From Brave New Films, Healing Trauma: Beyond Gangs & Prisons follows the transformative stories of former gang members as they share their childhood mental and physical abuse, growing up in the gang lifestyle, and the hope they have found at Homeboy Industries, the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. Highlighting the power of therapy and a place of belonging, this short documentary features our very own Father Greg Boyle as well as just a few of the incredible men and women who walk through our doors everyday.

You don’t have to be a priest to do this. You don’t have to go big. You don’t have to even work with gangs. Many people are dealing with the abuse and otherness. I myself am using my personal mortgage access to buy a triplex and will open a sober living that will provide jobs and radical kinship. We will use the same ideas as them. See the face of Christ in all people and Buddhist techniques to heal. As they do.

When I got out in 2004 I went to homeboys for help and on the way in I bumped into father Greg.I looked at him I said hello and introduced myself. He greeted me,but I guess I caught him at a bad time.I said I just got out and I need help.He said go to the front table and sign up and he just kept it pushing.I felt angry at the time because I felt that he brushed me off. I looked inside and thought to myself fuck this and turned around and walked away. Besides being angry I was heartbroken because I really wanted and needed the help and was willing to do anything to get the ball and run towards the in zone.I went home and I prayed about it trying to find an explanation about what had happened that day.Well here we are almost 2019 and today I have a career.Im a union Carpenter in las Vegas Nevada.I live a decent and productive life.Im very blessed and the future is bright.I was watching this video today and thought God knew my heart and already had a plan for me.Maybe God knew that father Greg had a full plate at that time and maybe there where people that needed more of father Greg help than what I needed. The road hasn't been easy and I've had a few bumps along the way,but God knew I was strong mentally and physically to endure and overcome. Resilience, dedication, and discipline have been key in my success.God is good and Gods plan is awesome.Father Greg I will never forget that day because it was the beganing of my journey.I didn't give up.God bless Homeboys industries.I hope that my story can motivate someone in the same situation to keep pressing on and to over come any obstacle. With Gods help and blessings anything is possible.

Good for you, I don't know you, but I'm happy that you made something of your life. I personally think that if people are given a chance they will succeed. I got a question for you, how's life in Vegas, hows the job market outhere there? Ive been thinking of relocating there from L.A.. Hit me up.

Perception!!! We see what we believe and want to see. If you had peace and joy in your heart, you wouldn't have seen his actions in a negative way. You would have probably thought "What a warm or calm and collected person". We see what we think. You saw yourself worthless at that time and interpreted him as dismissive because he didn't see your pain right away. ♥️♥️♥️

Every single educator needs to show this wonderful documentary to every single student. Hope does indeed have a home: Homeboy/Homegirl Industries. My students commented that they never really knew why people join gangs. Many of them thought that people joined gangs because it was "cool." This film corrects that error in perception. Well done, everyone at Homeboy Industries! Keep up the good work!!! We all need hope and here it is.

I really appreciate Father G and his compassion to help. I am looking for more videos of Mario.. I work with men trying to change their lives either on parole or probation and I show these videos to show hope to change. They asked if I could find more videos of Mario… does anyone know if these are possible? I just started following Homeboy Industries and I am so grateful for “G” and the mission!! Thank you!! ❤️

She analyzed Trump real good...he has some serious issues, like the 62 million who thought he was OK. Congratulations to all of you!. My birthplace is East LA, then taken to South Central LA to grow up. This was when the hospital was called General Hospital, some may be old enough to remember. My work with youth in South Central lasted over a decade. Former prisoners would work with my after school program, talking to the most at-risk students. One person on this video said he has been to all prison of California...glad you survived everything and doing well. Even without the background music, your stories touched me in a certain way. My wish is for all of you to be happy and never sad. Peace and Love

I wish we had something like this out here in Connecticut. Everyone thinks Ct. Is all rich whites in big ole beautiful houses and crime free....ya right..lmao!! Yes Ct. Has that but I haven't seen it. Grew up in the projects and still live in the hood. I stopped gangbanging about 15 years ago and been struggling with addiction my whole life but fortunately I'm clean right now thanks to God and Narcotics Anonymous. I still got a lot of work to do but I'm trying. Thank God I'll be 40 tomorrow and I never thought I'd see 20. No more prison, no more drugs, no more lying, stealing or cheating. God is good. Even though I doubt him all the time He keeps me protected and jeeps me going. What a different life today

Someone else can have my place in heaven if it's ink free, and square's as far as the eye can see! No thanks don't sign me up, I'm not even a felon, and I have epilepsy from staying with a man who beat my head against a chain link fence pole, causing severe brain damage, and I don't know what else I can do, however I am certain I know what love is not, and I just do what I know has to love, because i know it's not void of consideration for if I am keeping my brothers and sisters in the front of my conscious thought if I'm contributing humane humanity to who's in front of me right then. Shit bro I live in a 255 sqft apartment and I have a waiting list yo!
