Being conscious of the packaging and plastics of things I buy is something I am working on too. People just need to remember there are not only ways to reuse certain items, but also recycling as often as you can helps too!
@Alicia-K
@Alicia-K 5 жыл бұрын
It actually kind of stinks....the US used to sell our recyclables to China to recycle, but China is no longer accepting our plastics. Check out news sites like NBC and NY Times about it. We think it's getting recycled, but it may actually be not because of what's happening. We may be separating for no reason.

There’s still a loooot of unnecessary plastic in stores in the US... I hope that changes soon.

I was buying those eggs at Costco, too. And then my mother told me that "cage-free" and "free range" really didn't mean anything, and to look for "pasture raised." I Googled and she was right, so I've been buying Vital Farms pasture-raised eggs, and OMG! They are so delicious. I didn't think there would be any difference, but they are the best tasting eggs. And I know this sounds weird, but even the texture is better. I guess it's because the chickens are happy and running around eating bugs the way that nature intended. 😊

Yeah we were taught this in school what those terms mean and we were also taught how to trace the eggs to the farm they came from!

We just got our own flock of chickens and I must say if you have the chance to ever raise chickens, do it. The eggs that I get from my 4 hens are even better than any store bought eggs I’ve tasted. I stopped buying eggs over this past summer / fall because we were getting 4 to 5 every day (some were double yolkers too).

Good idea! The only time in the video I was considering it a waste of packaging was the individual things of rice. I use them sometimes too because they are convenient but she said she doesn't even microwave it and they use a bunch of those bags to make their dog food. Buying in bulk on rice would save a ton of packaging and be even healthier!

Hi Nikki, I just wanted to say that as someone who tries to intentionally buy products without plastic as much as possible that is fine to do just what you can. Everyone is in a different journey and has different priorities. I, for example, buy most of my produce plastic free and package free because it’s fairly easy to do so but I’m not going to stop eating berries and arugula because I can’t find them without plastic. I might just change how often I eat them. So do what works for you and as long as that is enough for you everything is good.

Hmm.. just spent some time researching the claim about onions "absorbing bacteria" and it seems to be completely false. Foods don't "absorb" bacteria from the air. They can grow bacteria if you don't store them properly, but that is true of literally any food item. If you've been throwing away onions please stop, it isn't based on any real science... If you're storing your leftovers in airtight bags/containers in the fridge there should be no issue.

Adding to your comment about keeping a variety of greens in your diet... It is crucial to eat a variety of produce, at least 5 different types of fruits or vegetables per day. Variation allows the body to get ALL essential nutrients and reduces toxins (pesticides) that may be subject to particular produce. :) thanks for the video and promoting a healthy lifestyle

Hi Nikki! I love your videos and have been watching for years! As someone who is also trying to avoid packaging as much as possible, I wonder/would recommend looking to see if you have any local farmers markets in your area for produce. Most farmers markets also have organic, package free (and VERY inexpensive comparatively) produce, eggs, herbs, flowers, nuts, etc! While it is certainly a process cutting out extra packaging, I really hope that you are being proactive and looking for alternatives. I can't wait for the rest of the series! Love you!

You can get good deal buy bringing your own containers to a bulk store near you and you won't consume that much plastic... You can start by not buying single pack food like those small packets of jasmin rice. Buy a big bag and make it yourself. Bring your reusable straw for your tea when going out. Baby steps! Think of the planet you'll leave after you're gone.
