Losing your mom is a pain that you never really get over you just learn to get through each day I know from personal experience you will always miss her and catch yourself thinking I have to tell mom something that you saw when you were away from the house. She will always be with you in your heart. I heard a saying I really like as long as a person isn't forgotten they never really have died.

Side note: another at risk group for a blood clot. Pregnant women are predisposed to get blood clots while pregnant and up to 3 months after the delivery of the baby. I had a patient who at 30 weeks pregnant developed a blood clot after flying for two hours each way to a family funeral. The clot extended from her knee up to her groin!!! Her presenting complaint was pain in that upper leg when walking.

I woke up one morning in 2015 feeling like I needed an inhaler as my chest felt a little tight but I went about my day but I felt extremely anxious and my heart felt like it was racing but I put that down to a stressful family situation. Late afternoon I just had a feeling something wasn’t quite right so I rang my GP for reassurance and she asked me to come straight over to be examined. my blood pressure and Sats were perfect but my pulse was extremely high, she said she really wasn’t sure what was wrong with me but she wasn’t happy to send me home and she called the emergency department to let them know she was sending me up straight away. When at the hospital I felt in great spirits and was laughing and joking with my husband..they did a D-Dimer test and came back and said they needed to do a CT-scan the following morning. They believed I may have a tiny blood clot in my lung that had probably broken down now and gave me a blood thinning injections and told me not to worry. That evening at home I woke up feeling like something was sitting on my chest but it didn’t last long and I was sweating but just thought I’d wait until the morning, I still felt ok though In myself and went for the CT-scan. I was called into see a consultant literally straight away for the results and he told me they were really shocked at what they found… he said both my lungs were absolutely full of blood clots and a clot on my heart valve and they needed to keep me in hospital for close observation. Which they did, I couldn’t understand why so many drs kept coming to check on me and why the nurse who was looking after me kept saying I was precious cargo? I honestly didn’t know the seriousness of it as I’d never really heard of it before.. I remember after my breakfast getting up to go to the bathroom and feeling really strange and when I walked out I collapsed on the floor but I was still awake ‘just’ I just remember I had a large team of drs around me working on me ( but I can’t remember what they were doing) and I couldn’t swallow which was putting me into a panic. Then I had another team from ICU rush me down to there and all I could hear was “ we’re losing her” I knew I was dying,,I felt my organs shutting down and everything was dark 😢 I’m a Christian and I didn’t have the strength to pray for help but I just whispered “Jesus” when I was being frantically worked on in ICU I was in and out of consciousness but I remember the searing pain of them putting a central line into my neck which was agonising.. they brought my husband, children and family in to say goodbye to me as they said I wouldn’t make it through the night… long story short I spent a month In ICU dangerously Ill fighting for my life. But little by little I started to improve and the next 6months weren’t easy but I went on to make a full recovery and all the clots disappeared and I haven’t been left with any scarring which the drs said was very rare and they said they only see patients like me with the extent of the amount of clots I had on a morgue table! I honestly believe God heard my cry ❤ my PE’s were totally unprovoked ( can’t find the reason) but I am now on Elequis for life which I’m happy about as I never want to go through that again. My advice is if you have a feeling something isn’t right PLEASE get it checked out because if I hadn’t of followed my instinct that day the drs all say I wouldn’t have made it through the night. In 2016 at the age of 40, I was short of breath one morning. After a few mins, everything went back to normal. Later that night I was coughing up a little bit of blood in the shower. Kind of blew it off, as I was excited to go to Vegas the next day. I flew out the next day. I was having some pain in my lower back in Vegas. Other then that, I felt fine. When I retuned home, I went to my doctor. They did a CT scan and found a clot in my lung. I was put on Eliquis for six months. I was a pretty heavy smoker and not super active at the time. After 25 years of smoking, I quit that day. Everything has been fine since. Looking back, I was stupid. I am lucky to be alive.

