To him, we're still living in the 2020/2021 identity politics wasteland, when Bread-tube and CRT were king and Kyle Rittenhouse was a persecuted underdog on death row. And to be fair, 2020/2021 was a shameful couple of years for the left/far left, but since then Adam has totally turned a blind eye on the rising anti-liberal right side of the political spectrum, and dare I say, contributed to it by giving cover, or as he would call it, "steel-manning" the conservative argument. Which was totally fine 4 years ago when a conservative argument was "Hey, maybe we shouldn't allow racism to white people" or "Hey, maybe capitalism and America is based." or "Hey, maybe Kyle Rittenhouse isn't a mass murdering racist'" all very good stuff. But now in the year 2024 Adam is steel-manning the conservative argument that "Hey, Donald Trump must really love this country if he's willing to stage an insurrection in order to save it, right?!? Dude's got passion." That and always equivocating the slightest gaffe from the Democrats as being on the same level as Trump/MAGA

Adam is trying to say that Trump isn't authoritarian because Trump thinks (deludedly) that certain authoritarian actions are not authoritarian, they're just how things work. In the example he gave, he seems to be trying to draw someone who is actively authoritarian, but delusional in his execution of authoritarianism. Not a good argument imo, Trump is definitely a guy who likes doing things that are authoritarian.
