Ann and Nancy Wilson were my neighbour's back in 1975-76. I was a 12 year old kid and they were the first two people I met when we moved into our new house. They lived in an A Frame cabin behind our place. I used to play with their two dogs. I know that 'Magic Man' and 'Crazy On You' were written in that cabin. :)

Heart are huge Led Zeppelin fans, so this 1977 single's riff was inspired by the Led Zeppelin song "Achilles' last stand" from 1976... Ann & Nancy Wilson paid tribute to Led Zeppelin in 2012 performing 'Stairway to heaven' at the Kennedy Center Honors.

Alone was my introduction to Heart when I was a teenager. When I heard that I had to go back and find their earlier works. Barracuda was the first song on the first cassette tape (Little Queen) I bought (from the gas station!) and it blew me away. Heart from the 70s is different than Heart from the 80s. The band mostly broke up and Ann and Nancy (and Howard Leese, the session lead guitarist turned full band member) got a new bass player Mark Andes (from Spirit and Firefall) and drummer Denny Carmassi (formerly with Sammy Hagar/Montrose) and played a couple albums that didn't do well. Then they changed tactics and got help with the song writing and hit it big again with their self-titled Heart album, followed by Bad Animals, and Brigade (a LOT of great songs on that one as well). Great early songs are: Crazy On You (arguably their best!) Magic Man Heartless Straight On Great 80s hits: What About Love These Dreams (lead vocals by Nancy) Who Will You Run To Secret I Didn't Want To Need You Stranded (lead vocals by Nancy) This is by no means an exhaustive list!

Another great reaction Biss! 'Alone' is a truly great song, but 'Barracuda' is part of what I call Hearts "holy trinity" of their 3 best, and iconic, songs. (imho) The other 2 are 'Magic Man', and 'Crazy on You'. At some point you must (you MUST lol) listen to them. Most versions of 'CoY' have an awesome acoustic guitar intro played by Nancy. I think some videos cut out that intro, so you'll want to find a video with that intro. Heart did a live tribute performance of Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven while LedZep was in attendance at the Kenedy Center. iirc, one or two Ledzep members were brought to tears by the performance. Their song Magic Man is also a good listen. Cheers.
@_MjG_3 ай бұрын
By how you wrote your comment , it made the tears sound as if they were triggered by Heart's performance. Whether or not you intended to make it sound that way. Those tears were not brought on by Ann & Nancy's performance, but by the gospel choir's tribute to Led Zeppelin's former (dead) drummer John Bonham. Also, some of that emotion was likely brought on by John Bonham's son, Jason, playing drums.

As mentioned, there's quite a difference between Heart of the 70's and early 80's and starting from their massive comeback album in 1985. I'm a fan of both (plus other stuff over the years since). "Crazy On You" live from 1978 (outdoors) has an extended version of Nancy Wilson's "Silver Wheels" intro, and is a great live performance (even if the quality is from a TV broadcast). You could do both this live performance and the original album version and compare (something more reactors should do). "These Dreams" is from their 1985 album "Heart" and has Nancy on the lead vocals. Lots more too, such as "Magic Man", "Love Alive", "Straight On", "Dog And Butterfly", "What About Love", “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You”, and "(Up on) Cherry Blossom Road"(from the live concert "The Road Home"). "The Road Home" was a "unplugged" performance in 1995 that was later released on video and CD - great stuff.