I went to two doctors, one of them a cardiologist, and both of them didn't consider long hours of sitting and dehydration as causes of DVT. Their information is fixed on being obese, a smoker, or old old person. Although I got most of the symptoms; they asked me to come "only" when I got worse like "almost dead" instead of preventing the current situation. It depends on the country that you live in. Now I am literally living on prayers.

As a nurse I’ve shared info about blood clot prevention and signs and symptoms of it. I’ve been able to help many neighbors and people with this information. Most people had a surgery and developed blood clots. Evidently my neighbors had little to no patient education before leaving the hospital.

My wife developed blood clots in her leg after relatively minor foot surgery. She had been told to keep the foot elevated, to minimize bleeding, so she stayed on her back for days. We found out that that advice was wrong, wrong, wrong. She should have been up and about immediately, to reduce her risk of DVTs. If one of those clots had dislodged it would have killed her. She's very lucky. The surgeon and nursing staff at this central B.C. hospital were completely out to lunch, seemingly unaware of the risk. I wonder sometimes how many patients they've killed.

Informative video! I’m a 55yr old guy, non smoker, no family history of clotting, and exercise every day. Got the Pfizer shots and booster in Oct 21. In January, I noticed shortness of breath on my morning bike ride. Ended up with substantial DVT in dominant leg and PE. Hospitalized for two days and 27 blood tests later, nothing conclusive. Eliquis to treat and big improvements after a few months. Amazingly new veins were formed to bypass blockage. Two hematologists still at a loss for root cause.

The video says the risk of DVT in the general population is 1 in a thousand. The risk of a DVT from covid is 8 in a thousand. 8X higher. Though it is not clear whether a vaccinated person with covid has a lower DVT risk than a non-vaxxed person with covid. But we do know that vaccinated people have a far lower risk of ending up in the ICU (i.e. their symptoms are milder) so it might follow that their risk of a serious DVT also drops. 🤔 And finally, the risk of DVT due to the vaccine is 1 in 40,000. So the numbers indicate that the vaccine did not cause the DVT. And I'm not really sure of the mechanism whereby vaccine would cause blood clotting. My impression was that that the mRNA vaccine simply teaches the body to create antibodies when it encounters the virus.

Great info! For those of us who fly, hydrate, get up and walk if you can on the plane, do the leg and feet exercises while in flight. The compression socks may not be fashionable but they help.

Hi Alana. You a re very welcome. Thank you so much for your kind words. So we recommend 20 minutes on 20 minutes off as much as you can tolerate for the first couple of weeks. Icing beyond 6 weeks is still beneficial to reduce pain and swelling which also helps to improve range of motion so there is no set stop date. Hope that helps. Great video watching just after the fact. I was diagnosed with DVT 2 days ago and spent overnight in hospital, just wanted to share my experience. I had minor surgery on my shoulder 6 days before I noticed the symptoms. I also have varicose veins in both legs. I first noticed a tender left calf and which also made me limp slightly, the tender calf felt like is after having cramp when the calf is tender for an hour or so but in this case the pain did not go away. I didn’t have the pain when sleeping or sitting down and only when standing. When I went to get my stitches removed (from the shoulder op) I mentioned the pain and they sent me straight for an ultrasound. This discovered DVT from slightly above the knee to below the knee. I was then sent straight into ER and the admitted where I was given a blood thinner injection and then tablets. I was released the following day with blood thinner tablets and told not to fly for 2 months. This is the day after being discharged and the pain is almost gone. Sharing the story as I didn’t get any swelling or red marks which done symptoms show. Have follow up appointments for the hematologist etc next week. My D-Dimer test was very high but as this video mentioned this is not necessarily a good indicator. Glad I mentioned it to the doctor.

