Head to head - V plow Vs Scoop plow

Head to head challenge- V plow Vs a containment plow. We remove the Snowdogg & install a new Hiniker scoop plow, find & fix a bad connection, then race head to head.

I have had my Hincker V plow for 6 years. Same cutting edge. I have cut through 4' drifts on Lake of the woods getting to my fish house. When the resort abandons the road, and you have to cut through a old drifted in area for a couple of hundred yards, the Hincker V plow is the best solution.

The scoop plows are great but where the vplows shine is being able to V it through drifts or being able to break through into driveways easier in deep snow. We are in a more hilly terrain where we plow so the MVP3 westerns earned our love. A simpler controller would be nice though i 100% agree

Rough week. Finally got snow in Detroit blew a line the first day and snapped my frame going over a railroad track today. Used plow trucks are a blast. Just lost 6 apartments. At least your videos I can see money can be made. So new line lots of welding and it is running again. Keep the videos coming it is what keeps me going

One of the reasons I like to do my own plow installs and wiring is to avoid the problem you had and if I have an issue it makes it so much easier to troubleshoot.

Love that new plow! I'm a BOSS guy running straight & V blades. You got me excited about that Hiniker. Just to note-have run wings on my BOSS plows straight or V & it is definitely worth the price!! I've run a bunch of plows on a bunch of vehicles, and one advantage a V has over everything else is being able to V to make your 1st cut. When you get 2 feet plus (I've done 3' twice), the first pass is vital. Also very useful for the windrow left by the city plow.

Hey dude.i have a fisher that’s been maintained nicely.when I’m dismounting I cannot push the lift arm plate down to do so.i have to use a sledge hammer to get it down.i am in float.it just won’t go down.would appreciate any suggestions.thanks

I have one myself; when I disconnect from the plow, the headgear falls forward, then nothing lines up when trying to re-connect. I've got to stop in the dealership and ask, but I just keep forgetting. I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing. Fisher EZ V.

Bought a Western Wideout 14 months ago. Finally got to use it last month. I will NEVER go back to a straight plow again. I absolutely love it. It took me a couple of hours to get used to the handheld remote. I am sold on expanding plows. Best thing is when I’m in scoop mode I can still angle the plow left or right. Try that with a V plow. Until last month I had been plowing with a Curtis since 2000. I loved the way they hooked up to the truck. Super fast. I’m not as big of a fan of the Western system of hooking up to the truck. I use a pallet jack to move the plow around the shop. It’s a little more tricky with a Western.

Definitely a fan of the Fisher plows here in Syracuse. Have used both V and wide out style plows. I like the V in open lots I like the wideout style for between cars.

That is a nice plow. I push a western wide out for 10 years and love it. I can actually push more snow then a skid with a plow. The wide out gives you the option of flat, scoop. It has been a good plow for 10 years.

I’ve been running a Hiniker c-plow here in Connecticut for the last 15 years on my 99 f350. Bought the plow brand new and everyone broke my chops for not buying a fisher or boss or western. Nobody knew a thing about Hiniker around me until I purchased mine. Like I said I’m going on 15 years with this plow and I’ve replaced the blades once and still haven’t replaced any hydro hoses. Only upgrade I did was upgrade to the new lights. So I’m a huge huge Hiniker fan huge. I honestly believe the Hiniker is the most underrated plow on the market. Since I purchased mine 15 years ago slowly they started popping up by word of mouth. So I’m excited to see you went Hiniker and spoke the truth about them I know everyone has their own opinions and some guys like western or boss or whatever but I believe if they ran a Hiniker for one storm they’d never go back.

I always enjoy watching your videos. In my opinion the V and Scoop plow do a very good job of scraping done to the asphalt and they look like they both carry about the same amount of snow its so close. I think i like the V plow a bit better for back dragging up against the curb/sidewalk because you can straighten it and get closer.

The V plow is the best plow for doing city sidewalks and park trails especially when the snow is deep because it pushes snow left and right. A single straight blade plow bogs down by only plowing snow to one side.and making a huge pile on that side.

Great Video,,,, Would also have loved to see some footage of the truck at the shop trying to diagnose the stalling etc. Any videos showing how to help diagnose problems, locating & fixing bad grounds etc. are always so helpful. Wideout gets smoked next to wester 9.6 contractors V plow. We did the test 2", 6" and 12" snow falls. 2" was even, then large snow falls. 6 and 12 wideout got stuck on heavy wet snow.

