I'll say this as a huge fan of NYPD Blue. Smits, Schroder, and Gosselaar never stole a scene from Dennis Franz. Franz dominated the scenes they had together. However, Caruso had the edge most of the scenes he was in with Franz. Not taking anything away from Franz. Caruso was just that good in his role as John Kelly.

@petercontarino646 You're the dork here. Calling my David Caruso a dork. He was fired from NYPD Blue. Detective John Kelly David's NYPD Blue character was transferred to another police precinct and demoted. I remember David's final episode on NYPD Blue. He wasn't happy with how badly he was treated on set. Nick Turturro is the nut. His character James Martinez followed the senior detectives around like a lovesick puppy dog. Turturro has no idea what David was going through after he was fired and let go from NYPD Blue. After the NYPD Blue firing David continued to parts in movies. Then CSI: Miami came along and made David a lead character once again. Lieutenant Horatio Caine was David's last shot acting. After 10 seasons CSI:Miami ended it's season run and David just decided just retire from acting meaning David has officially retired from acting and he continues to be the father Greta, Marquez and Paloma need in their lives. I know all this because I have been keeping updates on David's life in retirement.

@@gracepeynado6607 I agree: looking back, David Caruso just wanted another crack at being a movie star, which is what he spent the bulk of his career (roles in "First Blood", "An Officer and a Gentleman") trying to be. It looks to me like he used "NYPD Blue" as a springboard to that, but it didn't work out. Back in those days (up until the mid-2000's really), television work was seen as inferior to films. I mean, he wasn't some newcomer that got ahead of himself, he just miscalculated the backlash from leaving Blue. I commend him for going for the gusto instead of being complacent and settling.

Milch and Caruso tangled a lot (we don't have to get into Milch's very public demons right here), but Milch admitted that it was Caruso's dogged determination to make every scene count that put NYPD Blue over the top. Network TV is mostly about time, getting the shots done, and getting it in the can. Caruso wanted it to be about making the work count. So, a lot of conflicts.
@mickeye64285 жыл бұрын
@@darinsingleton3553 Caruso dragged that series down. It was much better after he left. NYPD was about the writing, not the overpaid egomaniac that thought he was the star of the show. That's why after he leaves the show gets better and he never did anything worth while again.
