Amelia, you genuinely made me cry. I've been suffering with similar symptoms for a year now and I can't tell you how ALONE I feel in this. I'm just 19, and seeing my friends eating whatever they want without any worries makes me so angry inside. It just seems unfair. I'm the odd one, the one who always tries to eat "healthy", doesn't drink alcohol and is too scared to eat certain foods. The fact is, I'm doing this all for my health. I can't tell you how many times I've wished to have my normal life back! Life seems much more difficult now. But I'm trying my best to stay positive, and videos like this give me the strenght to keep going. Thank you Amelia, you have no idea how many people can benefit from this! Keep shining! 💫 Much love from Italy 💋

Hey, I dealt with something similar and it has taken a while, just over a year, for me to even try to get off medications. I completely feel your pain; feeling like the odd on out and feeling really upset that everyone can eat what they want and I can't for example have chocolate without it bothering my stomach a lot. I am now off my medication but still feel the symptoms sometimes but it is very minor. The thing that helped me the most I believe was exercise and eating healthier (reducing/cutting sugar intake, I didn't have coffee or chocolate for a few a while). But, as soon as I started working out a few weeks later my symptoms got good enough for me to try not taking my daily medications. Which reflects Amelia's point about our health being related to our entire body, i.e., so if you're stressed that can affect your symptoms. I found my stress levels were pretty high and working out helped resolve that, and then eating less/no sugar/pop/coffee for a few months seems to have done the trick for getting me off the meds. Hope you feel better soon, there are many people that understand your pain, don't feel alone :)

I’m also 20 and I have had IBS with constipation for 12 years and it has made me have depression and anxiety for 4 years and have bipolar from 2019 until now. I now have to always live with bipolar, so I feel your pain. My friend always wants me to eat more and pressures me to eat more even when I say no.

I have celiac disease, and it is just....not nice. No one seems to really take things like that (celiac, ibs, sibo, etc) seriously, they tend to just think we're being overdramatic or talking ourselves into our symptoms. Thank you for sharing your story!

Many naturopaths specialize in exactly the issues you're struggling with. I'm so glad I sought one out when I had issues with IBS and candida ten years ago. My symptoms were gone almost immediately and I've never had issues with IBS since. Probiotics were one of the main interventions. I love Chris Kresser too! Thanks for the update and sharing so much of your life with us Amelia.

Amelia, you responded to me when I reached out to you about how my symptoms are similar and I wanted to say thank you for having the bravery to maintain your open-ness about illnesses like this. I was housebound for 4 months, I am still only leaving the house 3 times a week and I don't know if I will be well enough to even start university next year (gap year atm) but you have made me feel less alone. I refuse to eat in front of anyone except my parents because I find it too stressful to try and hide my symptoms from people and get paranoid about their reactions if I'm honest about how any symptoms are bogging me down. thank you for being you and smashing the stigma around gastric illnesses xx

I had to reply as this is so similar to me. I have been housebound since October, and like to eat alone and get anxious at even seeing people because of my symptoms :( They suspect IBS but I think there's something more, I have acid reflux and hiatus hernia which I know for sure, but I feel like there's so much more to it, and being unable to go out to the Drs makes it so much worse :( Sending love to you as I know how it feels, you are deffo not alone xx

It's so nice to hear that you've taken ownership of what's been happening to you and are an active part in your treatment. I work in the ER in Southern California and it's really a shame how many people just rely on medications and doctors to solve their problems without even attempting to understand what's happening with their bodies. I've always been torn between a career in fashion and in healthcare but it's when I hear things like this that I'm really gratified that I've picked healthcare and am applying to medical school this year! 🙏🏽

Thank you so much for such an awesome video. I'm 17, and was diagnosed when I was 15 with SIBO. I battled it for about a year and a half (I spent about 9 months undiagnosed/getting tests done and the other 9 on a FODMOP diet). I just recently had what I believe to be a relapse, but I'm on tour with a drum corps, and I'm all the way across the country from my home and gastroenterologist. I also understand doctors not taking you seriously. I was told probably by 10 different doctors it was just a stomach flu. A 9 month long stomach flu! How ridiculous! My peice of advice is to find a Whole Foods or a QFC. They have amazing quality of food, as well as isles of FODMOP friendly things, and the workers there are usually extremely helpful in finding stuff for you if you ask.

Thanks for sharing your story, I know it's helped me and a ton of other people. Your last video about the problems you were having was the reason I went to the doctor for my symptoms. I was diagnosed with severe IBS, which I'd actually had for the last six years and had always written off the symptoms for.

