The 1977 - 1979 era which were basically the Little Queen and Dog & Butterfly tours were the peak for this band for sure. Although my first concert in 1978 (at 10 years old thanks to a much older cousin smuggling me away) was after Magazine was released (the authorized release) but before D&B and everything at the merch booth had the Magazine cover on it so maybe there was a bit of a Magazine tour as well. I wish they had kept Devil Delight in the set longer -- it's one of their best early songs, and the pyrotechnics here are so cool. I remember an interview with Ann where she said they wanted the stage to look like Hell when the song kicks in. I saw Heart in 1987 after Bad Animals came out and they were excellent then as well, but it was almost like a greatest hits tour at that point because they played very few deep cuts and all of the great early tracks like Heartless and Devil Delight were long gone from the setlist. In fact in 1987 they sounded more like a metal band than a good ol' 70s hard rock band. It was good, just different.

THIS is why Heart is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 70s band is where the magic was with Heart. Fisher, Leese, DeRosier - tri-dymanic. Made the Wilson sister's all the better. After this, as other commenters have noticed once Fisher was out the slide begin. Six years later Ann would get a total makeover for the MTV era and those a-little-too glossy billboard hits started coming. This catches them in a creative and band dynamic. Heart is and was always more than just the Wilson sister show. Minstral Wind still causes me shivers down my spine.

They were never this good again after Roger left. The 85, 87, and 90 tours were a different band, still good but very much 80s hair metal and not organic like this. They got back to this in 2003/2004 after they reformed and had some good shows, but nothing like the early days.
@k.wilkie38144 жыл бұрын
@@roncoughman6221 I think they were good after Roger left, just very different. The 80 tour was the first without Roger and it was still pretty comparable to 78-79 aside from the horrid short version of Magic Man they started playing which I guess was because they figured Howard and Nancy couldn't play the guitar parts as well (which is BS, the 2000s version of the band has played it in it's original form and have done a great job). But starting with the Andes/Carmassi version of Heart their sound changed to a less heavy, more inconsistent sound. They had the terrible sounding drums 82-84, then the 85-86 version seemed to have very little bass or distortion in their guitars. 1987-88 (Bad Animals) was a phenomenal tour, very heavy guitar and sounding more like a hard rock band again, but the music was definitely more hair metal and pop aside from a few of the older tunes they still played. IMO the Brigade and Desire tours didn't sound all that good, and it wasn't until the new incarnation in 2002 that they really sounded heavy again. I didn't mean to write a dissertation, but I guess my point is they've had some very good shows musically since the early days, but the music was so different and they never really captured that organic, dark sound of the original band again. Devil Delight was such a great tune, and after Roger left there were no more Devils or Mistrals to be had.

I was 17 when I went to this show...I can still hear Roger Fisher's blazing tone...he was like watching Jimmy Page that night, only better cause he wasn't as drunk as Jimmy was a year earlier at the same venue...the double solos were immaculate and it was obvious that Heart was a power house that was here to stay...now they are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame...I have been a fan ever since, but it is this version with Roger Fisher that I love the most....

Technician obviously ran a tape and recorded many of these 70s bands as they came through the Cap Centre in Largo/Landover. Licensing would be a legal nightmare. I doubt these are legal. Yes, They were definitely at their peak on this tour.....no question. Never in the history of Rock & Roll did two women front such a great band! Ann & Nancy were just not " eye candy" either! Ann always had perhaps the most powerful, soulful voices in rock & roll history. PERIOD! Add that beautiful blonde sister of hers (Nancy) and her amazing guitar talents...along with the rest of that fantastic band...AND in my opinion you have one of the greatest bands of the Era! I saw them in '78 in Huntington, West Virginia..I had given up drinking and getting stoned in '78....and anyway I was straight as a stick. We were there super early and stood within 50 ft of the stage. I could see Ann very well from my vantage point. Honestly, I have never seen a woman with more "stage presence" than Ann Wilson. She owned that stage that night...and when they played "Cook With Fire" with giant torches on either side of the stage, I've never been more attracted or intimidated at the same time by WOMAN in my life! Wow! What a performance! Add "Devil Delight" right after "Cook With Fire" and I was HOOKED! Not only a great concert, but the sound quality was simply amazing! At this concert, off to one far corner. Nearly in front of me, they had two backup vocalists ..who wore headphones abd surrounded by plexiglass like they were in a studio . One was Susan Ennis I was told, who did background vocals on Dog & Butterfly. Sorry to write such a long post...but you can tell how impressed I was. It was hands down the greatest live performance I've ever been to or heard! Forever a Heart Fan! .

This is Heart at it's best blend of still having the hard edge they began with. It's a rare mix of folk and rock not unlike The Zep except without the blues component which suits the fact this is a kicking band led by women perfectly. I like the fact it's pretty "balls to the wall" pardon the expression. It's just a little loose and raw while still being technically proficient spelling a band wholly into what they're playing and feeding off the crowd. The thing that I keep thinking of is somewhere there's a broadcast quality tape of this show. We have to make due, but why couldn't that pristine master be unearthed and made available? In spite of the less than perfect quality it's definitely enjoyable to watch and listen to. I am impressed by the way Roger wails on guitar. When Ann and Nancy sing together it's almost hard to imagine how it takes it to another level. I saw them on this tour in Birmingham, AL. Lousiana's Leroux opened.

I think you mean the first "classic" lineup. The original lineup didn't have Nancy, Howard Leese nor Michael Derosier. Yes, I know. Knit picking.

Man, they really delivered a lot of music at this concert. Talk about pleasing the fans. Am I mistaken or is Ann Wilson packin' a Canadian accent here? Sure sounds like it near the end of this video. If so, she's lost the accent over the years. She is a beautiful lady in and out. Nancy Wilson too.

Whomever's name is on the credits, these songs are the result of band collaboration and input of many ideas & experimentation. How creative they are during this lineup. I'm looking at you Roger Fisher.

Somewhere someone has the original master footage of this concert. I wish they would stop being selfish and share it with us!

I think Mike Derosier's fans must have posted this in a chat room somewhere. He's a great drummer, but I've never seen so many comments about the drummer, even freaking John Bonham, lol.
