I dare to argue that all LED marketing is talking about Lumens, because it’s the highest number and large numbers are impressive to the ignorants (which most people are…). Light pattern, light output, light reflected on a surface, overall brightness, none of these are of interest to the ignorant because it’s takes an effort to understand the differences of the three values. This is too complicated for most people - so they trust the marketing which only talks about Lumens. This is an educational issue and you just made a great contribution on that topic. Thanks!

You are exactly right with this, the higher number is always more attractive to those who are not educated to tell the difference!

This is exactly why I ordered your HID bulb set for my 2014 GMC Sierra that had Halogen projectors. I knew that LEDs would not work and put out a weird pattern. I LOVE the HIDs. SO much brighter and they kept the "cut off" line that I wanted to keep. They were a little involved to install, but it was well worth it. The same goes for my fog lights, I just found the highest output halogen bulb that I could because I didn't want to lose the cut off of the fog lights. Thanks guys.

Around 15 years ago (when I still lived in Stockholm/Sweden) I had an old Hilux. I added auxiliary lights to it and maxed out the alternator. (Because in SE we don’t have any limits on the number of extra lights added as long as they all turn on/off using the lever at the steering wheel.) Meaning I had more than 1400W’s (all halogens) facing forward. (I saved a few amp’s for indicators, instrument lighting, and what not.) With all the lights turned on the fuel consumption increased by ~10%! 😄 On a moonless night I went to a shore at Baggensfjärden east of Stockholm. I turned on all the lights and I could see the pine trees across this massive body of water. Meaning, I probably saw/had ~1 Lux at the trees. At home I checked the distance. It is around 2,500 meters (1.5 miles.) Meaning, I got ~1 Lux on the other side! I was blown away by what I saw. Today, using LED’s, I intend to do the same to my Gen4 Suzuki Jimny. I don’t expect the 2,500 meters of distance I had on my Hilux (and now living in Central America I don’t have any use of it) but I hope I will get a kilometer (0.5 miles) or more. Which is enough for me today. Lux/Candela is what counts, Lumens is BS - as you said. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and I hope many more people see this video and learn to understand it.

Your absolutely right on Lumens vs light assembly. Spot on! - Lumens is pure BS! I have been told that 1 Lux is what we get from a candle light and 1 Lux is enough light to read a book or a newspaper. From my point of view Lux is what really counts because it is the value of light on a surface at a certain distance be it a road sign, a tree, or an animal in front of you on the highway.
@HeadlightRevolution2 жыл бұрын
Yessir, you know your stuff! Lumens is the raw output radiating from the light source, Lux is the amount of useable light being cast onto a surface - in our case the road ahead!

Of all the manufacturers I’ve looked at no one talks about Lux/Candela. They all promote Lumens, no one mentions Lux/Candela. It’s like Lux/Candela doesn’t exist for them. Maybe I’ve looked at the wrong manufacturers. Maybe I’ve looked at the wrong ones because I have a limited budget? - Good isn’t cheap, cheap isn’t good, right? It’s all about the budget, it’s all about getting / buying / the best we can afford. I can’t afford the top notch auxiliary lights (my government / i.e. wife / would divorce me if I bought the best ones! … and I would end up only eating noodles for months! 😂 ) Meaning, the originals + the aux. lights on my car are a compromise. I look for (i.e., will buy) the best LED’s & aux. lights my limited budget can afford. Note #1…. Please make a video showing us the effects of voltage drops. - How much less (LED) light do we get if we have 14.8V at the alternator but only 9-12V at the bulb just because we used cables too thin or connectors that isn’t up to the task? Note #2… Soldering wires / connectors is a good method to ensure we get a solid transfer of power. - However, where the soldering material ends inside the cable is a strong / potential breaking point, as it’s very sensitive to vibrations. Meaning over time it will break due to vibrations if it is not secured with zip ties. Choosing the right cables (plus AND minus!) is very important. Show us what happens when we decide to ignore cable thickness vs cable length to avoid voltage drops. Show us why the minus cable should/must be of the same thickness as the plus wire. You’re a great educator, keep it up! - Your knowledgeable videos - and Aaron’s honest opinions - has convinced me that I, over time, will convert my car from halogens to your LED’s all around. Of all the channels on KZbin I find yours to be the most honest, the most knowledgeable of them all. - Please accept my appreciation for what you do, because I think you guys a great. My thanks to you for promoting good vehicle lights for us ordinary people. I’m looking forward to the day when I order my next set of LED’s for my little Gen4 Jimny. Yes, in a few weeks / months / time I will make a video about converting my Jimny from halogens to LED’s all around. Yes, I will mention you in that video. Yes, I will mention other brands than yours. Yes, I will share my experience between halogens & LED’s. Yes, I will share my experience of good vs bad installations. Yes, I will share my previous experiences & compare them with my new ones. - And I will recommend my few viewers to check out your videos to learn more about modern lighting vs old halogens because no one does it that better than you. - Why is that? Because Aaron’s recommendation when I asked him what T10’s LED parking bulbs I should buy (i.e., “his“ LED’s replacing my T10’s halogens) made an astonishing difference! Despite it is just parking lights/bulbs the difference between the two was massive, way above my expectations. Aaron’s knowledge is proven to be way above my pay grade and I trust him on all his recommendations while looking forward to order my next batch (indicator LED bulbs or LED position/brake bulbs - I haven’t made my mind up yet.) - Why do I tell you this? Because a good honest business should be promoted & encouraged. I want to share my trust in you / i.e., Aaron / with the few viewers I have on my KZbin channel because you deserve it. What you do is great, keep it up - for us ignorants who is learning from you.

Thank you so much for your support Boris, that means a ton to me & the team! 🤝 I will also be sure to let Aaron know you sincerely appreciate his help, I know he too will enjoy this! Yes many companies focus on Lumens as their measurement, but you can't forget about Lux or Candela either! They all are a part of a larger story and together you can assemble the full picture! You bring up good ideas here, such as Solder connections, voltage drops, and wire guages/connectors affecting your lighting performance and system draw! I will see what we can do about possibly putting together a video talking about these key points and how they all can affect your overall output! Thank you so much for your comment, Boris!

Sorry guys, I like your channel and the testing you do, but you should stick to the accepted definitions of these terms (instead of all the analogies) and you’ll do much better at actually educating people.
