OMG. I hadn't seen your updated videos. Didn't know you were going natural. I went 6 months in transition in 2014, but went back to a relaxer when I changed jobs and didn't have the time to devote to the natural transition. But I've been watching KZbin hair channels all weekend and after seeing your video....I'm actually feeling inspired to try it again. ☺️
@ZenGemz9 жыл бұрын
Coconut oil for detangling really helped with my transition. I think what made my transition somewhat easy was overnight deep conditioning with oil. I think 4 months into my transition, I could no long air dry... Just too too many knots and tangles. I stretched my hair (from wet to dry) before styling and I saw a huge decrease in the knots and tangles. I did blow dry my hair to stretch it. I know some people will frown on that, but that's what worked for me. I transitioned for 15 months and got no heat damage. Look forward to watching your journey unfold even more! :)
@HealthyAfroHair9 жыл бұрын
+Zen Gem I guess it's all about what works for the individual. As long as you knew what you were doing and your hair wasn't damaged, that's the main thing. 15 months is good, just imagine I've got another 10 months before I get to that point 😫 Anyway, thanks for sharing your tips.

My last relaxer was December 2015 so I'm a couple of months behind you (I'm 12 weeks post). I normally relax my hair every 8-10 weeks so this is new territory for me. I'm aiming for a 1 year transition. The knots and tangling are unreal and I'm already experiencing breakage to the point where I may have to cut my hair off sooner than 1 year (and yes, I do deep condition with heat, moisture and seal and use protein regularly as usual. The only thing that has changed is that by now I would have had a touch up). Anyway, I watched your videos while I was relaxed and I'm glad we're transitioning at around the same time too. My mother (but not my brothers funnily enough) think going natural is a bad idea but personally, I'm excited about it! Haven't seen my own hair in 20 years (I'm 29 now). Good luck with your hair journey and sorry for the rant!
@HealthyAfroHair9 жыл бұрын
+cometdestroyer Thank you. Oh...know it's fine, it's good to hear how things are going on your transition. Ideally, I would like to transition long term, but it really depends on how I get on with my hair. So do what works best for you. I guess it's not worth the hassle, if you're experiencing a lot of breakage. Anyway, good to hear you'll still be watching my videos 😊 All the best with everything.

also right behind you at 4 months post relaxer...I started to transition last August 2015 and caved in January 2016 and decided i am going to do it, at whatever cost, so I am glad to follow someone on roughly the same timeline journey!

Welcome to my former life, it was an absolute nightmare. It took me two days to detangle my hair transitioning hair. I didn't know what to do. There were days that were wonderful and times that were awful when it came to detangling my hair, but it does get easier. When you've completely gone natural your hair begins to thrive. Keep going, you're doing great 😊❤️

Good for you. I transitioned for 7 months before I BC back in 2013. FYI be mindful of single strand knots after you BC. I totally ignored them and they took over my head hence the reason for a second BC causing a minor setback. Today I'm APL and still learning my Natural Hair. Products used on you relaxed hair journey might not work for you once you go natural. Have fun learning your natural hair and try to stick with it as it's not going to be an easy road, but well worth it. Good luck and I'll be watching.

+J Craig Thank you and thanks for the tips. It's definitely been a challenge so far, but I'm hanging in there. I've already got my eye on a few new products to try out, so look forward to experimenting. Anyway, sounds like things are going well with your hair. Best of luck to you too.

+Healthy Afro Hair Also, my hair porosity was off balance and lacking moisture nevermind all the different hair types mixed in. I found the Max Hydration Method that saved my life. Check it out here on YT, but don't get caught up with all the crazy recipes. Just the Aztec clay, vinegar and water do the job perfectly. Cheers.

Girl , yes I did. I BC at 1yr post. Is not been easy because I don't know what to do with my twa. I mean I have about ear/neck length but d shrinkage is real. But for one thing , it takes me about 10 mins to deep condition and 10 mins to wash😃 , that has never happen before. I guess that is one advantage of short hair.

I wash my hair once in two weeks and usually moisturize my hair once a day. I tend to have protective styles like natural braids but I don't have tight braids.
@kudzaindanga11129 жыл бұрын
Yes the struggle is real, I'm 9 months post relaxer and have been protective styling non-stop. When i do have my hair out or take it out of a protective style, i use the Mane n' Tail detangler and a tangle teezer.. I swear by it, it melts all of my knots and tangles in my hair and detangling is a breeze. You may want to try it too. Are you considering protective styling as well?
@HealthyAfroHair9 жыл бұрын
+Kudzai Ndanga Are you referring to the Mane n Tail - The Knots & tangles solution detangling spray? I have this and love it, but it's not working that well on my matted knots 😏 Anyway, yeah I'm considering box braids, but I'm still experiencing postpartum shedding, so waiting for it to slow down first, otherwise I might end up with worst tangles when I take them out.
@kudzaindanga11129 жыл бұрын
+Healthy Afro Hair aaw thanks for your reply hey yes that's the one i mean, maybe it will work later on into your journey as I only started using it about a month ago. i also waited until my postpartum shedding stopped to transition and protective style, that's a good idea to wait the box braids out.. i love your videos, happy transitioning..

Imo, it gets easier once you have more natural hair than relaxed. I'm currently 25 months post, but I'm planning on cutting the last 6 inches of relaxed hair off soon. Do you put your hair into sections when washing? This keeps the hair from tangling. I do at least 6, but I break them down smaller if I need to
@wooldetangled8 жыл бұрын
AnnB hey Queen I'm transitioning as well, 16 months post, check out my wash Routine! I detangle in sections and it definitely gets easier the more relaxed hair you have. Hope to see soon!♥️

I started transitioning in August. Although I'm in braids now, cowashing witb a veey very moisturizing conditiner with a lot of slip (As I Am Coconut Cowash mixed with grapeseed oil and JBCO Shea Moisture mask) saved me from having to detangle after washing. I even felt more comfortable with air drying which I absolutely never did due to fear of matting.

+Crystal White Oh...that sounds like an interesting mix. I've always wanted to try out the 'As I Am' co-wash. I also would love to braid my hair, but with the postpartum shedding, I'm scared I might be faced with massive knots & tangles when it comes to taking it out. Still deliberating for now. But good to hear things are going well with your transition.

hi I'm trying to just need from relaxed to Natural in about 2 to 3 months in and I was wondering what type of products do I need. and what is the best way to make my hair grow faster to get off my perms ends without doing a big chop
@HealthyAfroHair8 жыл бұрын
+Kyra Hooten You'll just need a shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser & oil to get started and there's so many great hair care brands out there. So check out; Kera care, ORS, Cantu Shea Butter, TGIN, The Mane Choice, Mielles Organic, these are just a few. In terms of helping with hair growth, I'd recommend following a good hair care regime consisting of washing & conditioning weekly, moisturising daily, sealing your hair with oils (when necessary), massaging your scalp regularly, protective styling, trimming when necessary, drinking lots of water, exercising & eating healthy.

It's hard I know, but once you get on with things, time will pass and it'll all be a distant memory. Washing your hair in braids will minimize tangles, and wearing protective styles such as braids, weaves, cornrows... actually makes transitioning much easier, because whatever style you install will keep your roots stretched, which will minimize tangles a lot. Hope this helps :)

+RoseGold Flower Thanks for the tips. I actually tried washing my hair in braids the other day, but I cut my MBL hair to SL, so the braids just unravel. Also, hoping to braid my hair once my postpartum shedding slows down.
