A dietician is a excellent choice. What the doctor I think is trying to keep his sugar at a steady pace if possible. I was told before you go to bed eat some protein like a spoonful of peanut butter less sugar or a protein drink and that is suppose to help keep your sugar from dropping during the night. It does work. I know you are getting all kind of advice so seeing a dietician is the best thing to do. Also you are correct you look at the carb count not the sugar count on the labels you are doing a great job it’s all learning what his body can handle and what spikes his sugar

Hi Friends, Awww when you showed the sugar free pudding that took me right back to my Bobby. He was diabetic, he always ate sugar free pudding and the sugar free tapioca. It’s hard for me to believe he’s been gone for two years now. You two got this. John’s sugar down to 185 after eating is much improved. Lots of good buys in this haul. I bought blackberries and stuck them in the freezer. Thanks for listening 🤓🤗💜

I know the refrigerator trick works for potatoes because my husband was on a low startch diet due to kidney disease and DaVita suggested this for his potatoes (but to only be used if he absolutely felt he needed potatoes - no regularly). It does change the flavor some though. It was suggested that he use brown rice rather than white.

I’ve been diabetic for 20+ years. I try (don’t always succeed) to carb count. 15 carbs for 1 point. I got 4 points for dinner & 2 points for a snack 2x. 1 thing I was taught years before I came to be diabetic, if you get a craving for something no matter what it is eat a little. Because if you try to ignore it you’re going to binge & that can get you in trouble.

Bless your heart...A Diabetic diet can be overwhelming for sure. But did you know to subtract fiber from the carbs? It's called Net Carbs. If the product says net carbs they have already done the math. Fiber slows down the glucose uptake so does good fats like butter, olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil ect. Renee you are doing a great job!!

Look into Weight Watcher recipes, they are usually very low in carbs and sugar. Substitute wheat pasta for regular, or if you find that undesirable mix wheat with regular 1:1 and it's a lot better. Chips are very high in carbs.

Paper plates make a lot of sense if you consider the water and the time it takes to wash regular dishes. You and Mr. Wayna are doing such a good job learning to manage his Diabetes. Always have something with you if case his blood sugar drops too low. They used to recommend orange juice but I just carry a piece of chocolate in my purse or pocket, and a protein bar in my car. Maybe do some research to see what it right for Mr. Wayna. He (or you) will know when he is having a low blood sugar reaction (sweating, light headedness, confusion are just a few of the symptoms). You two are the best!

How about helping the little guy plant a couple pepper plants in your garden? Careful with the advice you choose to take. People mean well but Diabetes management is complicated so you want to be sure the information you get it accurate. The doctor's advice is confusing to me but maybe I missed something. One of the biggest things people have to change is portion control and reading labels. 185 is doing well for Mr. Wayna.

Hi !! Im new... from British Columbia, Canada. Really enjoy your channel. So allow me to throw my 2 cents in here.. lol. When reading your label you look for your carb count and look just below that for your fiber count. Say something is 20 carbs and the fiber is 7. Deduct 7 from 20.... net carbs are 13. This is very important when you are measuring insulin to cover carbs in a meal. Otherwise one could take to much insulin. But I dont think John is taking insulin every meal, right? However, once you do your net carbs it is a more accurate count of how many carbs he is actually eating. Be well... oh btw.... the groceries you bought would be between 500 to 600 dollars here... not one bit of a lie !! And you can smash up the pork rinds to use for crusting meat... tastes fantastic!!

Seeing a nutritionist will really help. The doctor will try to not make it look impossible to manage blood sugar, but they usually will have a nutritionist or dietician guide you. Until you can see one, go to the library and see what they have for diabetes diet book. Or look online for the Diabetes foundation for information. Reading food labels will get easier. There's hidden sugars, that you will learn to look for.

Renea, Get a copy of the paperback book Carbohydrate and fiber counter by Corinne T Netzer. We litterly wore out her volume #7 book. This is a great help giving serving sizes, generic and brand name foods, as well as fast food favorites. My hubby had diabetes for 42 years and this book will be a great help when and if John goes on an insulin pump. He will have his up and downs and you will travel that road with him. Our first doctor we had for diabetes maintenance had a group of us in a class for a week of training. He said something that I never forgot and it is so true. He was speaking to the diabetic patients and said, "there will be times that anything you do you will have problems controlling your diabetes and it will frustrate you. Your emotions will be on a roller coaster at times also. Just remember your spouse or helper is also on that rollercoaster. They may not have the disease but they are living it with you." And boy was he right!! Blessings to both of you and thank you for sharing. If you need to vent, don't be afraid to say something.