I've had stomach problems since I was 14 and I'm now 23. It got so much worse during my final year at university, so after uni I went back to the doctors and I've had literally every test done under the sun, bloods, h-pylori, endoscope, MRI scan, ultrasound, and i've still not found any answers. I definitely agree that stress makes it 10x worse, but it's such a vicious circle of trying not to stress up when your stomach hurts and then you stress that you're stressing!!! ahhh you're so not alone!!

My friend went through this. She gave up dairy, eggs and gluten and sugar. This really helped and now she's much better and can stray a little in terms of dairy and sugar, but she's still gluten free. She used to be a major sugar person but now prefers a nut butter as a treat. Just thought it might be nice to hear a success story as it must be tough to go through xx

In my opinion, you are doing the best you can. Don't feel embarrassed or weak because of what is happening to you right now. But this is part of you, the way in which you deal with it is what is going to make the difference. Don't let it control your life and just let it be a little part of your day to day routine. Lot of love, wish you well.

i'm so happy that you finally have some answers!! i've had issues with irregular menstrual cycles, hair thinning, really really bad cystic acne and after i did my own research into it (and looked at my blood tests with my minuscule understanding of biology), i diagnosed myself with PCOS. my parents are both doctors and when i explained exactly what was wrong with me and meds that worked for others, they finally understood and gave me prescriptions (which are working!!!). sometimes you really have to be your own advocate for these kinds of things. now i'm enrolled in three different nutrition courses online to learn more about inflammatory foods which could be flaring up my symptoms. educating yourself is so so so important. You've touched my heart. I have an autoimmune disease which makes me have to be on a special diet for life, and there's no cure. There's much physical pain, too. Thanks again for sharing your journey. I know it's hard discussing these things, but you're helping so many people who may be going through similar issues. I'm going to share this video with a friend who is battling similar issues. And with so many people who have food allergies, you do have to be "selfish". You shouldn't have to suffer major setbacks if you think people are going to be upset about what you can't eat. We need to voice these concerns so people are aware. XO

Hi Amelia. I suffered from the same kind of thing. I tried everything and it was the hardest time of my life. Oddly enough what worked for me was meditation. All symptoms are gone, all food intolerances are gone. Stress was the mystery culprit for me and controlled my body. Modern medicine was just a distraction to the main issue. Perhaps it can help you too. Good luck on your journey.

Stephanie Parrell Same for me! I was diagnosed with sibo, fructose and lactose intollerance 2 years ago, rifaximin didn‘t work. I‘m not symptom free but I had at least 5 times diarrhoea a day and bloated after every meal, and now I only go once a day and bloat not as much. A huge difference. Can‘t recommend meditation enough!

Bethan Bird just wanted to say i also have "food anxiety" when i go out to eat! i'm always so afraid something i eat won't agree with my stomach and i'll be sick while i'm away from my own bathroom. tbh, it does happen and sometimes i have to leave events suddenly. i just try to be as honest as i can with loved ones and over time they've really understood and been supportive. so now if nothing bad happens i can enjoy a fun outing but if i do feel sick, i just leave and don't feel guilty about it. ♥️ sending love and wishing you luck on your journey 😊

My goodness Amelia. what a journey you've been on. I just discovered this video tonight. I've been watching your more current videos for about a year now. I had no idea you went through so much pain judging from say your current videos. Heartbreaking to say the least. I self-diagnosed my gut issues by going online and matching symptoms. I had a doctor at the time who would pretty much stare through me during my visits. Once I found out what I had, h. Pylori, I searched for the test and had it done, it was positive, and began a course of antibiotics 12 pills per day for 10 days. Never been so sick in my life. Like you I made it through. I learned we must be our health own advocates and ask questions and do our research. I just ordered the Paleo Cure because I still need help with my diet. Thank you so much for opening up about your struggles. I'm do glad I found this video. Warmest regards, Carol. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I liek you have tried everything, countless doctors and weird diets that make me unconfident as i have kept putting weight on or losing it due to all the different amounts of fibre and veggies im allowed etc. I just think now all i can do is relax, focus on my mind. the gut is the second brain after all Im hoping once my last ever uni exams are out the way it will help to settle me! keep us updated on diets etc that have worked for you, super helpful! xx