A few months ago had a PE four days post op for knee surgery. Woke up feeling pain in my right side on inhalation/exhalation and wondered if I had pulled something. The pain was present even if I was sitting still, so called the Nurse Hotline and they advised to get to Emergency. CT Angio performed and yes, had a PE in right lower lobe of lung. So thankful this was caught and went on a course of blood thinners for 90 days. I am very glad I did not ignore my symptoms - something just seemed really not right to me that day. I’ve got a heck of a DVT/PE story for you! I’ve had 1 DVT and 6 PE’s. The first time I had a PE I went to the hospital with a back ache that I had had for about a month and it had gotten so bad I couldn’t bend over to tie my shoe. It took the ER doc a while to figure it out because he kept saying my lungs sounded funny and thought it was some type of lung infection and he ordered an MRI or CT (I forget which one). He came into my room about 30 mins later with about 5 nurses who started stripping me and starting IV and I wasn’t allowed to get out of bed. He didn’t want any piece to break off and go to my brain or anything. He said I had the biggest PE’s in both lungs he had ever seen. I ended up in ICU for a couple days then was in a regular room for 2 weeks! They wouldn’t let me leave until most of the clots had dissolved. The ER doc even came up and visited me a few times while I was there to check on me which I thought was very nice of him. My floor nurse said she had never seen an ER doc come back to check on someone they admitted like he did with me for my whole stay. He even went to bat for me to give me more pain meds because what they gave me wasn’t touching the pain. He was a God send and I know saved my life and I could tell he really cared. He said he would never forget my case. On the fourth and fifth time I had a PE I walked into the ER and told them I had a PE and the doc didn’t believe me until the tests came back positive. I just told him I’ve had them a few times and know what it’s like. They never figured out why I get them and no one in my family has ever had them. I was even getting them while on Warfarin! I’m now on Xarelto and got a PE once while on it but it was after I had surgery. I haven’t had another blood clot since then and I’ll be on a blood thinner for life.

Wow, thats a crazy story.... Had 2 PE so far. First at 27, after I broke both my legs. 1 year of warfarin. Second at 48, 6 years ago, after a business trip, with some flights. This second time the neumologist called a hematologist to have a look. I was diagnosed with a Mthfr gene mutation which among other things leads to thrombophylia. Since then I am on Xarelto (this time I couldn't handle warfarine) and on high doses of methylfolate, which is supposed to lower my homocystein levels. I hope with Xarelto, 10 mg and the folate and the intensive Mountainbiking I started 1 year ago, I will be safe...

@@BreannaLaplante-yy5jk After the 3rd PE I was referred to see a blood doc to see why I kept getting them. I never did see them. I think it was at a time I didn’t have insurance. I haven’t asked if I could see one now to see why I kept getting them. I have been lucky and only gotten one PE since being on Xarelto except once after a surgery. I guess I could ask my doc when I get my refill of Xarelto in a month and a half. It's been about 3 years since I've had a PE.

My Dad died of a DVT after flying from Sydney to Los Angeles for a holiday back in September 1994. He wasn’t feeling well, so he went to the hospital in the morning and had about $35,000 USD of tests that day but died later that evening, very quickly. 😭 My husband has had a blood clot in his leg for about 9 years, so he is on blood thinners for life. It also caused chronic cellulitis in the bottom of that same leg.

Like many others I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was sent to the ER and during testing they found tumors on both sides of my body. I had fallen on my knees a month prior to this and just thought the left knee was sore, a lump came on my thigh a month later. I felt like I had a cold and was just under the weather. I found out that I had blood clots trying to move through my lungs. Having almost died from blood clots it's always on my mind. I don't have to take blood -thinners anymore, thank God! Giving yourself shots two times per day is not something I would wish on anyone. I am encouraging everyone to keep moving and put weight on your feet. Due to surgery complications it's taken 2+ years for me to be able to walk again.

There is now blood getting thru my leg is still 2 inches bigger than left and scar tissue making it hard for the blood to get thru.. I recognized the feeling. This time, only the inner thigh hurt. And they found the scar tissue. Looks like a web. Note to self: clots scar! My guess is that eventually, I will need a stent.

I took a d-dimer which was negative and don’t have swelling, so my doctor said he didn’t think it was a clot. I think I want to get an ultrasound just to be safe.

