I think it was about 5 years ago I first heard of these new cells but way before I saw any used ones for sale that I bought the 10ah ones and over a month I had 20 so made me a 4s,5p battery out of them , was going to install in my van but at that time I didn't know how to control the charging current . I put these cells in a plastic amo can with all the extras I needed for ham radio , I used my 30amp switching power supply through a 60 amp dc/dc boost converter and set voltage to 14v at 5amps which was all I needed but I most certainly used a good quality smart bms to keep it balanced and protected from over hear, over voltage, under voltage and freezing weather , it was really expensive at the time as most of those cells cost me $25 bucks each but were new . The bms is Bluetooth so I can see what's going on at any time and feel much safer like this . This battery wound up costing me around $700 and well worth it .

I had to find your latest video so you would hopefully read my comment. One of your video's popped up in my feed that was on on enclosure volume comparisons. I found it very interesting and you had a link to another video... so I watched that one, too. Then another...and another.. etc. The point is your method of presenting this specific content is not only informative, It is also very engaging ! I found much of the info. you discuss to be of value to me in several areas i have involvement in. I am now going through your video library and very much enjoying feeding my cranium with new and current knowledge food. Great video's, great presentation and I thank you. Liked and subscribed !!!

Insted of that balancer you should consider a bms (battery management system). I have a daily bms 250amps on mine works great but it only gets the battery 13.4, but it keeps it their.

And that’s your issue. Dalys balancing is nearly nonexistent so you’re getting high voltage cutoff on one cell while the others are probably low. And keep in mind high voltage cutoff is going to be 3.70 or 3.75 which is unnecessarily high. No reason to go over 3.55 or 3.60

U can charge that bank with a any regular car battery charger even one from harbor freight. 10amp mode works great might take all day but it works and the Charger only charges to 14.8v and then u get the green light just like a regular deep cycle or led acid battery. @@DIYAudioGuyvery true, I was also wondering if the power supply u were using shuts off after the designated voltage is met? Just like the regular car battery chargers do. I’m liking the buss bars though, my last 3 headway banks I put together the buss bars were made from stop signs, same as any aluminum u would get from a metal supply yard just much cheaper and the work great, same thickness as the buss bars that come with the super beast and handle the amp draw just fine with it being aluminum versus copper

@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 8 ай бұрын
The balancer is designed for a 4s application. Meaning if you have four cells in series it will balance them. This thing should have no trouble starting a car. But do not put this thing under the hood of a car. It is not designed for that use and you will burn your car down.

Is it staying at 14v at the engine bay or at the amps? If it's at the amps, you are not pulling enough current to even outdrive your alternator. If voltage remains high at the engine bay, but you're seeing it drop much lower during hits at the amps, your main power wiring is undersized. Address that, then revisit a li-ion battery setup.

Get the 120a version from power max and run them in parallel. Thats 240 amps. Plenty for almost any setup. Just make sure all the wiring used is identical in length.m and sized appropriately. That’s how I powered my audio system in my 2011 Honda cr-z hybrid prior to addition of a 320a alternator. Side note these power max converters also operate on 100+volts in case anyone was wondering.Since removal from my car i use them to charge my 80ah yinlong Lto and other batteries. One charger is all i use currently and the other is a backup . I top off my battery if I haven’t been driving the car much. Only takes about 14 minutes to go from 13.6 ish volts to 15.5 at a beginning amp draw of 92 amps

You can run these with no isolator, if it's a daily driver. if it's in something that will sit for more than a couple days without running, then an isolator would be best. with that said, you DO need some form of balancer, of which the one in the links description does work for these, I have been using the same balancer for several years and it's best to do a top balance every so often and to check cells individually to make sure none have gone bad.

Ok, I'm an electrical engineer who has designed lithium battery protection and charging systems, and there are so many issues here that all I can say is please do not do this. These batteries have certain parameters that need to be addressed for even approaching safe usage. What you are doing is unsafe on many levels and I would say that you are on the path to having this pack burn up in a manner that will probably burn down your garage and hopefully not hurt anyone or worse. This can happen at any time, when charging, discharging or even while the battery is resting disconnected while you are sleeping. Just the beginning: 1, Do not exceed the maximum charge or voltage that the cell manufacturer has listed on their spec sheet. This is specific to each cell designed by the manufacturer. These cells are not like using D cell where the parameters are tied to a general design range. 2, Do not charge, store or discharge the battery cells outside of their specified temp ranges. 3, Do not discharge above the maximum current rating of the cell as listed on the specific cell data sheet. There is no rule of thumb for this. 4, the charge and discharge limits are so importaint that you must use a battery protection circuit that will disable the chargeing or discharge if they are exceeded - this can help to prevent a thermal event. 5, Do not discharge the battery below the minimum charge voltage - the battery protection board should be designed to do this automatically. Inexpensive charge balancers and battery protection boards that are available from china can be (And are often) so bad that they simply do not work. On one design we were given 8 different battery protection boards from a china based "Professional battery supplier" and none of them protected the battery in all of the cases listed above. note that longevity and safety are based on all of the parameters listed above. using the cells in a manner that is far on the safe side of these make it far more likely that you will not have a thermal event. here is a bonus point - The manner in which a cell was specifically historically used determines directly the probability of a thermal event happening - so these used cells that you got - how were they used? The issue is that there can be crystals that form in the dielectrics that can pierce through the separators inside the battery - this is made far worse from misuse. you have no idea how these used cells were cared for. I would only keep a battery like that in a separate building far away from my house, and I would treat it like a thing that is going to have a thermal event. There should already be laws about this sort of thing - this is why rural houses are not alllowed to put a large propane tank inside their house - it needs to be kept away from the house outside. Be aware that when batteries start on fire there is almost no hope of realistically putting out the fire. Fire departments just wait for it to stop burning while dousing the area with water to try to stop surrounding things from burning.

I have used headway cells for 5+ years in car audio, never a single issue on any of the banks I have, I also use the same balancer he has listed in the links for the 5+ years as well. This will trigger you even more, I have an agms upfront under the hood and these banks ran to them with no isolator charged with dual alts, but I do pull them every 2-3 months, balance them and check each cell afterwards, reassemble and fully charge them let them rest, then put them back in my vehicles. 10s of thousands of people use these cells without issue, which holds way more reliable weight, than a random person on YT claiming to be an engineer. just saying. EDIT" these Jag bus bars though, aren't nearly good enough withstand 1000 amps of continuous pull, I wouldn't even trust them for 200 amps continuous if I'm being honest, there is a reason we use thick bus bars and these jag ones aren't going to cut it.