Thank you for being so open and honest about it all. I struggle so much to discuss my health issues with the world, so I know how brave you're being. You're helping to spread the word about something which is difficult to be open about, and few people realise just how big an impact it can have on our lives. Sometimes, it feels like I'm alone, like I'm making it all up, and like I'm not really sick. But watching this, and reading all these comments reminds me that I'm not crazy, that it's ok to be sick (10 years this year!) and not to give up trying to get better. Amelia, thank you so much for sharing! Last year, I went through a similar experience and I 100% agree with your advice to be selfish. I too was embarrassed and that made it so much harder to deal with on a daily basis. I had SIBO (treated with xifaxin and cured) and will live with IBS-C for the rest of my life. Add severe anxiety and major weight loss and you feel like you are drowning. I'm am so grateful that you have the strength to open up and share advice on this topic because I'm sure there are those out there that are struggling with this too and need help. Thankfully I'm doing much better now (it's been a year), but you really do have to take care of yourself. Don't worry about others peoples reactions. I really feel for you Amelia. I was diagnosed 5 days before Christmas with Coeliac disease, the symptoms are unbearable and incredibly painful. Not to mention the extreme and multiple deficiencies I developed as a result, and the additional symptoms from them. Healing my stomach is such a slow and difficult process, five months on the only real change to my body is that I now don't frequently vomit, and have gained a ton of weight. But I am trying to be positive, my energy levels have really started to pick back up, I am now able to properly play with my children for the first time ever without having to make excuses and lie down. So they are astonished at the change in mummy, which has drastically changed my mood and outlook :) stick with the recommended diets and treatment and rest assured that you are not alone and that we are all thinking of you and wishing you well xx

This is such a wonderful video and you've done such a fantastic job of explaining everything here 💖 Personally, I have chronic illnesses that stem from a genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and your advice in the latter part of this video resonates SO MUCH with me. Especially the part about being selfish. It's such a difficult lesson to learn. I spent SO many years pushing my body and putting myself through so much totally needless suffering for the sake of other people and I've ended up paying for it down the track, because of the damage all that overdoing-it & eating things my body couldn't handle did. Thank you so much for this video, hun -- you're what we chronically ill people call a Chronic Illness Warrior 🤘😊🤘 I hope things improve steadily from here and you get to wave goodbye to your illness asap 💖

DOLL FACE, I'm so happy you are doing better. I know exactly what you mean...it's hard to focus when there are so many causes of flare ups and you don't know which it is. Having issues here too, and I'm really thinking about cutting everything and starting over with my eating. Like today, I've not had a meal to eat YET, and it's 3:24pm. I don't remember eating a meal yesterday. For sure, when I'm not feeling well physically it effects my psyche for real and then I total;y spiral out of control. I know it's not easy to deal with and talk about but it would be great if you could do this kind of update from time to time. Thank you for your openness and I hope you will feel much better soon!

Amelia, I commend you for accomplishing one of the most difficult tasks in life, which is to be honest with oneself. You've done not only that, but shared it with the world, and you've endeared your audience in the process. This might be a trying time physically and emotionally for you, but I'm sure you've made many strides with maturity, and with clarifying what is most important in life. At first glance, you seem to have a perfect life, and that's why you're a star. But, what keeps people coming back to you is your realness. Keep shining, you do it so well! : )

I didn't have time to read all the comments so I'm sorry if it's already been mentioned but as a suffer for many years with stomach problems I too was constantly told it's just IBS and there was nothing you can do. I just want to give advice to those in that position. IBS as far as I'm concerned is a symptom of something else going on. Keep finding Dr's or experts that are willing to help solve why you have such issues with your gut. I finally found mine and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease which was causing my IBS and fatigue issues. Finally hearing that I weren't making it up in your mind or going crazy was very empowering. I hope you all find your answers soon, good luck.

Hi Amelia thanks for sharing your story and updating us. I have been experiencing a lot of uncomfortable intestinal symptoms too for well over a year, have had blood tests, intolerance tests, endocrine tests and am now seeing a nutritionist. Some days I feel better, some days I am worse and others I try to ignore the situation all together or convince myself that things have improved. I'm not convinced that we know the cause of all this but if anything I have become aware as you said that when I get stressed my intestines go crazy. I hope you are able to reach a point soon where you feel comfortable and healthy again. ❤️💛

I'm so glad you posted this update!!! I've been so interested in different diets that help these kinds of conditions because candida is an issue in my family. I'm on my last few days of a special diet now, and while there are good days and bad, I know that giving it an honest shot can only help me. Because of that, I totally support your last tip of being selfish. There is nothing worse than causing more pain and discomfort because of a fear of offending someone else. You have to let go of things that don't serve you. Stay strong! You're doing great! 💕