Thank you for this information. I am a 69 yr old lady with diagnosed Pro thrombin gene DNA that throws clots. Have had one large clot in my portal vein. ER Dr told me I was a very fortunate lady as it is believed I carried a DVT in my leg for approx 5 months before it lodged in the portal vein. It appeared to be from a 3 hr flight . Anyway, that all occurred in 2018 and have taken Xaralto consistently since then. Very grateful for it despite its cost. I believe I may have had a repeat Portal vein clot this past summer ,2022. I waited it out to see family dr, and am still waiting for a CT scan. My symptoms have resolved greatly now but still waiting for further testing. Also grateful my symptoms have resolved greatly now.

I just had a D-Dimer test 3 weeks ago when I was in the E.R. for chest pain. The Dr. did the test because I was so concerned about a clot. Just as you said he told me I wasn't predisposed but if the test result warranted a CT scan would be next. (He actually only ordered the test to give me a little peace.) My nemesis Costochondritis...it just felt different this time. Thanks for educating us. ❤

Five days ago I was diagnosed with bilateral blood clots in my lungs and legs. The ONLY symptoms I had were extreme muscle fatigue. My Pa did routine blood tests and it showed high inflammation but everything else was in normal range. She then had a D Dimer done and immediately had me go to ER. CT scan showed pulmonary embolism and leg scan showed bilateral clots in legs. I believe that without the D Dimer I would not have been checked for blood clots.

Two days after I had the AstraZeneca vaccine I woke up with chest pain and shortness of breath. A ambulance had to be dispatched and they had to take me to hospital. They found I had a pulmonary embolism which led to multiple treatments. When I was discharged from hospital I had to have injected blood thinners. You definitely need to be aware of when something is not right.

Talk about strange... I've been dealing with leg pain for about 2 weeks now, and this weekend it really checked all the boxes for DVT. I've had COVID twice, (1-Delta, 1-Omicron) Tomorrow morning I am sitting in front of the cardiologist's office, and hoping he can squeak me in or someone cancels. Won't go to the local E.R., (a.k.a. "COVID Central") but I was surprised that KZbin had this video at the top of my list! Whether it was divine intervention, or Google snooping into my life, I could care less... I love watching you guys. You both make me laugh while being serious. My father died over 40 yrs ago from a clot to the lung. He just was getting on the doctors exam table and died. I just had my total knee replacement last week and my leg swelled to twice the size of my other leg and it scared me but I elevated it and iced it and it’s going down. Damn this knee replacement is no joke! I’m not doing the other knee lol heck no!

I had a blood clot when I was 12 years old in Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal Over the years I forgot about it and so it never was reported when I moved to Ontario to any doctor Is there a way to be checked for it or should I just leave it be ? Just to follow up….. request a full leg ultrasound because arteries and veins and they bulge if there is a clot as they should be the same size but more importantly….. you can see the white mass in the centre which is a blood clot…. Make ultrasound checks cheaper Doctors/HOSPITALS 🙏🏻

I had a moment a couple weeks ago where I was just standing talking to my friends and my leg went numb and I fell over. I was able to stand right back up and the pins and needles feeling went away a few minutes later, but I have been having somewhat achy and crampy leg pain ever since. I went to my doctor the day after it happened and he doesn't think it's a blood clot because I have no risk factors (30 years old, active, no smoking, minimal drinking, no birth control, etc). He thinks its related to an old knee injury and he wants to refer me to PT. He might be right, but this video and these statistics make me think it's not unrealistic that it might be a clot. it's left me very anxious still thinking that it might be a clot. I wish he would have just tested for it so that I could have some peace of mind.

There is no way you or any other doctor could say now and especially not 11 months ago, what is “rare” when discussing these injuries. With zero historical data and no trials done on ppl getting multiple doses, how would anyone know if an injury was rare? Now we just study 8 mice and call it good? Manufacturers have zero liability? We know spike stays in the body but we manufacture it in our cells with no “off” switch? VAERS is overloaded with reports and we still repeat the “S and E” mantra? I had 2 pts yesterday in their 40’s, a married couple, both with myocarditis from \/ leading to ICD. The first doctor who died in early 2021 from Thrombocytopenia and the media immediately says it’s “rare”. Rare how exactly? Who is going to speak up?

