Seeing this gorgeous, wholesome food makes it all the more shameful that kids in the U.S will eat only chicken nuggets.

I'm in SW Florida. I was just given 3 young Sesbania Grandiflora trees. I'm going to plant 2 and give 1 to a friend. I have coconut trees too. I just have to wait till they have enough leaves to take some. Thank you for the video and recipe.

Another lovely video, and I for one love the absence of music or speaking. Just the crunch of cutting, sizzle of cooking and other ambient sounds. Please keep it that way. One question: what would be a good substitute for those leaves, that I can easily get hold of in Manchester, UK?
@anjulakumarasinghe76816 жыл бұрын
This tree is found in Southeast Asian countries and the taste of the leaves is very distinct. You can not get the same taste with any other leaves. But the way she cooked is a type of a stir-fry technique using grated coconut. I lived in the UK some time ago. You could use Kale leaves in a similar way but the leaves should be thoroughly washed and dried and finely sliced and follow all the other steps as seen in the video. I used to do it! 😊

These leaves are so very healthy did they even contain all nine amino acids which mean they are a complete protein as well as providing a ton of vitamins and minerals! You can live on these leaves and not suffer any nutritional deficit. :-)

Very delicious and healthy. It is good for pregnant women and their babies/fetus. For those who do not want to become pregnant, it is not 100% but the leave can reduce the chances of getting pregnant as it has contraceptive properties. Thanks for sharing.

You're so lucky. I have to buy it for my garden. It's beneficial to the soil, other plants in the garden and your health as well. FYI: "Sesbania grandiflora, commonly known as Agathi in some regions, is a small to medium-sized leguminous tree that can reach heights of 3 to 10 meters (10 to 33 feet), depending on the growing conditions, local climate, and how it's pruned or managed. It is a versatile and valuable plant for sustainable gardening due to its numerous benefits: 1. **Edible Leaves and Flowers**: Sesbania grandiflora is primarily grown for its edible young leaves and flowers. The tender leaves are used in various Asian cuisines, particularly in salads, curries, and soups. The flowers are also edible and used in culinary dishes. 2. **High Nutritional Value**: The leaves of Sesbania grandiflora are rich in nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and proteins. They provide a valuable source of dietary nutrition. 3. **Fast Growth**: This tree is known for its rapid growth, making it an excellent choice for quick shade, green manure, or as a cover crop in agricultural settings. 4. **Nitrogen Fixation**: Like other leguminous plants, Sesbania grandiflora has root nodules that host nitrogen-fixing bacteria. This process enriches the soil with nitrogen, benefiting neighboring plants and soil fertility. 5. **Soil Improvement**: The fallen leaves and plant debris from Sesbania can be used as mulch to improve soil structure and moisture retention. It also helps suppress weed growth. 6. **Biomass Production**: The fast growth of Sesbania grandiflora makes it a valuable source of biomass, which can be used for green manure or as animal fodder. 7. **Erosion Control**: Due to its rapid growth and deep root system, Sesbania can help control soil erosion in areas with loose or erodible soil. 8. **Wildlife Attraction**: The tree's flowers are a source of nectar, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which can enhance biodiversity in the garden. 9. **Medicinal Uses**: In traditional medicine, various parts of Sesbania grandiflora are used for their potential medicinal properties. For example, they are believed to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. 10. **Permaculture Guilds**: Sesbania can be integrated into permaculture guilds or polyculture systems to provide shade, nitrogen, and other benefits to surrounding plants."
