I've owned large suv and minivan with having 4kids and would prefer the minivan over the suv. Better gas and easier to drive around. The seats can be removed or stowed essy and have a great amount of space to haul larger items. Most suv only allows 3rd row to stow away. I prefer the 2 separate seats in the middle row for when only have 4 people riding, everyone has their own seat without needing to share a bench seat (kids fighting)

It does not matter if they pay the extra 3k after they pay off the car off or not. They pay off the car, then sell it, he get's 22k. He would still have to put another 3k towards the SUV. Acadia is a good car and it’s perfectly fine for four kids. One of the most important wealth building strategies is to not pour money into vehicles. So many people make this mistake. It’s particularly common in the middle class because people who have almost no money can’t realistically consider buying a vehicle they don’t need. But people in the middle class really cannot afford to upgrade to expensive cars that they don’t need. That’s a purchase that only very wealthy people can actually afford.

Just curious because this is my reality… I have a 2015 traverse with 140k on it. The timing chain area is leaking oil so the dealer recommends replacing it before it fails and causes the engine to blow. The engine is 6k plus labor and taxes. The timing chain is 3,400 with labor and taxes. I’m the second owner I bought it with 13k on it so the miles are mine and the vehicle has been routine maintained. It’s in great condition inside and out. It’s currently in the shop getting fluids flushed and a new power steering part since the fluid drained all over my driveway. So would it be worth it to invest a devaluing 10 thousand into the vehicle or buy a new one? I’d like to keep it as long as possible but I don’t want a money pit either. I did replace the transmission for 3k 3 years ago.

So I’m 17 years old (junior in highschool) and I want to know how to deal with/handle my money for right now and for the future. I’m just now starting to watch this account and don’t fully understand all of the things they are talking about 100% of the time. Can anyone dumb down what investing really does for me? Also, can anyone let me know how to invest and what I should invest it. (Thank you for taking your time and reading this and please be patient with me as I know nothing on this topic.)

This is very long be warned I’m not an expert but any means so take this with a grain of salt. Investing allows you to build money on money. Your money grows with time however there are risks. It’s good to invest so that way when you retire you have money to live on. Sometimes social security is not enough. Now as far as how to invest that’s up to you. Dave has his plan I say talk to a company like fidelity and speak to a representative they can explain investing to you and work with you on a plan that meets your goals. First though like Dave says and I agree get that 1000 emergency fund 2. Pay off any debt you have unless it’s a mortgage (hope not since you’re so young assuming no mortgage for same reason) 3. Build a 3 - 6 month emergency fund (important expenses like rent electricity etc things you need not necessarily want) 4. Now you can invest if your job has a match then invest up to the match and if you have anything left to invest open a Roth IRA Now some people will say invest while in debt again totally up to you but if you do invest while in debt budget carefully for what you are investing versus what you are throwing at debt don’t just invest a bunch and hardly make a dent in your debt it’ll set you back more Also investing is important but so is saving I recommend a high yields savings account Good luck

The best place to start is with Ramsey’s Financial Peace University to understand the basics. Great job getting started young!

Good thinking. Try saving 25% of income and when you have $1000 call an investment firm, like vanguard or fidelity. They help for free.

Living above your means will always keep you down. You have to delay gratification for a long time and invest in your future. Best thing I ever did was invest in rental properties. Takes a lot of hard work and saving but it can be done.

So, according to Ramsey, one is "childish" for borrowing money. Silly comment . . .
@amireallythatgrumpy65089 ай бұрын
Yes. Unless you're taking a mortgage, there is no excuse for borrowing money. It's a sign of being disorganised and a failure to prepare.