I have a hereditary blood disorder. Heterozygous Prothrombin Gene Mutation 42, male. None smoker/drinker My right leg has started really aching. Burning sensation. The veins are BURSTING through. Purple colour, warm. Constantly throbbing Im also getting palpitations from time to time My mother had a pulmonary embolism in 1989 which technically killed her for almost a minute She has ever since suffered severe DVT . Extremely discoloured legs and has been told she will need a wheel chair in later life My grans’ sister who lived in Canada was a famous amputee who paved the way for lots of disabled facilities where she was from. Beryl Potter. She lost all of her limbs Now. I am in the UK I am struggling to see a doctor. My surgery made an appointment for me to see my GP i took time off work to visit the surgery. When I got there, It was not a GP but a nurse waiting for me🤦🏻‍♂️ She was next to useless. I highlight this blood disorder to her in my files. She just had a blank face. She started GOOGLING it 🤦🏻‍♂️ I HATE hospitals or any medical place ! They make you feel BAD for even CONTACTING them!! I HATE the NHS with so much passion and I begrudge having to pay a large chunk of my salary to them while receiving ZERO expert care!!! Im now currently looking going to a private clinic and paying eye watering amounts just for a consultation I just want my leg scanned and assessed by someone who appreciates my symptoms , family history and blood thing Im typing this while at work and my leg is BURNING and throbbing! Im taking so many aspirin just in the hope that it thins the blood down and prevents the chance of it clotting Bottom line. I HATE this country And I HATE the NHS

I had that happen to me in 2019 when this whole thing started in my knee when they removed. It was infected, then surgery and still working towards my final revision, which my second prep is Monday November 25. Hopefully Covid won’t delay my surgery on November 3. I had a heart attack back in 2013 which originated in the LAD of my heart and resulted in damage to the apex muscle. Since my ejection fraction is now low, my cardiologist has me on warfarin for life. I've been on it since 2014 and it no big deal. I just have to make sure that my PT-INR level remains around 2.5. Requires some dietary modifications but it's not too big a deal. It sure beats a DVT or any type of live threatening blood clot. Thank you once again. Peace and blessings to you both.

I worked in clinical studies with a large pharma you’ve definitely heard of in the NE US. Any time a drug is going through the stages of FDA approval, there are several lengthy periods of waiting. There are backlogs of drugs waiting for a turn and then resources in animal testing facilities, waiting for enough human study volunteers to be recruited and screened, waiting for their turn with multiple FDA approval panels, etc. The ONLY a difference with COVID vaccines is that they were moved to the front of the line at every stage. Every drug would come to market just as fast without the aforementioned waiting periods. Every drug (without major setbacks) only takes 12-24 active months, cumulatively, to be fully tested and approved. The additional months, which total years, compounds, etc., sit idle waiting to be called up for the next step.

I was diagnosed with a DVT in March last year. It was a fairly long blood clot located at the hip level on the right side. The only symptom I had associated to the blood clot was the swelling of my right calf. It was gradual and it took me roughly two weeks before going to the emergency to have it looked at. The swelling would résorbe shortly after I finished my training I just had to elevate my right leg for two minutes and every thing was find. If it had been only for me I would have learned to manage. In retrospect maybe I should have done that. Much simpler for every body. I did not see it as an emergency! My wife and my coach kept advising me to see a doctor about it. I guess I could not win that battle. The anti coagulant and treatment did great for me. I never had to change anything in my life style during treatment which lasted 6 months which consisted of taking xeralto 20 mgs once a day. No symptoms associated with taking the anti-coagulant yet I cut and hurt myself with no bruise and any cut would coagulate normally. Thank god the dosage was not disruptive to my active life. Now the problem, not having found the cause of the DVT. I have to take an anti coagulant daily for the rest of my life. I read about what to do not to have blood clot and it is exactly what I have been doing all my life. I am stuck taking a drug even though I do my job, I almost snapped at my doctor. I feel like telling here I do my job of doing the right thing so do your job of finding why I got a blood clot! If it is cancer where is it? If it is bad blood flow where is it? Very frustrating to be told take medication just in case. No change in your life style required. Sure easy for you to say. What are my chances of survival if I get attacked by a vampire now that I am on anti coagulant? Mosquitos will love me now! Are you sponsored by mosquitos? (Okay I have not lost my sense of humour I guess this is positive.) How about the oxy moron statement: age is not a sickness? Hrrrrrrrr! So frustrating! . The only thing I see that I do not do diligently is I do not drink much water yet my doctor is telling me that dehydration could not be the cause. For once in my life I have asked for a second opinion on the need of taking a medication for the rest of my life. To my great surprise and happiness my doctor said find it is my privilege to have a second opinion. I am starting to like here. She won’t bulge on here recommendation after all it is for my protection and I respect that. Obviously I will not go against what two doctors that look at the details of my condition recommend. If every patients are different then a cook book approach of recommending drugs should not be used for every body. That is a patient point of view on drugs. Yes amazing but only when necessary please don’t go too fast to say it is necessary. My main worry is the long term effect of taking drugs. To take drugs as a treatment yes but for ever, I am not convinced, mind you I am a patient and not a doctor, nonetheless I have a brain too. The only long term treatment that make sens to me is eating non processed food, staying physically active, staying mentally active and obviously sleeping enough. I hope dying young in as many years possible.

