This is so true. The brain is a computer and after years of continuous pattern the brain believes that is normal so it releases chemicals in order to survive and won't stop even after the situation has changed, it is doing its job and a good job at it!! Brain has to know thats not what we are doing now that we can survive with out all that cortisol being released or needing chaos to justify it.❤

Awesome that is the correct choice I’m sorry about your husband but you understand why the brain got kicked up since your husband died. It makes sense, but you can move forward now- while feeling any feelings- In fact with anything that’s about fear you have to move through it for it to go away.

The most important thing to look at is beliefs! How do I feel if I don't have any? Your brain goes WHAT!! Thoughts are filtered through beliefs, let go of ALL the beliefs and you take out the filters. Use your mind as it was meant to be used, to SERVE you. Peace & Love to all.

Many of us need to do trauma work and have trauma counseling in addition to the somatic work. I loved Peter Levine's videos and books, and James Gordon's and reading them helped me enormously. Later, I saw a somatic pain psychotherapist in Canada on Zoom. As you heal the trauma, often the anxiety reduces hugely, as you begin to see you CAN affect this with how you think about it and creating safety.

Come back to the core premise here-ANXIETY itself. Catch every manifestation the anxious brain gives you- those thoughts call em out- not true. Give messages of safety and strength to yourself (inner child). Relax. Even laugh if you want at the absurdity of the brain saying all these things are dangerous. Look at the roots of where this came from and explore that. Show your brain you’re fine by confronting and challenging any avoidance behaviors you do. You can do it it just your brain. There zero issue with any of this stuff. Forget about it and live your life!

Hi Jim, First of all thank you for this great video, I already feel a little bit better today thanks to this video. While watching it I had a lot of "aha-moments" and "that could be me" throughts. Still I would like to know if I can adapt these steps to my symptoms fatigue, exhaustion and brain fog as well? I suffer from chronical fatigue (since August 2024), exhaustion, massive brain fog, POTS and MCAS and depression due to these conditions. All since August 2024. I have been in a Flight or Fight Survival mode for 19 months now, after I got chronical sick with reflux. But the real crash came when I got sick in July 2024 with a normal virus infection, after that the above mentioned symptoms started. The last few days I have learnt on KZbin that it is possible to rewire the brain, to stop the Fight or Flight mode. This video was another great help on my way to get out of my negative thoughts. I will watch more of your videos and watch this particular one every day to remind myself of what I am capable of, which I never thought would be possible again. Today I even started doing some music again, for the first time since July 2024, which I wouldn't have thought being able to do without your video. I hope I keep being strong, because I weak up every morning being scared for another day of suffering, but now I feel a little bit more confident, that I can make it❤ Carina

That's just it. The proof is in the intensity of the sensations. As I watch this video my sensations get worse and more are "discovered." I understand it. It's almost as if there is a great disconnect between my logical brain and my subconscious. The "irony" for me is that when I'm depressed, suicide seems like the only way out. When I'm having an anxiety attack, which sometimes seems to last for days, I'm scared of dying. I'm done living my life like this and am DESPERATE for a solution. I'm at the point of trying alternatives such as Ketamine or magic mushrooms. Mental illness has stolen my life from me.

It’s really hard and when you’re at the bottom it can seem Impossible. The first thing I would say without knowing anything about your condition is move out of desperation. That only serves to strengthen the cycle. Move from being desperate to decisive that you will get better and take the steps I mentioned here(as long as there’s no true underlying medical condition to treat). Reach out if you need help

You’re not alone. Just knowing others have felt the same way can help so you don’t feel crazy. We have created a habit of anxiety- it can happen on its own. But with that we can recreate new mental pathways. It will feel uncomfortable at first bout with work we can heal.

@@bansheekate its interesting you mention the food and chemical allergies. I went through that for over a year! I mysteriously broke out in SEVERE hives from head to toe! I could not find any relief; it was so bad I too prayed for death. Mine started during the pandemic, so I thought it was related to the cleaning solutions, hand sanitizer or my mask. Where I worked required those measures. I visited MANY doctors including a rheumatologist, dermatologist, and allergists. NONE of them could find anything wrong nor could they find the cause. When the test came back as all normal, the allergist LITERALLY threw he hands up when I told him my son broke out in hives (although not as serve or intense as me) for 'no reason' too from time. He was baffled. His 'solution' was for me to take FOUR Xyzal's per day and carry an 'extra one' in case I had a break out. I have come to realize now that it is a histamine intolerance triggered by stress over the pandemic. I appreciate your response. For some reason KZbin didn't show me any of the responses until today.