Is there anyway you could help me with a recipe for home made sweet potato biscuits? I saw 👀 them being made one time and I for got recipe ? I roasted my sweet potatoes 🍠 in the oven, scooped out the good stuff. My husband is a diabetic also, I am going to be 79 soon and I have so many medical problems myself and I have never made biscuits. She used heavy cream and made a drop biscuit. They looked yummy. We live on frozen microwave dinners, and Sandwiches. I have no teeth, and I can’t chew My teeth are all broken off below the gums. I did see a dozen dentists; that’s why my teeth are the way they are today. That’s another story for another day. I have to go out and cut grass, rain tomorrow, and its 3 1/2 acres. My daughter is on her way, she does most of it. Gotta go. Sincerely.

@LittleVillageHomestead
@LittleVillageHomestead 3 ай бұрын
Not completely true my friend. There are so many false videos going around on face book. Baby carrots are cleaned with chlorinated water an amount that is the same as public drinking water. The bleach and the chemical chlorpropham, sold under different brand names, including Bud Nip, is not used on carrot crops or on stored carrots in the United States at all. They tend to get slimy not because of any chemical but because some manufacturers add extra water to bagged carrots to prevent moisture loss, and this can make them slimy when sealed in a bag. Please do more research before you stop eating produce that is not only delicious but healthy.

Renea, I would simply like to suggest that rather than making huge changes to everything in John's meals, that you instead consider making fewer changes at a time. I can almost feel your nervousness, your worry, over this new diabetes diagnosis. It is a feeling that every diabetic knows very well. But just slow down, just a little. Take a deep breath. Realize that you are doing everything right, everything you can, to get Mr. Wayna back to better health. Diabetes doesn't happen overnight, and it won't be fixed overnight either. Give yourself a little grace, just as you would someone else in the same circumstance. The results you want to see will come, but it will take a little time. The changes you make need to be things that you and John will stay with long-term, and his body may respond more favorably if everything isn't turned upside down all at the same time. It may be more difficult to know what things work for him if too many things change all at once, and you want to figure out what works best for him, and what does not. Things change along the way, but that's a good place to begin. Maybe start with what you know he likes and what you may have already seen that improves his numbers, then add and change those elements to find additional options for him. My tastes are very different from when I was diagnosed, and over time you may find that happening with him as well, so the changes are not just a one time thing. Activity level, sleep, stress, water intake, portion size, stress, anxiety, illness...all those things are just a few of the long list of things that affect the numbers. And because those things fluctuate day to day, so will dietary needs. One change I made was sweet tea. I still have it every day, but now I don't buy white sugar. I use a sugar substitute, and recently I mistakenly had a taste of regular sweet tea. I couldn't drink it. I've gotten accustomed to stevia, and sugar doesn't taste good to me now. And there are foods I never would have tried before that are new favorites I can have regularly. I am by nature a very persnickety eater, but my preferences have definitely shifted. I wish I'd had someone like you to help me when I was first diagnosed. You are both doing GREAT with what I know is a difficult situation. It's daunting in the beginning but I promise it will get easier. There is an endless supply of diabetic friendly recipes online. Does Mr. Wayna enjoy that sort of thing? Maybe the two of you can find some sites you like, and then as you have time, you can each look for recipes that appeal to you both. Save them to try. Sometimes it's easier to try something completely new than it is to try to tweak a recipe you know and enjoy. I would also suggest that you ask John's doctor for a referral to an appropriate nutritionist. I wish you both the very best. Thank you for taking us along on this new path with you!

I know you are getting a lot of advice, coming from a diabetic myself what will spike my sugar may not spike someone else's. i can have spaghetti and not have much of a problem, but a slice of pizza will jack my sugar sky high. I was told by a dietitian that I should have no more than 60 carbs per meal.