Drink 64 Oz of water daily. If you have a high red blood cell count it means you are dehydrated.

Excellent points! I had a TKR in 2018 that went septic, so I was immobile for months. After that, I had a Achilles’ tendon repair on the other leg in 2020. Not much rehab due to COVID restrictions, plus I much preferred to stay away from hospitals during that time. Six months later, I developed a long blood clot, about the length of my femur, in my leg that had the Achilles repair. Called my Foot and Ankle Surgeon; she sent me to Radiology, where I had an ultrasound performed, and then was sent to ER. Placed on Eliquis, and I requested a referral to a Hematologist, which confirmed that what ER prescribed was correct, scheduled follow-up ultrasounds, escalated to Lovenox when Eliquis wasn’t knocking down the swelling sufficiently. Once I was cleared of clots, I went back on Eliquis. Just had my cavus foot repaired on the same leg, and clots are always on my mind, especially with the level of inactivity, being non-weight bearing for 6 LONG WEEKS! Love your videos! Please don’t stop giving us great information! It’s so tough wading through non-credentialed KZbin sites to find your site! I am subscribed and liked, and have forwarded and shared your information. @@CMRuffo16 My story is somewhat similar to yours, I had a TKR on my right leg. I stayed in the therapy unit at the hospital for 2 weeks. I had PT 3xs a day and then would sit after the last session (around 6pm) and get in the bed approximately 9pm. I just happen to be rubbing the right side of my leg 1 day and it felt lumpy, I ask to see the PT doctor and he said it felt fine to him but to ease my mind, he will ask for an ultrasound to be performed. I came back to my room after the ultrasound and the Dr. said I had bilateral DVTs in my legs bcuz of that I had to have a chest x-ray done and it came back showing bilateral PEs in my lungs. So now I'm on Eliquist. My primary doctor said that I should have been placed on some type of blood thinner right after surgery. It was such a traumatic experience and I know the left 1 will have to be done and although I have more knowledge from the first surgery, I don't want to go through it again. One thing for sure, I'm just thankful to be here.

