I thought it was kind of fun, even though it was hugely incompetently assembled. Not having the space gremlin eat the android was a bizarre missed opportunity though. 13 fangirling over a soldier came off as quite weird given how anti-violence she'd been in the episode prior. Graham and Ryan are, as always, the best things in it. Next time, an excellent pure historical about the partition of India and an interesting sci fi story about time travelling alien funeral directors are forced to share the same fifty minutes, to both the detriment of both, but not to the extent that it's terrible.

JackIntheBox I thought the aliens complimented the human story well but again clunky exposition esp from Ryan and I really don’t think this episode belongs in the same series as Rosa - it’s too similar in tone and ideas (it’s just odd to me that a showrunner would ever consider these episodes coexisting in this series, no doubt the episodes have been reshuffled as we ended up with so much chibnall in first half)

@@TheJaviferrol Maybe, but I think the point still stands. All they decided was to do with Sylvester's Doctor was make him funnier and warmer to counter the percieved harshness of the previous Doctor. Beep the Meep knew how to work his cuteness. No one within the episode seemed to notice the P'Ting was cute, which rendered the subverted expectations element a bit pointless. The whole point with Beep the Meep is Sharon and her friends, and even the Doctor, assumed that Beep was in need of protection and the ugly creatures trying to track it down must be the bad guys. I get ya. I liked the campness of arachnids but wish they’d taken it further so it was just a distinct campy giant spider episode where you don’t need an explanation and can focus on yaz and family reacting to it. Tsuranga I enjoyed at the time because of P’Ting and I’d settled into Chibs’ exposition to the point where it felt like Chibnalism bingo. My least favourite is probs ep 2 cuz it just wanders round without putting the characters thru the labours that it really promised to whilst pausing for backstories.

I think Arachnids worked because it knew it was a stupid b-movie with rubbish science and cheesy monsters, therefore you could embrace the rubbish elements of it and just go along with how silly it wa, sorta like Horns of Nimon or Voyage of the Damned. Without a doubt the weakest episode of the series. Not completely awful (the first ten minutes are great) but it's so derivative and bland. It looks nice and isn't franchise destroyingly terrible but compared to the next two episodes it is without a doubt the worst we have gotten this series. Still, if this is the worst we're getting then this season is in good hands as I wouldn't put this anywhere near my worst new series stories list.

I think Chibnall’s era will be more middle-of-the-road than the last two. It won’t have the same highs like Blink or Heaven Sent, but also won’t have the same lows like Love and Monsters or Hell Bent.

I'd say Demons of the Punjab and also Rosa both qualify as highs but I agree I think it will have less lows. Super Skully as some who actually likes Hell Bent, I generally agree. I’ve always been a bigger fan of Chibnall’s stuff than most. With rare exception I think his DW work is always at LEAST an interesting and enjoyable episode of television. That said, he’s never written a Heaven Sent or a Midnight, and I really don’t know if he has one of those in him. Still, I’m appreciating his approach to the broad strokes of the show so much (bigger character focus, no forced mystery box arc, etc) that that might counterbalance his own individual episodes being more “middle of the road” and less “peaks and valleys”. RTD and Moffat wrote some tea masterworks in their time, but I find their general approach to running the series was less to my tastes than Chibnall’s.

The show suffers the same issue it will always suffer as long as each story is only one episode long and that is too much exposition to cram into too small a time frame, if the show was the same as the old days they would have time to introduce the guest characters develop them so you can care about them, execute the story plot and then ofcourse wrap each thread up etc but with a single episode they've got to race through the whole thing with the Doctor talking at a million miles an hour just dumping exposition all over the place so they can get it wrapping up by the last ten minutes and it's never going to work.

For an ensemble this big I didn’t feel like I lost track of anyone, I found all the characters endearing, and the stuff with Ryan and fatherhood was great. Eve and Darkus have a great sibling dynamic, and I felt this episode was a *great* showcase for Chibnall and Jodie’s combined grasp of the Doctor’s character. The scenes where she’s talking to Mabli about hope and imagination, and the one where she almost loses it talking about the anti-matter engine, that was some great stuff. Really the weakest part was the guy playing Astos, who just gave a straight up bad performance.

I actually liked the lead doctor guy. He's the first person this series to get the Doctor to back down from something when she's being overly reckless. In doing so, he not only shows some of his own strengths in diplomacy and reading people - especially overbearing individuals like the Doctor - but he also highlights some of the Doctor's faults by getting her to acknowledge them and therefore making her more of a developed character. The two worked off each other very well in my opinion. So when he's axed off after 15 minutes, I didn't feel sad but disappointed in that the script just dispenses with that dynamic from that point on. Just add him to the rest of the potential squandered this series. I think he'd have made a far more interesting companion than Yaz is.

