But first he has to diagnose the headset problem by finding out what's causing the play between the form and stem. Could it be missing parts? Turns out to be a seating issue caused by the dust cap cover hitting the frame. Installing a 2mm spacer (one of the unused spare parts that came with the bike) by finger tightenng the stack net and dialing in compression with the allen key solves the problem. Bikeman, Thank you so much for this video. I just built my first BMX bike last weekend. I knew I was having problems with my headset because when I tightened the compression bolt the steering would get very stiff. When watching this video I noticed that my dust cap was in the same position as this bike. The dust cap was rubbing the top of the frame causing binding when I tightening the compression bolt. You noticed that all it needed was shims under the dust cap to prevent the cap from rubbing the frame. Man, I would have never guessed to put shims there. I followed your lead and used 2 of the thin shims under the dust cap to get just enough clearance so that when I tightened the compression bolt the dust cap did not rub on the frame. Guess what... You were right on. I was so amazed the steering was not stiff this time. I am so happy to finally have this issue resolved. I feel so much better now that it's on right. I have the same problem with my Schwinn beach cruiser low rider 🚲 bikeman I let my Lil niece ride my bike and Wen she brought it back to me the bentead Springer Fork was really loose tanks for the you help and for the video bikeman

Strange thing is I wouldn't imagine there was originally a spacer that was meant to go under the cover so do you think it's a design flaw in general or was his cover just messed up or what?

Also you only needed the shim washers to adjust the dustcover .I bet they were in the box and the kid threw them out .

I have a frame that the bearing cups are way loose are there shims or something to correct this or is the head tube junk? I was all so wondering after tightening the pressure nut and tightening down the neck can you take out the nut so you can run a break cable down the fork ? if not what other way can you do this?

How about a standard headset? Mine i put back the same way it came out and tightened and put another spacer but still shakes
