What I think I learned from this is the shield. Upgrade are really good at the platinum level is your opponent is in capable of stemming or using EMP.

I mean that upgrade really showed its value. Carriers profited from it, his normal units profited from it (especially when they stood in his own storms), it was just useless on the DTs because they were never detected :D

As a plat player I think I have a few answers for some of Harstem's confusion. I have like 1000 hours in COOP so I'm quite good at unit control and stuff like that, but I am quite bad at spending money once bases increase(Since there is a max of 2 bases in coop), and I'm quite bad at understanding how many production structures you need since I'm used to just think "I'm playing 'Stetmann' so I just get 5 bases so I have enough larva. So this might be why theres such a big disconnect between the skill of somethings compared to other because some skills are not really used doing coop. Also I'm quite new at 1v1 I have only played for a little under a month, and I have NEVER seen a ghost yet(I play Protoss) so shield upgrade is great(I just get all the upgrades because money). On a different note, I just saw the other video with PIMKIE where he got accused of the mule being IMBA and he agreed, while in this game Harstem roasted him for not knowing it existed.

It is quite a common thing for platinum players and lower, they are not using spellcasters very well if at all. I'll say the protoss used storm well for his level and it probably saved him. It's a big reason why some players are stuck at these levels.

I would add that I play around that level at 3k MMR, and this could have been one of my games, it's fairly accurate for a macro game at that level where you think you have a plan...then either you stick to it until death or you go to the next shiny thing because it "seemed" good at the time.

It depends how far he wants to rank up and what you mean by stuck. Like he's not going to ever reach Masters just by adding spellcasters to his comp, but he can make Masters by never using spellcasters. Take it from a 4.5K MMR player, MMM with Tank & Viking support is the most legit path to Masters, and he could've crushed this Protoss with it. I'm not saying Ghosts wouldn't have helped him this game but in most games they probably won't... there are so many weird random things he didn't need to be doing.

Btw I think that one reason is the use of all army and not separate control groups. As the ghost takes precedence, pressing "T" turns snipe on, instead of stimming your marines. I think you see this quite often at that level, the late stimming of the army in the late game.

As current diamond terran and diamond toss I can state that this claim is utter BS: what diamond players lack is reaction speed to cast EMP in time. And also Feedback. If you leave your HT (or your army in general) to chill around it WILL be EMP-ed and vice versa is true. What people from both sides fail is to control 200 supply army that consists of multiple units that need to be controlled.

It seems that if pimkie had f2 a-moved with his low tech army earlygame, when he had the advantage, he probably would've just won. 😅 using ghosts and moving units out of storms would be a bigger benefit in the long run, though.

the reason he doesnt stim and builds auto turrets instead is because they both use "T" as their default hotkey, and ravens come before marine/marauder in priority when F2ing

Honestly the shield upgrades should reduce the effect of EMP, there is still a big difference in the TvP win rates, EMP is just far to strong.

I feel like any TvP game is always Terran-favoured due to the Ghost. It cannot be overstated how devastating EMP is against toss, it halves the health of any unit caught in the blast radius, it's crazy, almost like a cheatcode. Doesn't make them imba of course, there's many ways to still deal with Terran, you just never want to fight them straight up at mid-lategame. Zerg doesn't want to fight toss at lategame, no race wants to fight skytoss, doesn't make the race imba, there's always ways around it. But for a Terran player to yell imba at toss is not a hill I'd want to die on.

As a low Diamond level Terran, I can confirm that templars with storms are actually a threat, basically because you are always behind in bases and supplies, trying to survive the ghosts are not a priority.

I can guarantee every single one of those fights where EMP and stim was missing was exactly because * he went into the fight * pressed T * thought he pressed the wrong button and pressed T again * got distracted by this and started looking what's happening in the command card * realized ghosts were selected * presses E for EMP and left clicks * nothing happens because ghosts died before casting EMP * presses T * dies to the storm he's standing on Is knowing what unit is currently active a skill you need to learn? Yes. Does this mistake happen often? EVERY SINGLE MATCH. How many monitors, keyboards and mice have been destroyed by the rage making this mistake causes? Countless. I've destroyed 2 mechanical keyboards and 3 mice so far.

Balance patch idea: have ghosts emp only empty energy if shields are depleted, or vice versa. Maybe limit damage (say, 125 damage to shields, whatever exceeds the shields attacks energy). Could put the current functionality behind an upgrade if the change is too big. Ghosts do too much, everyone recognizes that. In tvp specially, they have a button that deletes half the health of all the units. Protoss on the other hand, needs some good interactive AOE vs Terran. Storms are that. Marauders (and splitting) already beat AOE, ghosts don't need to also beat it. In higher levels it rewards micro, instead of pressing 1 button, which Terrans are already used to vs Zerg. In lower levels (diamond and under), no one uses/hits spells so nothing changes. One weird interaction would be with the emp on anexus to prevent recall, however.

Nice video but i disagree about the conclusion that Protoss is not imbalanced at that level. I am a casual terran player. It took me two years to reach 3.2k MMR. I dont play often but I like to learn and practice build orders. I started playing protoss one month before and after 10 games my MMR was 2.9k. I only learn one build, my toss APM is half of my terran. I make too many mistakes and yet i feel much more relaxed and succesful playing protoss. When i play terran my winrate VS Carriers is 10% or less. When i played protoss i won every Game in which i made Carriers against better oponents sometimes. I dont think that Protoss is generally imbalanced and i play sometimes against skilled protoss players. But the carrier is too easy and strong at low level.
