Hello, I’m so sorry about your husband. I’m also a kidney transplant patient. My kidney transplant never mentioned bk virus to me, I only learned because I look at my lab results after I get a lab draw, and noticed it. Did your husband die from the BK virus, or was it some other health problems?

Hi, monitoring BK virus is the best current approach to dealing with it. Get your blood work done and stay healthy! If you do get increased virus levels, your doctors will adjust your medication to help you fight this infection. BK virus is not lethal, but it can damage your new kidney to the point where another transplant is needed.
