The second part of our Frizebad Barbershop experience including a head massage and hair styling! Frizebad barbershop is situated just around the corner from Pasajul Victoria and the Old Town of Bucharest. The barbershop relocated to this current address after the Bucharest earthquake of 1977.
The interior is a perfect time warp reflecting the Romanian tastes from when it was last renovated in 1981. Surprisingly, original 1930’s barber chairs from Chicago remain. I guess even the might of communist dictators stop when it comes to barber chairs!

Very professional barber. Reminds me of the shops of the 60s here in the US. I'm 62 and remember getting a scalp massage as a youngster. My Dad would take my Brother and I for cuts. Seemed like about two times a month. Would take about two hours for all three of us. I didn't like the length of time. But loved getting a grape sucker at the end. I think it was about $1 per person and we gave a quarter tip. Your videos make me recall the sounds and smells of the shops back then. Kind of miss that time.

At my barber shop I always give a scalp manipulation or sometimes I use that hand vibrator on the shoulders over the cape and on the head. i swear some guys think I'm trying something funny with them and they get homophobic! I tell them barbers use to do that back in the day. So next time some of them come in asking for it, or if I forgot to do it they are like hey aren't you gonna do that thing again with that machine!

Amazing Harry, you stumbled across one of the old style barbershops in Bucharest. Unfortunately there are not so many left. We've been overrun by western style barbershops recently and these old businesses are fading away. The decor is the same as during the communist regime era. Well well, places like this are just a few left in town and I will definitely pay a visit to this shop when I get back. Why this kind of shop is very rare? The building where the shop is located belongs to the city hall housing department and almost all businesses at the ground level, on that particular street corner, are still state owned companies, this is why the interior looks from another era. There is also state owned candy shop and a book store. Well done Harry, thanks a lot for bringing me back memories from my old neighborhood, used to live a couple of hundreds meters away from this place.

Fun story: this barbershop is actually one of the oldest ones in Bucharest, it's right near Calea Victoriei which was the hot spot for randez-vous during the last century. You can even see on the wall some posters with old hairstyles that were fashionable in the 70's and the alltogether comunist vibe :))
