Moral to the story, always carry spare parts. We carry an oil filter, fuel filter, engine belt and wiper blades. We once had a wiper arm fall off. Not the blade, the whole arm. Luckily it was hanging by the washer hose. Now we have a cord looped through the wiper arm and around the mirror just in case. We also carry DEF, window shield washer fluid and radiator fluid for both the toad and RV. When we stop at night we run the engine on our toad to make sure all is well then we lock it up. In the morning we run it again for at least 10 minutes before we set it up to be towed. We often do not unhook at night and by running it and locking up things are safer. We also carry spare parts for our tow bar, again just in case. ACE hardware is a good place to get propane. Stay well.

@iggykonrad8368
@iggykonrad8368 4 жыл бұрын
@@leighmcqueeney9848 We buy new blades every year and keep the old ones as spares. We find a sealed storage container works well for the blades and other things. There is usually a little clip to keep them (wiper blades) in place and sometimes they break. When KW had a special mounting bolt that prevented this we didn’t have to worry but it also was harder to find replacements so we carried them in the truck.

Browsed some of the comments, so might have missed it. You could run a power wire to a battery tender to trickle charge your battery while driving. Have read that you can isolate it so it can't draw power when stopped for the night.

Hi Guys, As far as backup or primary heat you might consider the Espar or Wabasto diesel heaters. Although it might not keep the entire unit "hot" {temp. depending} it will definitely take the chill off. And it runs off diesel. I use mine all the time and it is a great heat source and cheap to run. Stay safe.

Hi guys. Remember to start the jeep once a week even if you don't drive it and let it idle for 15 to 20 minutes to recharge the battery as it will drain when not driven, because of the electronics in the vehicle. And remember never let it sit or park it over large piles of leaves and debris when the engine is hot because the heat coming off the catalytic converter could start that pile on fire! Take care. Jpol.

Typically there is always something draining the battery from the car. Once the battery gets too dead, there is no reviving it. You can get the car to start, but the battery won't fully charge, therefore requiring a new battery. Always good to have a trickle charger on it when it's not being run for a while. That includes being at a home, not just being a full time RV'r. I don't RV, but I've had multiple problems with batteries during my deployments for the Air Force. Come home to a completely dead car and a jump would only get it started, not an option once you shut the car off. Good luck out there and I love your videos!! Bobby

@@todayissomeday First in the KL Cherokee with flat tow harness...you cannot disconnect the battery. That keeps the electric steering active which prevents the "death wobble". On the 2019, the flat tow harness was eliminated and built into the system which eliminates a couple of extra steps, but the battery must still be in use. As mentioned before, a charge wire is the best option, but if not, you would need to charge your battery by running the car after every so many hours of use. After 4 years, my original battery is still going strong.

Propane will last 2x to 3x times longer if you simply install a $10 -- 15 minute timer on your hot water heater. 15 minutes will give you enough warm/hot water for 2 showers and enough left over to wash dishes. Keeping water hot all the time is a waste of $$$ ...and hassle of finding and filling. Alabama has removed propane refills from hardware stores and gas stations because propane vehicles weren't paying road taxes.

Glad you guys made it to SAT. Agree with you on the propane. We just had our underground tank at our sticks and bricks filled earlier this week and it was $2.59/gal. Given that oil prices have cratered and gas/diesel has come down slowly, you would think propane would come down, as well. Nope! Stay safe . Look forward to your next video. They are getting better and better.

Hey, if you are ever up in Michigan, a great Harvest Host to stay at is Fenn Valley Winery just outside of Fennville, MI. Very near where I lived before moving to Walton, KY. They have a great bakery and good eats there. Also very near to Saugatuck, a little harbor town reminiscent of a North Eastern state harbor town. You'd like it there. Lots of great little bars and restaurants and just a few miles south of Holland, where they have a great Tulip Festival in the Spring.

Now THAT was a funny opening video. So glad to see you are still moving about and having fun, even with the wiper blade and battery issues. We had hoped to be able to depart our Ohio home in our new RV Fifth-Wheel by the 15th of April since our house-sitters moved in in early March, but alas, that ain't going to happen now. Our new target date is around the first week of May, but if things don't work out for whatever reason then who knows when that will be after than. Stay safe, stay healthy and maybe we'll (2 retired Army soldiers) see you on the road someday.

You mentioned putting wood blocks under your tires at the golf course. We used to do that. One rain storm, puddle or bad drainage and the wood is done. We got 2 four packs of these for your DP class A. They work great. Can be stacked, wipe off so there is no mess, and we use them under our jacks some times as well. Never will use wood again. We had the same thing happen to our brand new 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trail-hawk on our first trip from Tampa to Tennessee. We thought we did something wrong but it turned out that we had a defective battery from the factory. Has worked well ever since. If you need an overnight plugin and think you can stomach an AF toad on a beautiful lake in Tennessee, give us a shout and yes we have 50 amp and for your comfort, we have a retired Navy O6 across street😎🇺🇸

I had that happen twice to my Honda CRV after towing. The second time I was staying with some friends and he is a retired electrical engineer. Like a dog with a bone, he was determined to find the problem. By the way, the first time it happened I went to a Firestone store and they put it on their diagnostics machine, said the battery and the alternator checked out OK. My tow system has a battery charger that works while I am towing, so I was surprised about the dead battery when I stopped to unhook. Well, turns out the battery charger with the tow system was 2 amps. Every time I had to brake it took like 3 amps, and that was a lot. So we decided that it just couldn't keep up. I ordered a new charger that put out 10 amps and read how much was needed from the battery. My friend installed it for me and I haven't had a problem since.

I don't have a jeep but if I leave my CR-V connected overnight I have to turn the key off or it will run down the battery. I make the practice to start it and let it charge or put a charger on it after a day of travel. I also start it and let it charge during our stops for lunch. I would check but if you change anything go back and do your setup to get ready to tow over again. Better safe than expensive. One outher thing. When unhooking the jeep. Start the jeep and put it in drive to take any tension off the towbar then put it in park so it won't roll. So when you release the arms there is no tension on the pins and they are easy to remove. LOL if you get realey board you can wax the rig.
@todayissomeday
@todayissomeday 4 жыл бұрын
Was told we didn't need to do anything to the battery on the 2019's...more research is needed! Normally when I put the parking brake on I don't have to worry about rolling. I just hit the unlock bar on the tow arms and takes tension off the pins.
@WILDEBILL308
@WILDEBILL308 4 жыл бұрын
@@todayissomeday "I just hit the unlock bar on the tow arms and takes tension off the pins." Yes it does unless you are on a slight incline. Just try it a couple of times. The slight forward preshure ensures you won't have tension on the pins when you unlock the tow arms and it will be more secure in park.

We have a Cherokee Latitude. We keep hitting the light switch with our knees taking it off auto. Have to look at everything to figure out what is chiming. No battery issues though. I can NOT get it in neutral. Drags the rear tires which we ck for each time. Frustrating, but I can get it out of neutral no problem and hook up and take of the brake thing amazing! Newbie since Feb. 28. 2022 when we left Oregon. I-10 East to FL, now heading North. Missed those Texas storms middle March by 2 days. The construction was frightening for me and the mountains coming out of OR and into CA! Cool in a car (when it isn't snowing!), not so much in a 40' towing....another story. I think I will start a journal so the kids will have something to laugh at when I am old. Love following your trip.
