I think camping is a fun activity for kids who are a little older. Little kids maybe just a nature walk or easy day hike
@gaiagabby420Ай бұрын
I’ve watched half of this and it’s so relatable haha! My boyfriend and I were big campers, pre-baby. We tried to take our (at the time) 13 month old camping in June in Florida, and man, I oathed I would never do it again. Like Matt said you can’t really chill, you’re constantly doing something. It’s a lot of work bringing a kid on top of all the packing, cleaning, cooking, trying to keep them on their schedule, etc. I would try camping with our child again when they’re older. I really do enjoy camping in nice weather and I want my child to experience the grounding experience it is. But as a parent to young kids it’s A LOT!

Sages hair is incredible. Such a beautiful red. I like how chill and fun this was. But rain ruins camping all the time unless you have a trailer. 😂

I love Sage’s ‘I’m the captain now’ energy lol. At National Parks there are no electricity cabins you can rent. Matt can relax and you guys wouldn’t have to worry about getting wet. Then you could hike, swim and explore during the day, go back to a place that’s already established but still gives you that woodsy, outdoorsy experience. The only thing I would recommend if you do that is to bring a travel potty because there are usually only portapotties and it’s dark and scary outside at night lol.
@kiraclarke897Ай бұрын
I’m actually not outdoorsy at all but we’ve had great luck camping with our little boy (he’s currently 2.5). He loves setting up, he loves being near/in the water, playing in the sand etc I’m currently pregnant so we will see how it goes with 2!

Hikes all the way! My 3.5 year old loves a good hike. we pack a lot of snacks and take lots of breaks to make it through and keep everyone happy 😅

My kids LOVE going to a local creek, almost more than the beach! It’s shallow and they can splash around and look for river creatures. I set up a picnic on the shore and that makes it even more fun. Sometimes if I’m extra adventurous, I bring watercolor paints and we paint with river water. My kids are 6 and 3!
@Yololove247Ай бұрын
And outdoors beside a beach...zoos and visiting camp fellow friends with a plan to just go home. I'm sure they will eventually both love camping!

I’ve brought my daughter camping when she was 6 months old, and oh boy it was probably the worst camping ever. But we’ve been patient and became more prepared for the worst to happen, so we continued camping 3-4 times every summer time. She’s 22 months old now and she’s striving! Don't get me wrong, there’s always a challenge on every camping trip, but my husband and I love camping so much so we’re hoping she’ll love it too 😅

Phew! I will say some of the best memories with our kids was doing all the things camping, vacations when they were small. In the moment it’s a lot I know! 😅 but now that all our kids have gotten much bigger, those are some of the best times we remember. I miss the days when they were little like your babies but am really loving the new stages too, less work but also less cuteness lol! When people would always tell me cherish these times I really get it now.

I think Matt's right and realistically they're just too young for it to be anything other than a ton of work. I'd recommend a seasonal nature walk- go to the same place in winter, spring, summer, and fall and talk to the kids about the differences you see. In the different seasons, you can pick flowers, make autumn leaf bouquets, make a snowman or a snow angel, have a picnic... it's a great daytime activity in nature but definitely a lighter lift for the parents! Another fun idea is "camping" in your own backyard. You can set up a tent and chairs and barbecue and stuff to play in all afternoon but everyone can sleep in their own beds 😂

I would LOVE to go camping with my toddler (same age as Sage) some time soon...🤩

Tent camping is not easy with kids. We used the app to rent a trailer. They set it up for you before you get there and you just leave that at camping site and let the owner know to bring it back. That is the only camping i would do with kids under 5. We went Turkey point last week. My kids are 4 and 2. It was so much fun. We even did wineries and loved it
@abigailstahl7603Ай бұрын
We recently stayed in a yurt at a forest service campground, right on a lake, and it was amazing!! Way more chill than tent camping. Our 3 yo and 3 month old did amazing. I am not brave enough to tent camp quite yet with these kids 😂
@Liz.E.Ай бұрын
Not sure if there are any near you, but we’ve done KOA campgrounds with our young kids (last year 4 and 2, this year 5 and 3) and it’s somewhat enjoyable! They have playgrounds, jump pad, activities for the kids etc that make it a little easier to let them be somewhat independent. The one we went to isn’t very scenic but you still get that camping experience! Either way, lots of work with packing all the stuff haha.
@cynthjАй бұрын
Just to add on: Some KOAs have little "kabins" as they call them which means you don't have to worry about tents as it's a little tiny log cabin - I do think it makes it easier!
@Liz.E.Ай бұрын
@@cynthj yes! We had a family join us with a 4 year old and 1 year old that did the little cabin and it was perfect since they didn’t plan/buy all the tent supplies.

It is hard and stressful for both parents.. We've gone dry camping and fishing every summer, it was easy when my little dude was not walking yet, coz i can easily just put him in a carrier, but now that he is active and running everywhere its gone a little harder to keep him entertained and also trying to help.. routine and schedule goes out the window (here in Alaska anyway since summer is sunny 24/7) But maybe a pop up tent would help since its a lot easier to set up than other tents, there are a lot of things to have to make things easier when camping 😊 At the end of the day everyone will be exhausted especially the kids and would sleep much more

I think it also really depends whether you are camping in the wilderness or at a resort with amenities! I've done both and the latter was much more relaxing and easier. Also - did we ever get the update whether Sage stayed in the little bed or not? :)

When my kids were young we had summer camp outs in our backyard……set up the tent, bbq’d hot dogs and s’mores. They thought it was awesome! Bonus - they got the experience/practice and we didn’t have to pack the car and drive for hours. It gets much easier ages 5 and beyond! ⛺️🌲🚣🏻♂️😎