Hey Renee and Mr Wayna!! Don't get overwhelmed. Pray on it and God will guide you through. Don't worry if your insurance doesn't cover a dietician because we are in the information age. You can find all you need to know at your fingertips. Take care!!❤️

Every diabetic is different and yes you have to play a little to see what affects him. I know after having it for 58 years and 8 insulin shots a day. Don’t let others tell you what you eat or make you feel guilty. Just do your best

I am new to your channel and am so happy I found you! As a diabetic I know how hard choices can be...I went from my AIC 11.3 to mine is now 5.7! It took me three years to do it but it is done...No more shots and only 1 Metformin and 1 Jardiance a day...When I was first diagnosed, I went thru the panic of what I was eating because I am a true Southern girl and lived on gravy & biscuits, fried chicken & mashed tators, liver & gravy and cobblers! But I changed some of the way I ate...I still ate all my favorite foods but in moderation...I wasn't big on sweets anyway so the southern desserts weren't really hard but again if I wanted some I ate a bite...My demon was/is Dr. Pepper!!! Talking about fighting with your demons well he is! That diet crap they wanted me to turn to is like making a child drink castor oil! BUT to have a healthy AIC 5.7 and sugar of mainly 118, I fight with him, lol...Y'all are doing very good and I am proud of you both!

Even at $1.99 for a 7 oz. block of cheese... it's still a good deal. Yes... all food companies are shrinking their packaging and charging the same price. You have to be vigilante! And in spite of all the vigilance... we still are paying more for our groceries than we have in over 10 years. It's absolutely ridiculous. Both of you should benefit health wise and weight wise with this new fangled diet you're heading for. But I still stand by my original word that a "diabetic diet" is one of the most healthy diets/eating plans out there. It's really just kind of common sense (which is rare these days). It doesn't eliminate ANY food but gives you recommended amounts to eat based on your daily allowed calorie count. How many fruits, starches, vegetables, proteins, and dairy. It's pretty hard to mess up once your blood sugar levels balance out and what your daily recommended calories are based on your age and activity and weight. Take the stress out of it... and just listen to your doctor. He's got you.

Renae. Dont go crazy. Your an awesome cook. You can do this. My husband had sugar issue weve done just fine. No meds. When comes to breads its sourdough Ive learned to make myself. I make whole wheat waffles and pancake. We eat fruit and lots of veggies. His snacks are walnuts, pork rhines. Also apples w/little peanut butter. Everyones body will react differently. I bake sweets with applesauce unsweetened or coconut sugar its low glycemic it will replace your brown sugar. When his blood sugar is high tell him to take a walk. It will bring it down. Tell him also he can drink a light beer it helps keep sugar down also. I went crazy at first but its not hard really. No breaded meats at all. Stay away. Make all from scratch you already know this. I use whole wheat and also all purpose flour. Eats. Chicken. Turkey and fish. Some beef but now much.

Great haul Renae. You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. I love you so I'm going to tell you a little truth we don't often hear our doctors, however, some up to date nutritionists may be aware. Fat is the main culprit with both diabetes and heart disease. Here's why: Without going into a very long explanation fat coats the cells and the nutrition can't get through to nourish the cells. Think about it a minute and you will understand. So eat the potato, not the potato chip, eat the olive not the olive oil. Avocados and nuts are highly nutritious, but watch the amount. Your haul of all those greens was super wise. I'm so proud of you both, you for your choices and John for being willing to do it. Praying for you both!

Here in Texas we dont have any Meyers or Publix, wish we did though. Speaking about radishes I am seeing larger and larger ones at the stores but in my opinion they just dont have the taste and flavor of the smaller ones. Actually I prefer to simply grow them myself but thats just me.

Hi Rene and John, I am Ozempic to lower my A1C blood sugars. Started in February and as of today I have lost 36 pounds and my A1C went from 6.9 to 5.2. I also take metaformin twice a day. This has been a miracle drug for me as I have been overweight and high blood sugar for the past 25 yrs. I can eat almost everything but with Ozempic you have very little appetite so I usually eat about 1/3 of what I used to consume. Protein keeps you full so sugar cravings are almost non-existant.

I’m going through the same thing my a1c was at 12 after 3 months I’m now at 7.3 And still getting lower 😊 I have learned that sugar free or zero sugar doesn’t mean no carbs usually there’s carbs. Also I try and eat my food in a certain order fiber / veggies ( non starch) ,proteins, fats then the carbs . Sometimes enough protein,fiber and fats can off set carbs . Moderation is key . He can do it😊especially with your fantastic cooking.

Always take the carbs, subtract the fiber, and you will have the net carbs. That is what to keep an eye on.
