Hey Dan. I just purchased my first kayak and took it out on the water this morning. I decided to go with the Sandpiper 12 and I couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase. It exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Super easy to handle solo, tons of stability, and exceptional craftsmanship. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you’ve been instrumental in guiding me towards making the right purchase for myself. Eddyline should put you on their payroll! You do a phenomenal job advocating for their product line. Thanks for your time and effort in putting these videos together!

Remember, when you're talking about a boats rated capacity: a) that is the maximum capacity to keep enough of the boat above the waterline for safety. b) that weight capacity includes: you, all your clothes, your PFD, the paddle, your water bottle, whatever lunch/beverages you brought, the paddle float, bilge pump, safety lights, radio, etc. ...literally EVERYTHING in the boat other than the boat itself. Bottom line, even if you're just going out for an hour and aren't bringing anything much, leave some headroom on that capacity as a safety margin.

Great video as always, last year I moved from a Current designs Kestrel to my new Sitka LT what a difference. Love the new kayak so fast and the fit is perfect. Eddyline has incredible customer service and will catch up on orders, people have to be patient 👍👍

Got me a Rio! Needed the lightweight boat since it's just me and my SUV. Put a deposit on in back in December before the mad rush. Best money I've ever spent! I've been using your kayaking 101 video to practice strokes and it's very helpful. Getting more power with way less work!

Hello, I'd never been in a kayak until about a month ago when the Mrs. and I took an instructional course in a sit-in Necky Manitou 14' and we thoroughly enjoyed it. (Necky Manitou is 24” wide and 13” deep.) Since then, I’ve started watching a few of your videos (Happy Paddlin' too) and really love the information you all are putting out! I have a few questions though and I'm really sorry if you've already answered them in other videos. I’ll try to use the “F.I.T.” acronym while going over my questions. F: While the Mrs. felt great in the Necky, I did not. My feet were on the foot braces at the furthest position and I was “locked” in to where I could not adjust/move my legs or feet at all. After a little while my feet started going completely numb. I informed the instructor and she stated to take my feet off the pedals and to not use them. This of course fixed the numbness, but I was not engaged anymore with the lower half of my body and the kayak as much. Physically I'm 6'0”, 225lbs, and wear a size 12 shoe. I was also wearing water shoes at the time and part of this may be due to the shoes I was wearing, but now I'm a bit concerned about having enough leg and foot room inside the kayak. Have you ever experienced this and what would you recommend I do to fix this? I: We are primarily interested in sit-in kayaks that are more touring in nature. Recreation, camping, fitness, etc. is what we’re looking for and we’d both like to feel more in-tune with our boats and nature. She likes bird watching and I want to cover some distance while paddling. T: We live in Gloucester, Virginia and want to paddle on lakes, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. We physically live less than a mile from a river, 8 miles from a 600+ acre lake, approximately 30 miles from the Bay, and roughly 75 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. I think it would be AMAZING for us to learn and build our skills on the lake and rivers, then transition to the Bay and maybe even the ocean. Finally, I really like the Eddyline brand after watching more of your videos. (Y'all have SOLD me on the Equinox and the Sitka) but are there other brands that I should consider: Dagger, Delta, Epic, Current Designs, Stellar, Old Town, etc. Are there any brands that I should shy away from based upon what we are interested in? Next, I know the market is tough for boats right now, would it be wise to purchase a used/discontinued model under $1000 or buy a new model (like Vibe, Feel Free, etc.) under $1000? Would you recommend the Equinox, Sitka, or something else to a beginner? Would it be silly to purchase a nice brand-new Sitka (whenever they become available)? Also, since almost everyone is out of boats right now and demo’s aren’t happening…how do you find out if you like a boat before you buy it? Thank you so much for your time! Keep up the great work and informational videos!

Hi Bill, I own both a Necky Manitou and a Sitka LT. Both 14ft. The Sitka definitely fits better. 6'1", 230lbs, 11 size shoe. Sitka also feels so much more stable. Aside from foot brace adjustment, Sitka allows you to move the seat back and forth a little so I think you won't have issues in that respect. Have you decided on a kayak? It's been a minute since you commented. Happy paddlin!

@@quematelento Hello and thanks for responding! Yes, I ended up purchasing a used sitka xt at a great price. It's very nice, but I've had little to no time on the water due to other life commitments. Thanks for the information and recommendation! I will use this boat for a few years I'm sure until I find something else I want. :)

I've put 270mi on my Pungo 120 since buying it in late May, and I feel like I'm already outgrowing it - 8-11mi a night, padding the perimeters of lakes (sometimes 2-4 lakes in a night, throwing it in the back of my pickup). With that in mind, I'm thinking I'll be upgrading next year... Should I go for something like an Eddyline Sitka LT to really get the better performance (and would it fit in a pickup)? Or should I change things up and get a Hobie to complement the Pungo? I know that's kinda like comparing apples to oranges, but any thoughts or advice?

Compare the Eddyline Journey, Sitka LT or XT.
@filbilly
@filbilly 3 жыл бұрын
The Journey is a discontinued boat and was replaced by the Sitka LT. They both have skegs, but the Journey is longer by a foot and a half (15.5' vs 14.5') and wider by a half inch (24" vs 23.5"). The Journey also didn't have a day hatch. The XT is just a bigger boat like the LT to accommodate a larger paddler.
