Protip for rooting around with injectors, if you do take them out for any reason clean the injector and hole with a wire brush, use copper never seize so rust and other stuff cant bind them up and for easier future removal is easy FYI copper never seize is good for upto 1100c and moderate compatibilty with most metal Silver never seize has a much lower temp range, just about everyones probably heard of it or seen used. I recently found out about nickel never seize. It has excellent compatibilty with just about every metal and combination. Same, same to same, A to B etc...

for setting the valves, what i do is bump the starter till both the intake and exhaust valves are closed, and you can wiggle both rockers on cylinder 1. ill set the intake to 9 or 10 thou, and the exhaust to 18 to 20. then ill bump the starter till cylinder 2 rockers are both loose, and continue my way down the line. ive done lots of these trucks. i think ive done 4 or 5 of these jobs this year. had to build an overhead crane to lift the heads off cause my back cant take it, and my shop floor was 3" of gravel and there was no hope of rolling an engine crane through that haha! i enjoy your videos because you're not a bullshitter. if you dont know something, you dont pretend or act like you do... we all learn together. for pulling injectors, iirc, you can thread a lug nut onto the injector and use a pry bar to leverage the injector out. i did a service call out to a junk yard to get their giant excavator going. the lift pump was doing the exact same thing as yours haha :P the vacuum pump will come off the backside. unbolt the power steering pump (one of the bolts is a massive pain in the ass!) then undo the 2 nuts that hold the vacuum pump on. its a fairly easy job :) good luck Colin! definitely makes me miss my cummins...

Cummins engines tend to have a neat little hole in the bellhousing where you can put a tool in, so you can easily turn the engine over with a ratchet :)
@analog56x2 күн бұрын
@MadMaxx570 true, but you need the tool. i just find it easier and free'er to bump the starter hahaha. If you were to set the valves half at a time, it might be ok, but if you are doing each cylinder at a time, it's way easier to just run a wire and bump the starter. You can be laying on top of the engine while you watch the valves as well...

When it comes to your valve adjustment, you should always do it with the number one cylinder exactly on top dead center make a mark on the harmonic balancer and on the front case or anywhere you can see it adjust the valves you got to adjust 10 on the intake and .020 on the exhaust there’s not very much clearance between the tops of the Pistons and the valves. This is six in a row.Jim from Kennerdell pa
@edd61134 күн бұрын
As another comment said, the chuff / huff is a duff valve, probably the one full of fuel. Every time you pull a head test the valve with some fuel, saves you pulling it a second time.

I was told that leaving an engine block out in the weather improves it, this was told to me by a ex F1 engineer. On my old 3.1 Isuzu Trooper I replaced the head gasket on it, the dealer only had the thickest head gasket so I bought it (dealer was cheapest of all the parts stores). The engine ran on it, ran pretty strong too, however it needed new injectors as it was down on power.
@Koop4154 күн бұрын
If the 5 series you're talking about is the one I'm thinking of with the vacuum pump on the mid front passenger side of the engine you don't need to remove the timing cover. However, you do have to align the flap or notch it has to fit into the slot that turns it. Just match it to the old one. Sometimes those were a little tricky to fit and we would blow a little air into the top part of the vacuum pump to slightly move it so that the notch would click into place.

it should have ran with the thicker head gasket, it was divinely the air in fuel problem for the no start(maybe injectors too). The thicker head gaskets will cause it to have idle haze. Next time for injectors order a set from dynomite they are better than oem boshe get eco's or stage 1's. As for the continued hard start, it could still be sucking a little air still and that will cause it to lose prime at start i have gone thru this issue. i would recommend doing the fuel heater bowel delete as it can suck air from there but also you could have more issue with the fuel line and even the pick up in tank. i would reccomend doing a sump and all new fuel lines from sump to lift pump, a sump sucks from bottom of tank, there are many brands out there, i have used beans diesel and power driven. For the fuel lines and heater delete, check out larry b's for that and he has some badass fuel lines kits. You should just replace that overflow valve too thats what holds the pressure in the low side of pump. I do not recommend buying cheap amazon parts it just creates problems down the road. buy once cry once! As for power upgrades down the road, def 4k gov springs, leave the delivery valves alone, (you can make very good power with stockers,) fuel plate, boost elbow, set timeing higher. what year is that truck, is the pump stock?? if not do you know what pump it is like 160, 180, 215??