What if you have mold illness (cirs) and every doctor says its all in your head. Then you watch a video like this and just accept it. Then years later you go to a mold specialist and they do bloodwork and confirmed mold. Then you get out of the😢 exposure and start getting better. But how many people watch this video and just give up and stop trusting their intuition that there is something going on. How many people have you gaslit and set their health journey back years?

What I would say is that mold can affect some people but it’s a small percentage. It’s been studied and you can Google it. Here’s a stat that I found. “Around 70% of homes contain mold. and 28% of people have mold allergies.” What I can say as I do see people with mold reactions and allergies get better with this work. I always ask them. How is your partner or family doing? Do they have any symptoms and they almost always say no so it’s not just about the mold it’s about our sensitivity level to it, which means our brain and nervous system. it’s always good to remove the mold, but there’s plenty of people with no issues with mold just like they don’t have any issues with some of these other things that peoples brain and nervous system are reacting to. i’m glad you’re feeling better and that has helped you. It’s always good to remember that it’s not just the stimuli coming in. It’s our systems as well and how they interpret and perceive and react to these things.

But the same could be said for any pathogen that impacts human (and animal) bodies. Are you advocating people not get vaccines? Or that they not take anti-viral, antibacterial and antifungal medications; or immune modulators for those with autoimmune disorders? And instead attempt to heal from infections with mindbody approaches and messages of safety because “there’s plenty of other people with no issues” to the same things, and it’s “our systems and how they interpret and react to things”?

It's fine and correct saying relax once you know it's not physical and just a thought in your mind that something is wrong. However when you consider a sufferer gets sensations or actual marks, blood, lumps etc. These can all be innocent but unless it has been checked by a GP you're saying it's fine. However it's not fine to see a GP on a daily basis. This is seeking reassurance! I find it hard to know 100% i am fine and there is no threat without reassurance from my GP so therefore my problem is uncertainty.

My throat is hypersensitive, airways, lungs and nose. Amongst other symptoms and sensations and pain. It has morphed and spread. Do I cough? When I tend to do that it just makes the cough even worse. I am trying all the tools but unsure how to combat this when it’s coming from all angles. And unsure whether to suppress the cough. It has only got worse if I don’t suppress it. You must treat every symptom/sensation in the same way and go to the source of the problem which is the brain no matter what the brain gives you you must act completely normally tell your brain that. follow these five steps and show and tell your brain you’re absolutely fine. That is the overall approach we are trying to do is to teach and convince the brain We are safe and not under any threat or danger. Remember the brain creates the symptoms as the way to keep you worried and concerned and living your life in this way, which we don’t want to do anymore. we want to live from a reassured, strong, powerful, self compassionate place.

It’s very challenging to go back to normal when I do have a physical change occurring in the body that limits me, in my case it’s a strong case of POTS. So I’m literally not getting blood to my brain and heart rate stays elevated. This causes a downstream of other sensations from the lack of blood and oxygen.

I have POTS which is TMS according to many in the MindBody TMS community, but it’s very difficult to ignore the 5 steps you have laid out here because the very real physiological symptoms that arise upon standing result in blood pressure dropping very low and the heart rate goes very high & the feet turn purple due to blood pooling to the feet, and then dizzy and even fainting. Unlike back pain, which doesn’t affect your ANS, POTS does. How can I follow the steps when I have a real physical reason to have fear. Thank you

I had POTS and it's completely gone now! i used soda and mineral water, which raised the bp to a safer level. Yes, it's VERY scary - I fainted and fell backwards into a full bathtub! But I did a lot of self-hypnosis and that often calmed the heart rate. I could lower it up to 10 points doing that! As I began to see I DID have power over it, I got calmer - and as I got calmer, the symptoms lessened and gradually disappeared. Remember the pots type symptoms and fainting is just a very strong protective response from your autonomic nervous system the freeze response. I’ve had a number of people get over this and you can too. You just have to see it this way there’s nothing dangerous going on. It’s just your brain trying to protect you. You need to move forward and get going.

