Healing Depression with Meditation, Part 2 - Tara Brach
Most people get depressed at times, and many suffer greatly from bouts of major depression. At the heart of the suffering is the experience of severed belonging-of being imprisoned in the pain of separation, unworthiness, unlovability and hopelessness.
These two talks explore several meditation practices that reconnect us with our natural aliveness, openheartedness and awareness. They empower us to develop our inner resources, energize us to awaken, free us from rumination and remind us that we are not our depressive thoughts and feelings. The growing realization of the loving awareness that is our home heals the very roots of depression. [Originally published 2018/08/08].

Tara, after listening to this I had a most healing meditation. One thing you said especially opened it for me: "What are you not willing to feel?" I went there and embraced it and myself and everyone who was involved. Thank you eternally! 🥰

Thank you so much Tara. These two talks on mindfulness and depression were so helpful. I will listen back and recommend to both family and friends. The recurring cycle is so exhausting and your insight and guidance , turning towards the pain , and beginning the journey out of the depression towards healing are powerful resources along with the RAIN meditations 🙏💚💫🌟

Thank you Tara that was beautiful, you are a very wise and calming lady ,I love listening to you. I watch someone who when he is in a depressed state ,seems to want to stay in that state of mind, until he just comes out of it. Then everything is fine for a while. It is so lovely when I see that mood pass. Thank you for your wise words.

Ah yes , that's the words for it , "severed belonging ". My relationship with my daughters and therefore my grandchildren is severed . This talk helped me investigate this more and why it hurts so much . They don't want me or what I have to offer is the story I tell myself . I can't remember her name right now but I like the speaker who says " is it true ? , is it really true?" and this helps shake me out of my painful simple analysis . It is true on some level but more true likely is that we both want each other but some miscommunication and misunderstanding is causing a rift and we all are too hurt to create a bridge . This is where a mediator can help . A neutral third party who can help us hear each other . That is my healthy mind speaking , but my depressed mind tells me they don't love me or like me and I'm unworthy . I wonder why we humans all seem to have this negative self talk ? Why it is so easy for us to believe we are unworthy ?

Those who will not slip beneath the still surface on the well of grief, turning down through its black water to the place we cannot breathe, will never know the source from which we drink, the secret water, cold and clear, nor find in the darkness glimmering, the small round coins, thrown by those who wished for something else. - David Whyte
