When you have lemons, make lemonade! WE have excess containers because we export minimal finished goods and import everything. So ships come to our ports with goods and the containers get left behind and the ships leave our ports empty. We don't even fabricate the containers ( i stand to be corrected). this is great stuff and hope the idea expands to help with lowcost housing.
@sundayabanise95082 жыл бұрын
No, most of the containers are rented from their base and return whenever they offloaded their goods in fact they have limited time they must return, failure to do so there’s always a fine to pay. No container is wasted the one that are seeing not returned are the one the agents bought
@WazirinJosnEnvirons2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Possibly the mountains of containers around Lagos are resold from agents who paid for the containers then. I always assumed it was a logistic inefficiency to be carrying deadweight on ships to diffferent ports around the world. Imagining if a ship had 3-6 ports to stop before going to home port weeks later.
@odutayoademayowa58302 жыл бұрын
The containers must be returned, else a penalty is paid. Those containers are assets to the shipping companies.

I think containers are GREAT for businesses. They are quick and easy to setup. I would not advise for someone to use a container as a primary home - if it is for a business like an AirBnB then that works well but not as a primary residence. I would make an exception and say that if you are just starting out and need a cheap place as a primary residence, then 1 container could work while you save your money to build a proper home.(e.g. buy a few plots of land, bring the container and make it livable and live rent free while saving) I would definitely like to see these type of projects make their way to my area in Sierra Leone
