Its interesting you said the Revv was brighter when clearly it sounds way darker just has much more mids where the 5150 was scooped sounding but with tons of high frequency content. Both sound great though, just interesting the difference in ears and hearing the mic vs next to the amp (off axis to the cones).

What I love about the revv is even at high gain with no boost, the revv is so clear where the EVH seems fizzy kinda, with a sizzle kinda. But the revv is just clear as can be. I have a 1st gen revv generator, and it’s the same with my amp. The distortion is so clear, and the guitar is so articulate. The EVH sounds great, but the revv tone is just perfect
@at55043 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have a G3 pedal and have the new Generator 120 MKIII on the way. I owned an original Peavey 5150 for a long time, and it was an awesome amp, but it was just a one trick pony with one sound. It had a lot of buzzy/fizzy high end that just sounds too mushy without a graphic EQ in the loop. I preferred playing the G3 through a clean amp because of the attack and clarity and fuller sound. Granted, the Stealth sounds great, and is likely better than the original with a usable clean channel, but still not the super versatile IMO. The new Generator 120 MKII + my FM3 in four cable method will hopefully the perfect solution to cover every amp and genre of guitar music + having the unique ultra-clear Revv sound!

@BR-kj3fp28 күн бұрын
I MUCH prefer the 50W. I’ve owned both thinking “I love the 50w, the 100w must be even better” and was sorely disappointed. 50S is much easier to dial in cleans, more forgiving on dials, the 100S isn’t the easiest to get good sounds from, the crunch channel isn’t nearly as good, and the ch2 knobs can affect the tone when you’re in ch3…. Horrible! I want completely independent channels. The 50S has such useable channels and multiple tones per channel without sounding “too much” or thin.

@@thegodslayer8545Disagree 100%, it’s doesn’t “smoke” any past 5150 and not worth the extra cash. You have to tiptoe the gain to get a good clean on it compared to the 50S. sounded way more fizzy and brittle. The Revv was bassy and full bodied. It's really more to do with the wattage. It's an unfair comparison really to compare a 50w head to a 120w head, the head room changes the tonality entirely. If he put a 120w EVH against it, it would sound a lot more similar in characteristics.

Some models have had issue more than others of course. The fact that most people don't crank amps like they used to probably helps them survive but I would be worried about touring with them. Peavey for example was also a mass market company but their build quality or at least the reliability of many of their popular amps was pretty darn great. I've had 5150 ,JSX and other peavey amps that didn't miss a beat for 15 to 20 years or more. Then of course I got new caps in them or minor work.
