HEARING WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO HEAR
Have you ever been reluctant to ask for help or ask someone a question because you were afraid of what you might hear?
Yep, me too. I’ve experienced this in sports. I’ve experienced this in my career. I’ve experienced this in my relationships. We’re human. It’s normal.
The consequence of not asking for help or asking the question is that we’re forced to imagine what another person might be thinking or where we might stand in the world.
What if they say no?
What if they don’t like me?
What if they don’t want to help me?
We ask all those questions to ourselves whether we realize it or not. However, we don’t ask ourselves the most relevant questions:
What if I DON’T ask the questions? What if I DON’T ask for help?
Keeping things to ourselves is cool if we can handle it. I’m not suggesting that you overshare or ask questions every five minutes. What I’m suggesting is asking the questions that are eating at you, causing you anxiety, and negatively impacting your performance and your life.
Would you like to get better at hearing what you don’t want to hear?
