Father Gregory Boyle, founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries, is an acknowledged expert on gangs, intervention and re-entry and today serves on the U.S. Attorney General's Defending Childhood Task Force.
Born in Los Angeles, one of eight children, Fr. Greg worked in the family-owned dairy, loading milk trucks to earn his high school tuition. An enduring memory of that youthful time is when "...these weathered old truckers would come up to me, put their arms around me and point at my father in the distance, on the loading dock, and say, 'Your dad is a great man.'" Lessons from that first job apply at Homeboy Industries today where
employees come to change for themselves and their children.
Homeboy Industries traces its roots to "Jobs For A Future" (JFF), created in 1988 by Boyle at Dolores Mission. To address the escalating problems of gang-involved youth, he and the community developed an elementary school, day care program and sought legitimate employment for young people.
Boyle serves on the National Gang Center Advisory Board (Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention). He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Loyola Law School Center for Juvenile Law and Policy and previously served on the California Commission on Juvenile Justice, Crime and Delinquency Prevention. The National Child Labor Committee recognized Fr. Greg with the first Nancy M. Daly Advocacy Award for Service to Children and Youth on January 30, 2012.
Homeboy Industries, now located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, is recognized as a national and international model for youth seeking to move beyond gangs and achieve a life of hope.

ABOUT TEDx
About TEDx: x=independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, CA with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in the UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

TEDxConejo
TEDxConejo, the Conejo Valley's forum for ideas worth sharing, is produced in association with the Conejo Valley Unified School District and the Conejo Schools Foundation. TEDxConejo is developing into an exciting community of thinkers and doers, interested and interesting people of all ages and backgrounds. Each year hundreds gather for a day of stimulating short talks and engaging discussion. The program is as diverse as the interests of the audience.
"Together" is the general theme of TEDxConejo2012. It is a broad topic designed to explore the always fascinating, often inspiring, occasionally surprising and sometimes vexing interconnectedness of our world. Speakers and presenters from the arts and sciences, business and economics, public service and philanthropy, education and learning, psychology and medicine, entertainment and technology, and others, share ideas through signature talks delivered in 18 minutes or less.

I believe I first seen father Boyle at central juvenile hall when I was facing an attempted murder in 1991. I walked in homeboy industries in the year 2000 . They helped me remove my gang affiliated tattoos. I ask god to take over my life , and my process started. I now reside in Utah with a beautiful wife , three kids, and two granddaughters. Thank you farther.

I cant listen to him enough. I love what he says that you are exactly what God had in mind when He made you. And the soul returns to itself. Tell people the truth and watch people become that truth. Would to God we would find our kinship in the midst of this pandemic: so much seems to block our finding the way to embrace each other in this time when it is so needed. I feel blinded in knowing how to do this when so much behavior is not simply dividing us, but killing us.