Have you ever considered an adjustable width plow? I know there's a few companies who make them where each side about a 2 foot wing on each is hydraulically controlled where they can extend about a foot to a foot and a half wider on each side so a 8 foot plow can be turned into a 10 foot plow with a push it s button. So besides having that much wider of a plow when on the job site when going down the road you still have the typical normal width plow.

The only problem I've seen with the scoop plow is in super deep snow. I've got a 1/4 mile long driveway. When the drifting gets to be 2-3 ft deep you need the V plow to make a path up the middle in V mode first. If you do it with a scoop or straight blade you either can't get through or it pushes you off the side of the driveway. So there are definitely better plows for different applications

Awesome video guys👍 I was picking a new snow plow this year. It was between the Hiniker scoop and the Boss EXT I went with the EXT because it is expandable to 10 ft. Still a simple design. Lots of guys like the western wideout but it looks like to much work to repair. God bless👍👍

Nice looking plow. Around me it seems that everyone and their mother runs boss. It could be that they are made right here in the upper peninsula of Michigan. They are made about 2 hours from me and I have been by where they make them lots of times. Myself I still prefer the old chain to raise them and the old cable to control them. Might be dad had a western he had for 20 years and never replaced a cable or had the pump opened up. He beat the hell out of it also.

I had a western that lasted 11 years and a Hiniker that lasted that long- then rotted off the truck but the frame was good so I bought a plow off craiglsist (scoop) and ran that for another 4 years with no issues. Same wiring same frame. so that lasted 15-16years?

My Chevy truck was a terror- I went through 4 engines and 7 transmissions and 3 differentials before I threw in the towel. I would get one thing fixed and then something else would go wrong. Just kept happening on that truck.

Also just a quick tip for you guys to keep an eye on that hiniker v plow I had one for 2 years 2018 it was brand new and had it in 2019, but after the first year plowing with it I started plowing my second year and made it till about January 2019 and then had some issues where that A frame of the plow connects to the actual blade it ended up breaking and the only thing holding the plow on was one bolt. Hiniker said it was a known issue with the v plow for 2018 not sure if they fixed it for 2019 or 2020 but just something to keep an eye on as it happened to me twice in the same year. Hard to explain but right up where the A frame connects to the blade there’s 3 bolts that go through the center pillar of the blade and that’s where it cracked. But love your videos and can’t wait until the next one!!

Good video Stan. I am still running old school meyer ez classic plows. have a 7.5' with wings and it does pretty good. It's a little over 9 foot mounted to a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 hemi, long bed crew cab. I also have a old school 95 Toyota 4runner with the Meyer 6 foot tube mount to get residential driveways and tight spots.

Have you had wiring issues with your Ram truck? I had a Dodge Charger start on fire. That was a weird fiasco!

@@Dirtmonkey ive had 2 friends trucks go up. They were all 2nd gens like 90s trucks. Since then i wont own any. One of my chevys lit up while my employee was driving it. Not sure if it was a problem with the radio i had just recently put in, or a factory problem. My all time favorite plow truck was a 2006 chevy duramax. With a 9' 6" boss v with a joystick controller. I miss that truck.

When I was laid off from electrical work in 2010 I plowed that winter. I ran a blizzard speed wing and I am with you Stan it was much easier to operate.

I noticed your snopower looks bent and banged. I bought a brand new one this season used it for some light storms. One day cleaning my own yard was backing up in scoop postion 2-3mph very slow and wing caught frozen snow and didnt release in the hydraulic cylinder. Twisted and bent like nothing. Sno power wont warranty the panel called it impact damage. Im not a happy customer paid 13k Canadian dollars to have it do that in the first 10 or less work days. @@Dirtmonkey I never even heard of them until i saw your reviews on them. Everything i love about them except for this hiccup. I believe they should have taken care of me as it was not an impact. The sales guys from the dealer in Michigan even went to bat for me. Gunna cost me 1k to get a new one home

I started with a Hiniker scoop. Loved it. Took a bad hit while it was angled going over a hidden utility lid that the black top eroded away from the edge. Trip edge couldnt fold properly... ripped the left cutting edge clean off. My teeth still hurt.

Yeah we have one of those larger Milwaukie impact's they are handy when we loose tires on our dump trucks mid job. No air no hoses we love it

Howdy stan I am in Iowa and we are 53 inchs into this winter and I am an avid western plow guy been using them for 14 years now and enjoy running them but thats all I know .... seen them hinikers at work and seem to get the job done also depends on the operator of the rig !! let it snow.