Thank you for sharing this 💖 It's interesting that you comment on the relationship between stress and health; this is something that I have really began to notice this year!! I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well in my a levels and get regular flare ups of IBS during periods of stress and worry. It's makes you feel so horrible and low; for weeks I found it so difficult to deal with because I just couldn't understand why I had all of these symptoms. Some doctors dismissed my case but it only took one of them to really help me learn to cope with my IBS. I hate the bloating more than the nausea/upset stomach because as a teenage girl, I'm naturally quite conscious about my body and always feel that I look so ugly due to this side effect. It is so comforting to know that I'm not alone. Thank you for sharing your story and for everyone who has commented below! x

Hey Tess - absolutely, stress plays such a role on health, and especially IBS! Awesome that you've noticed the correlation between your worry and your IBS flares, but don't give up on ever being able to recover. Your doctors may be at a loss about how to help you, but from an eastern holistic perspective, we understand IBS really well. You might want to check out my vid called "what is IBS and what causes it" to get a different perspective and start feeling inspired to really get better! I had IBS but I don't anymore, which is why I focus on helping others get better too :)

Thank you for the bottom of my heart...I had quite of the same symptomes that you addresses in your other video, and I live with them for more than 3 years...after much investigations and many consultacions with doctores I discovered that I have very high valeus of helicobacter pylori (a bacteria in the stomach) and chronic gastritis... I'have been on treatment for more than half a year and I'm yet to see change, but for what I'm seeing this kind of stuff it's not easy, as you know first hand. However i can say that your videos make me feel better and like i'm not alone, i thought that no else lived with these problemes, or if they did, it were just momentary things... I can just think you for putting yourself out there to help others. Love you and your videos :D

What a journey you've been on, Amelia 😔 It's not uncommon! SIBO is quite difficult to get rid of, especially methane type. It took me 3 courses...when it's not going away, I counsel my clients to try and understand what their root causes are, because this can help direct the right approach. Anyway, I hope you're well now, this video was made quite some time ago!

I just watched your video and I'm crying! I am going through the same thing as you. I just finished my second round of antibiotics for sibo and now I'm on a course of antimicrobials. Well, the first thing is that you are very lucky indeed to be able to have all these doctors caring for you and to be able to have access to these tests (which I have never heard of) is amazing. I was re-directed to back to the surgery for follow ups after my colonoscopy was clear, but the state of play regarding the NHS is disappointing. No one has called back, my surgery is now shut 2 afternoons a week, you have to book up months in advance if you cannot queue up at 8:00am, there are hardly any doctors now available so the suffering goes on. That was at least 3 months ago and still no communication regarding the referral. I can't afford to go private and my job does not allow me to queue up at that time or get to a phone either. To be able to take a nap after food is not feasible either. I am at work...Glad you are getting the support that many, many others do not have access to. Which hospital are you under?

Thank you for opening up about what youve been through. I know this video will help others. In my early 20s I suffered from low blood sugar & the doctors thought it was all in my head, as some of the symtoms mimick mental illness. Thank God for my step mom who had low blood sugar herself noticed the signs & got me proper help.

I am so happy you did an update on this. I have had similar issues with my body (regarding the bloating mainly, it doesn't matter what I eat, my belly just get very bloated). I completely understand how it feels, I was quite affected by it since every day it was there and I just couldn't ignore it. I changed my diet (I eat vegetables and fruit every day) I exercised and even though it felt like I tried to hard nothing was working so it made me feel quite upset. The idea is that most people tried to put the blame on me, like I was doing something wrong with my diet, that I wasn't eating too much fibre and I really think that is the wrong approach. It took me about 2 weeks, but I tried to put myself back together, I stopped doing what I was doing just to get rid of the bloating, instead, I did it for myself, to feel better. Now I am still bloated most of the times after I eat, not so much as before, but I think it helped a lot that I changed my attitude towards it, that I stopped the bloating from controlling my actions in a way and I started doing them just because I want to lead a healthy lifestyle. I still eat chocolate and ice cream when I really want to, I don't think you should cut everything you like, the best thing you do is have some sense on the quantity, I also introduced hot water with lemon in the morning. One last thing that I did and I think made a whole lot of difference was the fact that I stopped hating my body for the way it looks, I tried to appreciate it with all its flaws, no matter how bothered I am by the fact that it doesn't look exactly the way I want it to look I (or anybody) should be able to look in the mirror and not feel bad because we are bloated and our body just reacts differently. We're not made to be the same, sometimes life is more challenging for others and if that is us we just need to adapt and find a way to be happy. I hope things will work out for you and if it makes you feel better you are not alone.

