concern that the two cells you have the pos and neg will always be out of balance til the bms kicks in and settles everything...Why not connect the pos to the tabs that you taped?

No concern there even if the cell was taking in more juice then rest in that group that are all paralleled and would self balance. The tabs at the top do not have any threaded holes. Wiring to the plates was easiest solution for me. This is just one of many ways to do it.

@@TechCentric_00 Been looking at these for a very long time. I have a shed in pa that has no heat and understand these can be charged below freezing? I lhave 3.5 kw on the roof and am currently using flood batteries.

I got one of these full and built already from BH. The pos and Neg are reverse from your build. How does that affect the red wire orientation? Are 0 and 4 the same 0 being neg and 4 being pos? Are all the others the same? Thanks.

Should be yes. I always consider the negative as 0 and count up from there per cell.

@darrenehmke I use a variable bench top power supply similar to the ones sold on batteryhookup. I charge to 14.4v at 10a.

I would definitely do research on that. I saw a video where the alternator didn't like charing lithium cells. I have no direct knowledge for car audio use for cells like these, but I have seen of of folks that have

Im have the same question. other videos from audio guys say you can just connect to your system and car will charge while you drive. some say to charge if voltage low so it wont strain your alt if its stock. I'll probably just connect if batt voltage is decent

Is a bms mandatory? Ir is just a balancing board safe? Would be in a car audio setting with a maximum of 300 amps, realisticly more like 150.

@MetalAnimeGuy the biggest things for BMS is so the cells don't get depleted lower then what is good for them. Unlike lead acid Lithium in just about every chemistry will most likely have issues if depleted to zero volts. So how ever you want to set up this pack you need to take that into consideration. One thing you can do is use a smart meter to trip a contactor when the pack voltage drop to a certain value which is what I am doing with a golf cart project I am currently filming. You can use one like this one amzn.to/3wdfdq7 Or you can use a small BMS that you only use to trip the contactor when the pack has reach it limits. A balancer is probably good in either scenario if you have some cells that sag. Most BMS balancing is small and would not help with balancing during use just when charging and letting sit. A not so high tech option is to buy a sound device that you can set to warning when cells reach a certain voltage. These are used in RC hobbies that have high current batteries but do not run with BMS you can see those here amzn.to/3vWpAhZ hope this helps. Be safe and have fun.

@TechCentric_00 assum8ng cost is the main factor. Do you have any idea how to deal with a charging voltage mismatch? My car generally charges at 14.6ish but will go up to 15.2 or a bit higher. I was going to use headway cells, but those don't like more than that. The more I look into it it seems like the sodium ion batteries seem perfect, but I don't know how safe they are. Any experience with them?

You can build two and connect in parallel. Just make sure they are the same voltage when doing so to prevent a large current spike from one pack to the other.

Whats the wh of this if you run them at roughly 10-14amps? high amp cells can run longer at a lower currents right?

Yes but that is true with all cells. Here is how Amp Hours work. This pack is roughly 48 amp hours. You have a load that requires 48 amps this pack can run that load for one hour. If the load is 24 amps then it can run for 2 hours. Hope that makes sense and answers your question. Thanks for watching.

I can't say for sure but if you run batteries at lower amps then you maybe able to squeeze more out them, but not sure how noticeable it would be.

Lol I got one of the super beast models and converted it to 12v 96ah and I put it in a battery box with a inverter bolted to the top of it, works amazingly! Now I'm just trying to sort out the charging (solar panel or jump it with the car) when out and about lol

12 cells total or 12 cells in a cell group? I am assuming 4s 3p configuration? If so you can use this kit there would just be a good bit of empty space for the missing cells.

Yes you can. Something to consider BMS are usually rated for the max capacity (ie 30amps) if you know you load will be 30 or close to it I would use a larger BMS to reduce heat which results in energy loss, and reduce the likelihood of BMS failure.

Nice video.... However if you really wanted the optimal capacity, you should capacity test each cell. Then use something like repackr to optimize how to group the cells so each cell group is as close to each other as possible in capacity. I've found the individual capacity of each battery varies widely with these used headways! So you can really leave some capacity on the table if you don't optimize. Your battery is only as strong as your weakest cell group. Cheers

Agreed this was more of a how to build this kit, that is great advice for all diy packs in general. I did not have time to capacity check every cell, but if you have the time it is advisable to do so.

If you are asking how to capacity test then there are a couple of ways. One purchase a capacity tester for lithium batteries. Two drain the battery to the lowest voltage the cell should be and using a power supply that can track how much it outputs. Write down either the amp hours of watt hours on the cell and use the repacker website to arrange.

3.11 can be connected to 3.12 or 3.13. I idea is to have not too large a gap in voltage.