But now they have found a nodule on my adrenal gland and I wonder if that’s what the problem is. It’s really hard to get any kind of mental health treatment if you are poor.

Ways to teach your brain that there is no real danger: 1) How do I perceive what I am feeling or is happening to me? Is something bad or threatening or dangerous going on? The answer is "no." 2) Relax and calm down because nothing is wrong. 3) I welcome/allow in whatever sensations I am feeling because I am not in a dangerous or threatening situation. 4) I put my attention on something or somewhere else because I want to show my brain that I am not concerned. 5) Get back to life by doing things I avoided or stopped.

Hey jim this was a awesome explanation and super grateful 🙏 i have a question about it: (the tms im recovering from is cfs) i did a brain retraining 3 day course for this and its about alot of things but a bigtbing was "changing your state" so like if your feeling fatigue it would be about noticing it, realized u dont want to keep feeling that way, beinga encouraging and kind coach to yourself and then visualizing feeling vibrznt/energized or whatever it isyou want to feel instead of the fatigue. Basically had success w thus but am 1.5yrs in and have plateaued etc.come a ling way, Only able to work a few hrs a week at thus point. Anyway Basically im wondering -your teaching here seems on acceptance, knowledge, lessening fear etc. Do you also encourage people to try and change theur state in real time or is that in your opinion not actually helpful ?/putting more pressure on to try and change the current experience ? (The brain retraining saying that we need to actually do something proactive rather than being passive, and redirect our thoughts and feelings with real time self coach talk and visualizing to what we do want to strengthen those pathways and get it moving out of the fatigue pathway right there and then ) i just always feel resistance . Love to hear your thoughts on this Also do you know about dr claire weeks's work with anxiety ?-this particular video of yours actually sounds very similar in concept !🙏❤️🦄
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 ай бұрын
Yes Claire Weeks is great and her work I hear is similar to this- I think because there is merit in how to approach this stuff. For changing your state I think it can be helpful as many have been helped in those programs. A lot of those programs I believe though don’t include feeling emotions which can be an important piece for some people. And this work is about learning to be OK with what you feel and that will help change it on its own because there’s nothing wrong with it. Try both approaches and see what helps they both can offer benefits

@moneygetten
@moneygetten 2 ай бұрын
You can have a structural problem, but the nervous system reacts to the emotions dealing with the symptoms.. So the nervous system/brain can get overprotective... Even with structural symptoms.
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 ай бұрын
Absolutely the fear which is an emotion will dial up the intensity or persistence of symptoms. We have tons of evidence of this, even when there’s nothing wrong in the body anymore like after surgery people can continue to have pain because it’s the brain that’s causing it not the body. Remember, fear is one of your most powerful emotions and the brain can use it to cause any symptom in your body with or without structural changes. In fact from my experience, a lot of people have structural changes as they age, but they only develop pain when their brain gets involved from stress, unless the structural changes are super severe, and there is a clear pathological structure reason for the pain.

@@AndresArosemena Dear Sir, you cannot "help" people with chronic pain. The human mind doesn´t work like that. The moment circumstances trigger the trauma again,(either physical or psychological) the pain returns. That is a scientific fact. Trauma is a cause, pain is a symptom. Neuro rewiring is only effective if some one is capable to separate thought from his mind. The mind, your consciousness, ( made by all your memories and experiences, thoughts, beliefs,...), your subconsciousness (the storage of all those things in life), cannot "delete" the trauma. It is stored. That is a fact too. (If you realize this, is another question). Believing in "help" is the same thing as a protection program for your computer. Until a hacker (trigger) breaks in and create a crash....A note : I am talking about real chronic pain, not the psychological mess of people who need attention and "create" chronic pain to be victimized...By the way, what I understand under "helping" people, should be free and coming from unconditional love. So far your definition of "help". Easy from behind a screen... I call it rather "an assistance" in managing a belief of protection or safety, nothing more. And yes, if you had emotional intelligence, you would understand my point of view. But I don´t "blame" you Sir. Who has now a days emotional intelligence and unconditional love....Namaste🙏
