The "Big Picture" history is never as interesting as a good close-up look at the pixels that make the big picture. The ingenuity of the sailors to accomplish their missions, exploit an opportunity, and/or just survive against very bad odds are legendary. There is a TV series called "The Silent Service" which goes into a part of the history of various submarines and their superlative crews. WoWS won't run out of material for these kinds of videos anytime soon.

The big lesson here is don't disperse the convoy. The other ships, that didn't group like this one, were devastated 1/3 surviving.

the big lesson is better intelligence. the scattering was a good idea if you had the Tirpitz. why lose several of your best ships and a whole convoy when you can just lose most of the convoy?