Thank you so much for sharing your health journey. Please continue to do these kind of videos! It feels so good to hear from someone who deals with the same symptoms and issues coming along with them. Almost a year ago my stomach startet bloating like yours does. And up to this day I am trying to find out what causes it. I was diagnosed with fructose intolerance and cutting out fruit and fruit sugar helped my symptoms. But since they haven't gone completely my doctor told me there has to be something else. We are still testing different things and it is so frustrating to be constantly stressing about which clothes I can't wear, what food I shouldn't eat and just generally being ill. What I do know is that stress really worsens my symptoms and the days where I manage to let go also the symptoms get better. I really hope for a final diagnosis and a treatment that helps (even if I have to cut out more than fruit). Greetings from Switzerland!

I have a family history of stomach and intestinal problems. My advise is definatly avoid too much sugar, avoid alcohol, have sourdough to avoid manufactured yeast. I swear by spirulina too. My stomach bloats with stress, and as a spa therapist I know that when I feel calm and my diet is good I don't bloat. I have never been to the gp about these problems but through work I met a doctor who specialises in acupuncture and food allergies and trial and error of what foods worked. I had antibiotics as a young adult and think they accelerated my problems. I'm not a doctor and there probably have been medical advances by the sounds of things,

I have IBS and various food allergies among other not too serious allergies and auto-immune things and it is so frustrating. So many doctors take tests or do scopes and nothing changes. I have been on so many medications and elimination diets it makes my head spin. I am a fairly healthy person, and I deal with pain and discomfort well because I have always had to. Thank you for being so open and honest about this. It is embarrassing when your stomach swells and you're supposed to go out with your friends, or there is a swim day and all you want to do is wear a swimsuit, so you eat almost nothing to make sure you don't react. it is nice to know that other people out there have similar experiences and feel down or frustrated as well, that I am not just a cry baby :P

Dear Amelia, When I saw your first health update video I had similar symptoms as well, but i didn't take them seriously enough. The video made me make an appointment at my GP, I thought it can never hurt to have a check-up. She checked my tummy and took a blood test, I thought I might have IBS, or an intolerance to something. However that same day, a nurse was knocking on my door at 7 pm, telling me i needed to go to the hospital immediately because of my blood test results. She was shocked to see me on my feet. After a couple of days of tests and worrying at the hospital, they found out that I have Chronic Myleoid Leukemia. It was a huge shock to me, as I didn't have extreme symptoms other than fatigue, bloating, and weight loss. Luckily I am taking medication for it now, and my blood test results are getting better and better. I just wanted to thank you for helping me realize that i needed to go to the doctor, and I hope that whoever is reading this will learn from my story as well. Health is the most valuable thing in life, and doctors are here to help, but we need to reach out for them first!

Sending love, Amelia! I know it can be discouraging to not be "cured" of everything that's wrong. It takes a lot to get past the idea that medicine can fix what's making us sick in a two-week course of antibiotics. I hope when you look back that you see just how strong you are to go through all this and still be creating beautiful things and traveling all over the world.

I had SIBO, still have IBS, endometriosis, and I have Hashimoto's disease. The paleo diet is the only diet I've ever tried that makes me feel better. For that reason is why it's so frustrating for me when vegans push their way of living on other people. I've been there done that and it doesn't work for everyone. I no longer strictly follow a paleo diet, but pretty close. I eat mostly (75%) veggies, some grains, some local pastured meats, and some fruit and I feel the best I've felt in years. I still have autoimmune disease but I'm feeling better and learning every day. I know EXACTLY what you're going through and completely agree with your message of being selfish and putting yourself first. It's so important in order to take care of the needs of your body.

Health problems suck! I am the only one in my family who is allergic to dairy and it is so, SO hard to get the majority of my family to understand and accept that "no I can't just eat the thing with dairy, because it makes me really sick". It isn't fun to have to say no or to specify what you can or can't eat when someone invites you to their home for dinner, but like you said; it is so important to be honest and not put your body through eating something that makes it sick. You and your health is important and people who really care and love you will understand and try to help❤️

Horrible rashes, constipation, bloating, nausea, headaches, etc. I've been on drugs, diets, and even had to cut out makeup and body lotion, etc. in an effort to control it. Medication and probiotics have seemed to settle it down for now but I often felt, like you did, frustrated that I didn't know what was wrong with me. And I was driving myself crazy trying to cut different foods and products out of my life in a effort to figure out what was causing it.
