake to go Ng5 if it is forced to g3 with no funky Nxg5 business.
@kiraleskirales
@kiraleskirales Жыл бұрын
Rd2 makes a lot of sense if you see the game continuation with Bf5. It provoked the bishop to move twice, effectively gaining a tempo, and stopped Qg5 from being a check and winning the Knight on f5. Unfortunately for Gukesh, the knight was better on g6 than on f5, so it was the right move for the wrong plan.

I think gukesh play rd2 because of check in the lines aftar Qg5. No check.

Fantastic stuff from Ding, who is better than the others, except of course Fabi and. Magnus. Thanks Daniel.
@robinesperoza

I think Rd2 was played because Gukesh didn't know what else to do. This sounds lame; but I think it's just a mistake and some ghosts appeared in his calculation with Bd3. Other than this move it's not easy to improve whites position. I think practically whites position is more difficult than blacks. (Black has the simple aim of improving q-side pieces). After spending 14 minutes Gukesh probably thought "doubling on the open file can't be bad". It would be uncharacteristic of Gukesh, but we all falter under pressure at times.

Odd one from Gukesh. I didn't expect it to deteriorate so quickly after long castling. I guess Ding was in a mood to call his bluff. Great to see the WC back in action. Look forward to what comes next. Thanks!

Why on earth you english commentator are so terribly pronouncing the names of the players. Horrible. For many years now, I suffer with Nepomniachtchi. The champ to ruin a name is Nacamura. Liren himself told our indian streamer the correct pronounciation. ( Ligen ). But I learned right today from this indian man that he accepts LiRen. Is it so hard at least to stress the correct silible. GUkesh, David. Not GuKESH. Listen to the indian people. And secondly I wanted to tell you, - if you are not a spiritual person , that all these young genius chessplayers are souls who for so and so many lifes practiced chess. Take it for granted. Thats the secret. Through many lifes one gets the feeling for what is possible and what not. Deeper and deeper... Reincarnation is the real. Can you not see? Where do all these hords of genious minors come from?

1) I "love" how your comment is full of casual racism. Maybe you should stop for a moment and consider _why_ English-speaking commentators would have trouble with certain names (or why French speakers would have trouble with the *r* sound in other languages, or why Japanese speakers would have trouble differentiating *r* and *l* ) 2) Who is this "David" you're addressing? There's only GM Daniel King speaking in this video. Ironic you'd mock his pronunciation when you can't even be bothered to get his name right. 3) GM King is in fact quite well-known to pronounce non-English names very well. He's always making an effort to match the original pronunciation. Again, ironic how you picked _him_ for your generic anti-english rant. 4) It's not GM King's fault if Liren's name is using the wrong transliteration to the Latin alphabet. Oh, and before you assume too much about me, _maybe_ English isn't my mother tongue either. *edit:* typo fix

Trying to correctly pronounce every name from other cultures is a fool's errand. Meanwhile, you botched the spelling of Nakamura, and GM King's name is Daniel, not David.

Come on is this a troll comment or what? Calm down… Also I speak Chinese and I can tell you there is no English letter that 100% correctly indicates how to pronounce 人 (ren), it’s a mix of English’s ‘ren’ and ‘gen’, but honestly, it’s close to ‘jun’ The r is phonetically closest to ‘j’ in English, like ‘jus’ (French cuisine term), ‘joao’ (Portugal name)