Then diagnosed with double Covid Pneumonia a few days after Christmas. Still somewhat s.o.b. with activity. My d-dimer, with my age factored in put me just below limit. Yesterday my calf began to throb and ache, hurts my calf when I flex my foot. Cannot get into my doc for another week. It's freezing outside, will have to do alot of shoveling to get my car out. My eldest Son wasn’t so lucky, he passed away in Singapore’s Raffles Hosp, enroute back from an ever seas work trip. He lived in Sydney with his wife and two children 9 and 3yrs old. He rang his wife and told her he didn’t have the energy to change a flat tyre. Before he left Syd on this trip he saw a Dr on the Fri, who without doing any blood tests or scans, told him he was just unfit and gave him an inhaler. Thinking it was nothing to worry about,he flew out the next morn. In hindsight he should have gone to the E.R, if so, he might still be here. You put your faith in Drs but this one was was apparently in a hurry to finish for the day, (it was Fri afternoon). After collapsing at Singapore airport, he was rushed to hosp by ambulance. After having lots of tests and scans done, he was told that he had numerous clots in his lungs and that it was highly unlikely he would survive. They told him straight, dear God, he was all alone in a foreign country and lasted six minutes after being told of his diagnosis. Being his Mother, this would have had to be the worst day of my life as there is no pain like that of losing a child, he was 38yrs old, with so much to live for. It’s something I won’t ever get over but my faith helps me and the rest of the family continue to do our best, living without him. This happened in 2006. And yes he had Pulmonary Embolism which started in his calf, broke off and worked its way up to his lungs. RIP Mark. ❤️

In September after a week of daily increasing leg pain I went to urgent care thinking I had a herniated disc. I was sent immediately to ER and ultimately they found I had a blood clot from the bottom of my left leg into my abdomen. I was transferred to another hospital where they immediately did a thrombectomy. None had gone to my lungs thank goodness. I have been obese/morbidly obese all my life (and lost 100-200 pounds various times then gained most back) and very sedentary with zero health complications until this. It terrified me and now I'm eating super healthy - I've lost almost 50 pounds - and am up to walking 2-3 miles/day (I increase 500 steps/day each week). I also don't want to be on Eliquis the rest of my life, but apparently I have May Thurner syndrome so I don't know what the future holds.

I was on Warfarin when I got CoVid. On a nurse follow-up on day 9, I was told to go to Urgent Care, where they discovered PE's. So the CoVid overran the Warfarin's ability to prevent them. I was switched to Pradaxa and released after a 24-hour hospital stay.

I got a P.E. from Covid and I have been on Eliquis for 7 months now. Just had a CAT scan with contrast on the heart. I was able to see the report before my doctor has and as far as I can tell it came out very good. I'm a little nervous about getting off the blood thinner because I don't ever want to go through that again.

Hi Ken. So sorry to hear that but glad you are still with us. There is always a risk of another clot and subsequent PE. The risk vs benefit of long term anticoagulation would be assessed by your family doctor and often a hematologist to determine which is the best path for you. Totally normal to be nervous about it. I found this interesting, in a general way. I have idiopathic multifactor thrombophilia, and when I tell this to physicians, I generally get one of those 'deer in the headlights' looks and I have to educate them. I'm on the Coumadin for life program and have taken it for 11+ years.

I have a situation with my son who almost died from throwing up blood had to be treated in Utah. They tied off the bleeding then removed 1/2 of the spleen. Came close to death. They allowed him to come back home but could give blood thinners. While home he had fevers, couldn't breath or walk. He was admitted to.Harborview. they now found clots in the lungs, both legs so the put him on blood thinners that are causing him a low blood count. He now needs transfusions. This is so scary apparently a medical team will come in Monday to discuss the plan. Forgot to mention is portal vein is scared shut due to a previous blood clots and can't be opened. All we can is pray at this point.

Another great video, guys, and thanks for not shying away from the vaccine and clots. As an Ob/Gyn doc down here in the states, I really appreciate you making this video BECAUSE... #1) The vaccine is extremely important for our pregnant patients who are by default at higher risk, and #2) the specific risk of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (the blood clot/not really the same as a DVT/PE) is probably not higher in vaccinated people as it is in the general population, and both are very rare. All previous to Covid, I have cared for a handful of patients who have a history of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (this happens more frequently in women of reproductive age), and I'm happy to report all had successful pregnancies and healthy babies.

FYI... At 49 years old and healthy I suffered a major stroke 5 days after receiving the first maderna shot! While in the hospital after many test, none showed a reason that would cause the stroke. ( Although very thankful) Following up with the neurologist, my complete blood work up showed that I now have a gene mutation blood disorder that causes blood clots and is the reason I had a massive stroke. My whole life I have been a bleeder, hemaging on several occasions after small medical procedures, almost dying at 28 years old due to losing almost 3 pints of blood.

