There more going on than just wrapping header. Keeping the the heat in the pipes causes more flow . Savaging, hot to low pressure. That's is what H and X pipes do all so, the H /X pipe area,is low pressure, the combination exhaust is high pressure and this effect pumps the exhaust out. The 4 in 1 pipe also causes this effect vs stock manifold. If you ever noticed under front engine car, along the exhaust pipe ,there will be an area where the pipe is getting very hot ,compared to the rest. The reason is because of the distance to the Bach of the vehicle, the high/low pressure Equalized. It stop flowing. Just like the weather ,high/low pressure causes air flow. Now ,what's really cool,is having a big busty blond in the jump seat, gigaling with beat of the engine. And then her boobs rise up when you get on it. But be safe, that someone's daughter/wife/mother, bring them home safely. How to tell when you girlfriend is getting fat? She fits into you wife's clothes. Stay thrust my friends.

Isn't the main purpose of the silicone spray to keep the moisture out. Wrap can trap moisture and cause headers and exhaust manifolds to rust very rapidly.

@@cjponyparts That is not actually what he says. Rewatch the video. I know I don't "need" to spray the wrapped header. I've done it on my sportster. it will definitely help with the heat. before it was almost unbearable at the stoplight, now not so much. I think the difference in life expectancy for the wrap is heat exposure, a HD runs usually very rich what means the exhaust temp is lower and of course airflow will help too.

I don't understand why in any of these videos they tell people to cut the wrap after measuring out... lol never cut it take your time... tape the end that you're fishing through so it doesn't unravel especially on fiberglass stuff. This is a great thing to do to isolate heat Away from the oil filter & Starter. That these two things specifically are Very affected by heat. The electric wire on starter & solenoid especially Chevy starters & the associated solenoid get basically destroyed from constant excessive manifold Heat! Making battery appear weak or low do to heat makes wire very "resistive", thus requiring significantly More electric current draw from battery. And the oil inside the oil filter gets BOILED from the 400-450 degrees off the manifolds. Basically destroyed in a few hundred miles due to over heating . Then the cooling & needed lubrication oil is designed to do is lost. This is one reason Ford used engine oil coolers & Pontiac used power steering oil coolers and most MFG used radiator use for cooling trans oil, though a separate oil cooler is by far Better then radiator is. . Overheat oil in an engine turn into carbonizing material then eventually crystalized. Natural law of thermodynamics.. Go put a $20 dollar harbor-freight thermo gun on a Chevy oil filter and looks how hot it becomes during usage, before & after the wrap! Pontiac & Chevy Exh manifold heat kills these things and insulating heat away from these pieces is a MUST to make them last. For the little cost to do this you can save the money and other things the heat does cause. This should be way more popular on the older cars yet most guys over look this . Sorry for long post...
@tomcooper61082 жыл бұрын
The exhaust coming thru your headers moves much quicker the hotter it is. Wrap holds heat so the gases get out quicker.

Hey Bill. I can’t say anything negative about your involvement in this particular advertisement for DEI Thermal Wrap Products. You actually did a pretty good job of carrying Mike when it was obvious that he was struggling with the product or finding the right words to say. Maybe the recording process caused him to be a little nervous but confidence was definitely lacking during the segment. The benefits of reduced under hood temperatures are always a plus for a number of good reasons. But when it comes to any real world benefits that the average street/strip engine could possibly use as an advantage by maintaining the thermodynamic properties of hot expanding exhaust gases to prolong the velocity as a means of increased scavenging just doesn’t seem to be very practical considering the initial cost and tedious installation labor involved to make it look like a professional installation that will actually last the 3 or 4 years as suggested by Mike. Another minor point that could turn into a major hassle is that nearly all of the quality header manufacturers that provides a warranty with their products also makes it perfectly clear that using any type of thermal retention products on their headers will void the warranty. The reason probably has something to do with the sustained elevated temperatures when in use causing metal fatigue and moisture retention when not in use causing oxidation issues. I do believe that when it comes to headers, you get what you pay for and there’s a good selection of cheap headers available for many 2-V and a few 4-V Cleveland applications. For well engineered 4-V headers designed to fit a Classic ‘70 Mustang chassis, the choices are limited and the price really goes up. Then comes the old school die hards that choose to run Cleveland iron high port conversion heads from the glory days of Pro Stock domination. No problem in a tube chassis car. Not so easy in a ‘70 chassis. Custom headers specific to the D1AE quench chamber high ports and modified shock towers are required. Ask me how I know 😳. Still looking for a good header fabricator. And the beat goes on......

I wouldn't use any wrap It can probably deform the pipes. Just do it right and use a ceramic coating. Imagine metal that can get glowing red and you wrap it with a wrap that the pipe can't dissipate that heat. If you want to reduce Underhood temp use a heat shield to cover the header. I warn you. It looks cool but is it worth some little flow and a hole in your pocket.
