Great interview--I'll be using this guy when I come over. I like how one can start getting the paperwork done before leaving the USA so that the insurance can start when I first arrive for my first trip (of 3 months) before I return to the USA to get ready (sell my house) to move permanently out to the Philippines.

@@porgslastforeverforeverlas8488 It sounds like we are on the same track. My house should sell fine in my area with it being small (800 sq ft) with interest rates still high, lots of people can't afford big houses. I still have some "fix ups" to do before I list it for sale (I'm in Greenbelt, MD near Washington, DC). When I make my first visit to the Philippines, I plan to check out Cebu areas, Bohol, Dumaguete areas and save the rest for my permanent move.

@@napoleonmdusa8877 wow, well I have a four bedroom 2 1/2 bath home but I live in a state that everyone is moving to currently were like sitting at number three most popular state to move to and like you I will be making my first visit by the end of the year that’s my plan and believe it or not I’m flying in to Cebu/ Mactan,, And I’m going to be looking in that area from there south to Dumaguete , I also have Bohol on my list… as well as a few other places ,.. like I said this is my first trip so it’s kind of like my exploratory trip. I think I will know after three months there what area I want to settle in. At least to start with. As far as my home I’m like you I have a few fixer-upper repairs to do but I’m starting some of those before I leave and then when I come back I’ll kick it in the high gear get it up on the market. I’m retired already so all my finances are good and in order it’s just a process of learning where I’m going and And putting the whole move together. Been talking with a few girls from over there but it’s one thing to talk to them on the phone video chat but it’s when you get there that it really matters .. at least that is my perspective so far … If you want to talk and compare notes 📝 let me know … my number 1-615-456-0400 Andrew

The median price of a cardiac bypass in the U.S. in 2017 was $152K. So if St. Lukes hospital charges American prices, I can only imagine how high the premiums and the deductibles are for a Pacific Cross policy if you're over age 60. These insurance companies do their research and they know the poor health condition of most expats. And any company that only requires a questionnaire and does not require a medical examination before selling you a policy will likely determine that anything cardiac/stroke/lung cancer related was preexisting and will deny the claim. Based on all of this, I will maintain Medicare Parts B, D, a supplement, or a Part C Medicare Advantage Plan, plus an emergency medical fund of at least $25K on top of that. The $25K should be enough to get me stabilized for anything that could happen to me in the Philippines, so that I can then board a plane and get treatment in Guam or the U.S. Don't get me wrong, it is good to know that Pacific Cross offers a health insurance option in the Philippines. However, I keep hearing horror stories about various Philippine hospitals accepting Pacific Cross and other insurers on Tuesday, but won't take it on Wednesday when your trying to get emergency treatment for your stroke, and still demand cash on the barrel head before they'll treat you. You're not going to get a letter or email from the insurance company or the hospital informing you that they no longer accept your insurance ahead of time. And like Mr. Onstad stated, you can't stop at the ATM and withdraw P200,000 on the way to the hospital for emergency treatment. Overall, having access to lifesaving emergency medical care in the Philippines is a crap shoot with your best odds in Manila, Cebu, or maybe Subic (I disagree about Silliman). Even if you're near a quality hospital, you can easily die in route stuck in traffic. For anyone retired or planning to retire in the Philippines, it's probably best to resign yourself to the reality that you could easily die from a very treatable accident/illness in the Philippines. I'm not saying any of this just to be a doomsdayer or naysayer. This is just the reality of living in the Philippines. Health concerns are the primary reason why most expats return to the states within 5 years.

Im impressed with the insurance card thing. Mr Onstad was saying people aren’t stopping at the ATM before an emergency. The card information is new information that I didn’t know, I’ve been researching for a few years. An example of health care in the state of Michigan, I’m 53 year old white guy….. it costs 100 dollars a month for the privilege of my high deductible plan. My yearly deductible is 4000.00 USD theoretically (Small print is involved), so add 2000 for a grand total of 6000 USD deductible. Hopefully if you have a problem it’s at the first of the year, if you are precluded from working you still need to pay the 100 bucks a month. So you will need to have a secondary insurance like Aflac to keep the lights on after surgery. Aflac is not going to pay much so you might fall behind on home payment. Keep in mind that you will be required to pay tax on all supplemental insurance as part of your State and USA federal income tax at the end of the year. Ain’t America great?

Hey Mike - a visa question that is off topic from this video. My understanding is that when you first travel to PI on a tourist visa for your initial 30 days, you must possess a round trip or onward travel ticket. When you go back for visa extensions, whether for another 30 or 60 days or 6 months, do you still have to present a ticket? Thanks!