I had several blood clots in both legs...ultra sound did not detect anything..my right foot eventually turned back ended up in emergency. I now have stints..my right foot is useless..I have to use a walker and I'm trying to get that foot amputated. I'm so tired of the horrendous pain!

Doctors needs to add more nutrition information in their patient visits. You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community

I (69 yo female) found out I have narrowed veins in my leg after a Doppler test. I went to multiple doctors (my GP, my dermatologist and finally an appt with a podiatrist) about discolored blotches in my foot. One toe even turned deep purple. The podiatrist scheduled the Doppler. My GP got the results and sent me to a vascular surgeon. The surgeon determined it was not severe enough to warrant intervention. All this happened after Covid vaccine. Connection? Doctors say no but…..

I have been diagnosed with DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) better known as blood clots. I have had it since 2001 and I have learned how to control it so it doesn't clot, but I did have a few blood clots and I also have had one that went to my lungs when I was 6 1/2 months pregnant with my daughter and it was painful, she survived and as well as I, but I never want it to ever go to my lungs again because it was painful. I didn't have no surgery and I had to take tylenol and oxygen, so I was in the hospital for a week. I told the doctor if worse comes to worse take the baby c-section only if it's a life and death, then take the baby out. But I didn't have no surgery and I did have a healthy baby girl who know has 3 boys of her own and she's happily married.

I had been taking my dog for walks daily . Then became very debilitated. Short of breath even when talking, lower left leg very swollen, unable to walk more than 50 feet. Saw my GP who examined me and said not a DVT but maybe it was from my transplanted kidney. When chest pain started I went to ER. They eventually found DVT-blood clot in swollen leg and 2 small PE-blood clots in lung. Also an infarction in transplanted kidney. BNP was >1400. After 1 year Hemotologist says I'll remain on blood thinners forever. Now if I feel unwell, I go straight to ER.

I just recently got diagnosed with a rare blood clot disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome. My hematologist is testing me every so often for this disorder to keep an eye on my glysoprotine. She did 3 tests every 6 weeks to see if these proteins are high and not a false positive. but those three test did come back positive.

My fit elderly huband is in hospital now for blood clot in calf and lung after 2nd total knee replacement. They used the old VQ test on him since he was JUST told AFTER 2nd TKR he has kidney disease and they couldn't use CT scan. He developed overflow incontinence after surgery so they put a Foley catheter in and bloody urine began, thinking they pierced some bladder veins, just after draining blatter of 1 litre of fluid! They put a vena cava filter in his vein to protect from future clots travelling to lungs since his kidney cant tolerate more aggressive heparin IV. Now trying less damaging heparin injections. Dr said now have to test bladder and kidneys for cancer! How did a knee surgery spiral so out of control!! 1st surgery 4 months earlier went well.

In 2015 I was getting ready for work I noticed my leg was swollen like a balloon and it was red. It was not hurting or anything. I was feeling fatigue and shortness of breath... Went to the ER sure enough it was a blood clot. Got into a little bitty vein but thank God it did not go to my lungs or heart. I was on blood thinners for 3 months. Been following the doctor's orders. It is 2023 have not had one since then.

I was 23 yrs of age, I had taken the pill for a very short time, I was not overweight, didn't smoke or drink, so was shocked on awakening to massive pains in my right side of my chest like massive veins swollen stuck out in my breast , a pain that stops you saying you are in trouble. I went to AE admitted as an emergency and had an emergency operation to save my life, they told me I could never ever take the pill ever again. Years later I found that many female died from the same problem as me, big pharma was sued and many won and the female hormone pill is a lot less stronger than before. My clots were big and told I was lucky to survive.

I've had a stroke, as well as a PE... The stroke was treated with Plavix, and the PE was treated with Eliquis.. Can you describe how these medications are different, please? Thanks guys!!

Hi Pete. It really relates to how they prevent clotting. Plavix directly affects platelet function while Eliquis is an anti-Xa antagonist so indirectly affects platelet function induced by thrombin. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
