A series of questionable NHL calls left many in the league frustrated, we'll talk that and more as we examine the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Anaheim Ducks game, and the New York Rangers vs the Winnipeg Jets. All that and more on today's NHL hockey video!

Go to the end of the Rangers/Canucks game, where Petterson was tripped, resulting in the Rangers scoring on a 3-on-1 in OT. This after Vancouver endured two five-on-three power plays. It's almost like the NHL refs are trying to one-up the shitshow that has been the NFL officiating....

This season? I've only paid real attention to regular season hockey for about two years now, and just about every team has had at least one incident that was close to this blatant. It'd be a stretch to say that every team has lost a game to the refs, because it's usually just pouring onto a game that's already getting away anyway, but in an era of increasingly bad reffing across all major North American sports, the NHL somehow manages to have the worst out of all of them.

I hate to suggest it but perhaps more things need to be reviewable or maybe the situation room needs to automatically review everything and over rule terrible on ice calls? Everyone admits that the game is too fast for officials but the NHL isn’t doing anything to change. We HAVE TECHNOLOGY people, let’s use it to increase fairness.

I don't like where the NHL is going with ANY calls so far this season. They're bastardizing almost anything with any degree of judgement to it. Hooking, slashing, roughing...they're going way too hard and we need to make a bigger stink out of it. I've been annoyed by calls for and against the Wings multiple times this year. We've had multiple PENALTY SHOTS that neither team deserved.

As a hockey fan, the league has to do something about the officiating, stop protecting them like babies, and make them accountable, either make them face the media, or have the league review the officials if teams complains about a certain official enough. This type of officiating can push some long time fans away.

Accountability and reason articulation is key. The NHL 'protecting' the refs as an excuse as to why this isn't happening, is counterproductive to their stated goal. Tell us what the ref is thinking! It will both help refs ability to defend themselves making the right call, and put the spotlight on mistakes so they can be fixed in the future. Right now, refs keep making mistakes that both the league and officials never have to admit are mistakes, so mistakes proliferate. I don't blame the fans that clump the right calls with the mistakes, because both are treated the same by the NHL itself.

It's the age old discussion of whether the goalie crease is exclusive to the goaltender. What does the blue ice mean? the rule states any contact prior to the shot in the blue ice will be assessed as interference. Then what about a player who is obstructing the goalie's access to the top of the crease? Is that interference? Is the blue ice not the goalie's priority? It's difficult to figure out the nuances of that " special " patch of ice sometimes.

Hands up on the ducks disallowed goal. The puck has to be in the crease first, prior to an attacking player can enter. No part of the attacking players body or a stick or skate, can enter the crease first, otherwise they’re whistled for an infraction. So, it’s the right call. With that being said, there have been some frustrating penalties called so far this season.

Ive watched that replay a few times and it really isnt a trip, two legs colliding because of the wide stances. Kreider wasnt even really facing Petterson when the collision happened. He was turning away and because petterson had a wide stance his left leg clipped Kreiders leg and he fell over. It was definitely nowhere near being a blatant ass trip. Not to mention there was an actual trip in the neutral zone not too long before that play that didnt get called on the canucks.

At the rangers game, think about it from the refs position. You don’t have slomo, you are looking at it up and from the side. His stick goes in, at stick level, and the guy falls. That’s a hard call to make.

I get there was no contact. But, what does the blue paint even mean anymore? I remember in the late 90's when the blue paint was the call. If you are in there when a goal goes in, contact or not, it's a no-goal. Ask Tomas Holmstrom.....at least it was a more black and white call in that sense.

You know what’s crazy is that they called GI on the ducks for nothing but didn’t call it the other night when the wings goalie was literally pushed into the net

As a Jets fan I can totally say that the call on Lindgren was bs. I also feel for Cronin as well.

Thankfully, the phantom trip call on Lindgren wasn't a factor, and Mika buried Panarin's laserlike pass to complete the phenomenal 5-0 road trip.

It's crazy how consistently awful the reffing has been this season. Across the whole league. Also ton of very soft/ghost calls. Hope they figure it out.

I figure the phantom call on Lindgren was just karma for the no call on Kreider last game. Now all is right in the world and everything is in balance in the universe.

You have never played hockey before. That Ducks player went into the crease and pushed the dman into the goalie. That is goaltender interference. He wasn't pushed into the crease. He went in himself. Thank you for showing that any goof with internet connection and a youtube account can start a channel and no absolutely nothing about what you're talking about.

Ducks call is fine. You can't be standing in the middle of the crease. That definitely impedes the goalie's ability to setup for the shot. Second call was a bad one but can see how it happened. Ref saw the defenseman reach, got obscured by the net, then saw the player with the puck fall. Happens.

The goalie couldn't move out to challenge the puck. That is interference. See how his leg (0.55 ) tries to kick off and can't because Ek65 is in the way? This is an easy call.

the problem is, nobody can or will hold the officials accountable - like literally at all. there is no reprecussions to being a terrible official and making terrible calls or missing terrible calls. i get it, it isn't an easy job and they can't possibly be perfect (which is why theres so many now-a-days) but some times its difficult to not cry bias based on how egregious some of these things are if nobody can keep the officials in line then it becomes a joke of a sport. and it pretty much is. every single season you have no idea how the officials are going to call, and every single game or batch of officials is different as well. then you get to playoff hockey where rules are much more loose. you simple have no idea what the rules are at any given time.

Goal interference doesn't just mean the goalie had to be hit on the play. The ducks player was half way in the crease and was blocking the pens goalie from getting square to the shooter. This was about as obvious as a case of goalie interference as there can be. I'm honestly more surprised there was not a single person on the ducks bench who told the coach not to challenge. There is no way that was gonna be overturned

I'm a huge pens fan and saw absolutely nothing there. Pittsburgh started out like they deserved to win but as soon as they had the 5 on 3 and neither Malkin or Karlsson wanted to shoot, I knew they were gonna lose. I hope to god that passing back and fourth like 8 times haunts them. They need to smarten up. God this is such a pitiful start to the season...
