Excellent step-by-step, easy-to-follow method using a simple proportions diagram. The result is great but not detailed, so it could become a base for many projects. Well worth the small time investment.

I've never done anything with 3D (or any graphical technology outside of very minor Photoshop dabbling) until about one month ago. Out of nowhere, at almost 40, I'm suddenly addicted to learning Blender and devouring as much knowledge as I can from as many sources as I can find. Which takes us to the present, where I'm following along with this tutorial on my brand new XP-Pen Deco Pro and sipping coffee well past midnight, having so much fun I had to stop the learning and share. Thanks Grant. I'm a recent subscriber and already a big fan of your content.

Don't know if you have tried this, but, in sculpt mode, you can turn on Dyntopo, set it where you want (or use the eyedropper to somewhat match a region), then "paint" the newly-chosen density on selected portions of the mesh using the Simplify brush. It's excellent for adding detail only where you want it (like the face can be higher res than the body of a figure, and the eye area can be higher yet). The simplify brush changes the shape of the mesh very little, so you can do this on a work in-progress. It tends to create artifacts when the transition is too severe, but you can paint in some transitional densities. Try it, it's worth it, and you're welcome to share this tip in a video if you care to.

I finally discovered why my heads sculpts always looked so asian, 14:48 if you make the front of the eyes go past that line it starts looking asian, with this tutorial I noticed on my old sculpts the eyes were WAY past that line, something I never realised even while following other tutorials, and as I am a begginer it really blocked my learning of how to sculpt eyes, specially the upper and bottom eyelits, I can't thank you enough!!

Don't know if you're really monitoring this comment section or anything, but for something like the example at around 10:45 it may be better to not use the only person of color thus far in conjunction with "how much neanderthal DNA" your character has.
@grabbitt2 жыл бұрын
I don't think its problematic, for 2 reasons. The first being there there is not a problem with someone having more Neanderthal DNA and secondly I don't think people of colour have more or less of that DNA strand but I could be wrong. Hopefully people can see the merits of the tutorial without worrying about these issues. But thanks for bringing it to my attention.
@virgilhawkins33902 жыл бұрын
@@grabbitt I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply. I certainly see the merit of the tutorial regardless of the verbiage. Not necessarily saying it or you are problematic, it's just something I will admit I do listen for. Nearly all tutorials I come across are structured around modeling European/Caucasian/White characters and characteristics. So as I follow along I have an extra step where I adapt and translate techniques to try to associate what I might see in the mirror as a "baseline" instead of a twist or derivation. So when I see a person of color represented, I pay more attention. I look for how professionals and those I look to for guidance are building frames of reference around an appearance like mine. When the pool of examples to draw from is so shallow, each individual bit of representation is thrown into much more stark contrast. I'm not looking for censorship or editing or anything, just trying to provide some perspective from another angle without getting too far into the specifics.
