After Parish was traded to the Bulls, he took Jordan down a notch or two. In an interview with Cedric Maxwell, Cedric asked Parish who was the better team leader, Jordan or Bird? Thats when Parish told the following story. During practice the teams split up to scrimmage. Both Parish and Jordan were on team A, and they won while scrimmaging. Coach had Parish move to team B to even things out some. After that, team B was winning. Back in the locker room, Parish playfully said "Hey Mike, how'd you like that ass-whoppin", in front of the whole team. Well, no one had talked to Mike like that, especially a team-mate. He got pissed and started talking shit to Parish, said he'd give Robert a real ass whopping. Robert squared up on Mike (he's 7 inches taller than Mike) and told him "You forget who I've played with, Bill Walton, Ainge, McHale, Dennis Johnson, and Bird. I've played with some real legends, and you don't intimidate me at all". Then he just went about his business. Parish said that was Mike's problem, he couldn't take what he dished out. Bird, on the other hand, never treated ANY PLAYER as leas than, and was a far better leader.

Jorden said he actually watched Bird when he first came up. He learned to be the talker he was and borrowed a lot of Bird’s Trash talking techniques after Bird retired.

Love watching old Larry Bird highlights. For the record, Bird was known as Basketball Jesus and Jordan was known as Black Jesus. Loved watching them both when I was a youngster. I have to put Jordan ahead of Bird, but if I'm if starting a team and both were 20 I'd have to take Bird bc he's just much more of a team player and gets his teammates involved. That was very evident in his rookie year.

Here’s the weird backstory about McHale getting 56 points. When Bird first got recruited out of high school it was to go to IU with Bobby Knight coaching. It was tough for LB to fit in… it was a bit too big for him… and there was an upperclassman who bullied him relentlessly. His name was Kent Benson. Larry Bird hitchhikes back to French Lick, a year later he’s at ISU, etc. etc. Skip forward. Guess who is playing power forward for the Detroit Pistons? Yup. Kent Benson. Guess who Kent Benson had to guard? Yup. Kevin McHale. Bird and crew feed McHale ALL.NIGHT.LONG… just TORTURING Benson. That was Bird. HE made that happen… on PURPOSE… to get revenge. Bird was a baaaaaad man.

People call what Bird did trash talking. What Bird did was challenge them to stop him, even when he told them what was going to happen before he did it and the vast majority of the time they couldn't Bird did it constantly and sometimes at the biggest points of the game. No other player in NBA has done that as much as Brid did. My favorite is when Byron Scott tells the story of what Bird did to the Lakers. Bird actually told them what the play was, where he was going to get the ball and the shot he would make, and then did it. The Lakers in the game when Bird did this were Kareem Abdul Jabbar Magic Johnson James Worthy Michael Cooper Byron Scott Then there is the left handed game - Bird scored 47 points but only 22 with his left hand. Name another player who told the opposing team they were going to shoot most of the game with their off-hand. These are the types of stories, as well as his statistics, that put Bird in the conversation for GOAT.

Rodman dealt the disrespect first though! He deserved what he got for that comment. Also, my favorite trash talk by Bird was against Craig Ehlo. Bird was having an off night and Ehlo was guarding him so at halftime, Ehlo took his moment to puff up on Bird. He told him that Bird was one for ten - that's defense! Larry just reminded him that there's two halves. Bird came out of the half and hit ten in a row on Ehlo - the last one was with his left hand at which point he turned to Ehlo and asked him if his mother was watching! That is one of the coldest and most hilarious/humiliating things I have ever heard! 🤣🤣🤣 The video of Ehlo telling the story: kzbin.info6w_aSgJG81g

Yo Juice! Thanks for not yapping all the way through this video. You actually LISTENED! And me being a Boston boy who had floor season tickets to all Bird's home games, remind me sometime to tell you some of the nasty trash that the Legend gave to some of the real big-mouths in the league when they came to our house at the Garden. (If you want to hear them). Like when Charles Barkley was at the free throw line one game, and Bird started trashing him before Charles even made his first attempt. Larry yelled to Charles "Yo Barkley, they said you are called the Round Mound Of Rebound! You look more like the Humpty Dumpty Who Just Ate 50 Meatballs to me!" Both teams on both the lines started cracking up laughing. I though Danny Ainge was gonna pee his pants laughing! Actually, I though me and my brother-In Law were gonna too! That was hysterical. Not too certain Barkley thought is was that funny...Lol. Let me know if you ever want some more of Bird's funny stuff. I used to write most of them down after the games. Great job Juice, thanks man!

Michael Jordan took a lot from Bird and Magics game but with Bird he even took his mentality. That's no slight on MJ, you have to be able to actually do it still and that's why MJ is considered the GOAT. I say they are both the GOATS.
