Glad you found out about power ballads. That term was used to describe the arrangement of the song more than a different genre. Most hard rock bands did one or two at most during their peak. At least that’s how I remember it. It usually referred to a song from a hard rock bad that had crossover success on the pop charts. The Professor of Rock channel has an interview with Ann Wilson discussing this song, if you’re interested.

Nancy also sings lead on "Treat Me Well" from the Little Queen album, "Love Mistake" from the Passionworks album, "Stranded" and "I Want Your World To Turn" from the Brigade album and "All For Love" from the Say Anything movie soundtrack. Ann sings backup on several of those.

Ann is still making music and singing live to this day. She has taken incredible care of her voice and it is still going very strong, although she is now 73 years old. She does a lot of heavy metal these days too.

OMG you look absolutely SHOCKED! I love it! Those sisters can harmonize live like no one else. Ann also plays flute, guitar and piano. I found an old video of Heart just jamming and Nancy was killing it on flute! They are both in their 70s now and are touring this year!

These Dreams was Heart’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 so Nancy's voice was also very good but Ann is the power voice. Record producers gave Ann crap because of her wieght like with that voice who cares.

Ann just did a duet with the. band "Disturbed" called "Don't Tell Me" Very Good Song..They also have done other great covers of Led Zeppelin besides Stairway..Other covers of Sep they have done are "Black Dog" "Kashmir" "Rock and Roll" "The Battle Of Evermore" ..Try one of their other early hits "Crazy On You" There's a few different live versions up here on KZbin from the 70s...

They transitioned beautifully from the 70's to the 80's. Not the only band to do so; The Doobie Brothers and ZZ Top come to mind immediately. Nancy is fabulous in her own right and I don't mean to take away from her when I say that Ann Wilson is simply legendary. She was in her 60's when they did the Led Zeppelin tribute. But I always put the sisters together; trailblazing female rockers. Totally badass!

No they did not transition beautifully. They were down and out. Their record company wouldn't let them write their own music. Forced these video on them that they hated. turned Nancy into a sex object and tried to hide Ann behind welder masks and veils because she gained weight etc. They have spoken quite a bit on how unhappy there were about all of it.

Heart was formed in 1967. Always Anne Wilson as the lead vocals except one song, "These Dreams" which Nancy took lead vocals. She had a cold when they recorded it, so her voice is scratchy , which adds something to the song.

Cool Reaction. Heart just began their world tour with Cheap Trick. And they will be joining the Def-Leppard stadium tour this summer. This is such in iconic song. But Heart didn't write it. This version is actually the third version of this song, and the best. Also, Ann & Nancy are definitely the core members of the band, but they are not the founders. Lead guitarist Roger Fisher and bassist Steve Fossen founded Heart in 1967 and hired Ann in 1970 and Nancy in 1974.

In 2012 they were selected to perform Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Tribute to Led Zeppelin right in front of LZ and the Obama’s! 'Power Ballad' (song) and 'Power Pop' (genre) would seem right-on for Heart. In my opinion (amateur rock/garage band musician for 51 years) the multiple genre labels for them and their productions seem to be swayed by the instrumental accompaniment they happened to choose for any given song. To comparatively imagine the vocal/melodic lines of the Wilsons on this song being backed by a grand piano and symphony orchestra, versus being backed by drums/keys/shred guitar...that sort of thing. Very same song, very different sounding genres. Jus my 2 cents

Heart is not one of the best "female rock groups" of all time; they are one of the best "rock groups" of all time. It doesn't need to be qualified with "female". OK, if you insist, they are both. Satisfied!?! LOL And, for the record, I just saw Ann Wilson in concert this past June (2023) so their career is still going. Lastly, you had EXACTLY the right reaction to that note Ann hits mid-song.