This was basically attack of the cliche storm. (although personally I disliked Arachnids in the UK more) On the plus side the next episode is okay (could have been a Vincent and the Doctor level tearjerker, but was let down by a predicatable plot and some appaling acting from the supporting cast) and the latest epsiode is actually pretty decent. One of the characters reminds me of a friend of mine. I've had some truly fascinating Doctor who related dreams lately, one of which I'm seriously considering writing down as fanfic. It reminds me of a suggestion I made a couple of year back that Moffat should have been made to eat only blue cheese for a year, in the hopes he'd come up with some more imaginative ideas; they should do that to Chibnall. If it doesn't work, at least we could have a spin-off fly on the wall documentary called "Chibnall can't pooh". Of course if they *had* tried doing that to Moffat, he'd probably just have delegated the task to Benadict Cumberbatch, and then the spin off would be called "No Shit Sherlock"

I found this episode rather bland and underwhelming, but not that bad. Everything feels all too familiar and unoriginal, but I find it watchable.

Am I the only one who really liked this episode? The low point for me this season was Arachnids in the UK

I'd rather watch Space Pirates than Tsuranga Conundrum.

This was one of the many meh 5/10 episodes, with so far before it only Rosa and maybe the first episode standing out but the next two are stand out episodes so it is actually not that bad a series.

I considered stopping watching at this episode. I think that after episode 4 the other episodes are mainly shit. Kerblam is ok.

Yeah. This was the episode where I shrugged my shoulders and went off to find something more interesting to do. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Jodie Whittaker's incarnation of The Doctor (or the companions for that matter), I'm just not enjoying the scripts. Yes, the Rosa Parks one was great - but for me, so far, the majority of the series has been dull and a bit on the preachy side. And this is from someone who is definitely left-wing when it comes to politics. I'm sure I'll come back to the show later on and watch the episodes that I've missed, but at the moment I'm not enjoying it.

I found this to be the worst episode of Doctor Who I’ve seen in five years. It feels like a bad fanfilm. It literally doesn’t feel a professional writer wrote the script, a professional set of actors were involved in all the roles, or like anything happening was actually real. I’ve never seen an episode of Doctor Who before where it felt like I could see the seams showing. I mean, fuck, at least when Moffat had a terrible idea, he knew how to polish the script and made it feel like a professional writer made active decisions. This was... obviously where Chibnall put the least amount of attention. The dude was writing like seven other scripts and this one obviously got the short shrift. You don’t have to like Hell Bent, but by god at least that episode was an hour of actual television. People’s tax-money went into the Tsuranga Conundrum? I don’t even live in the U.K. and I feel bad. This script wasn’t even fucking finished.

You know how Doctor Who episodes are supposed to be entertaining. Oh look, a boring dull episode. It's opposite day!

Just watched it, I got so bored it kinda hurt. That Doctor guy in the beginning was distractingly a bad actor.

My legitimate reactions to each series 11 episode: S11E01: Mehhhhhh, the big reveal is teeth in his face? Really? Okay fine I'll go with it. What's next? S11E02: Actually fell asleep, boring and predictable as all hell. Total party kill glossed over like it didn't happen. S11E03: Historically inaccurate and dangerously misrepresentative of Rosa Parks. Episode was otherwise meh. S11E04: Series low; Trump analog depressingly toothless. This should have been Peter Capaldi and The Sex Pistols. S11E05: Why does this Doctor keep killing all her companions? Why doesn't that alien leave turds everywhere? S11E06: Another snoozefest which takes 2010's lame political ideology and places it where everyone should point and laugh. S11E07: I was actually clawing at my own eyes to spare me any more Kerblam! No hyperbole... this is the worst Who ep ever.

Really disliked this story. The Pting was ridiculous and held no threat and it was full of tiresome exposition scenes and little tension and the villain and tone felt jarring and inappropriate for the story. I made a review on my channel if anyone wants to check it out.

Seven million people liked it so it must have been good. Chibnall's better at doing light-hearted episodes than Moffat ever was. Just check out 'The Return Of Doctor Mysterio' for proof. I'm wondering why people waste their time watching a show they so obviously hate. Find something to review ffs.

lols Just because around five million watched it doesn't mean they liked it. People have different opinions to you, love, esp when you're talking about a show that used to be good. If you don't like other people's opinions stop listening to them ffs. That's if you're even a real person and not just a BBC bot.
