Thank you for the great clean movies. Hopalong is my favorite cowboy. Never saw his movies until last year. He is still riding Topper beyond the veil along with his saddle pals and his family with him too. He told kids to help their parents and many good things. There may be empty saddles in the old corral but they have their saddles to ride their horses over there. Movies of today teach no good heros like Hoppy. Thank you again for great movies about the old west.

Absolutely correct Karen !..there is Nothing Hollywood produces today that is watchable.I tuned it off years ago. It is all evil, full of sex, foul language, nudity, violence and completely void of any moral standards whatsoever ! Give me Hoppy , Flash Gordon and the movie classics from the 30's through the 50's and I am completely satisfied ! Also look up other greats like Legend of Wyatt Earp and Rifleman , if you like westerns with moral character. Dana Vn Era disabled Vet.. Combat Medic Surgery Tech First Army MEDDAC Dept. William Boyd was a silent film star who took on the role of Hopalong Cassidy at age 40. He made 66 feature films as Hopalong Cassidy beginning in 1935 - all quality movies with good production values! Hopalong Cassidy films were re-run on early TV in the 1950's so us Baby Boomer kids grew up with Hoppy! We had Hopalong Cassidy gunbelts, watches, lunch pails, comic books etc.! William Boyd and his famous white horse Topper did two world tours and it's estimated he was seen by 20 million people. His parades would easily draw 100,000 people! Boyd - born in 1895 - died in 1972 leaving quite a legacy of westerns! Often at the end of his films he would have a brief message for the little tykes to mind their mother and mind their manners!

When Hopalong Cassady hit the TV in early 50s, he had immense popularity. Our aunt took us young nieces and nephew to see him in Chicago. Couldn't get within a block of the stage. Did see him by jumping up and down. A long time ago.

"Looks like" -- of course it IS "the Alabama Hills." They're iconic; NO mistaking them. And as Hoppy viewers know, they were essentially his 'backlot' -- kind of like how Monument Valley is associated with director John Ford and his select John Wayne westerns.

Natalie Moorhead (1901-1992) - Belle Starr - went through most of her Hollywood career as a platinum blonde! From IMDb: Natalie Moorhead entered in films in 1929; by end of the following year, she had made dozens of credited movies. Moorhead was more effective with vampish roles, notably a role which she played a suspect in 'The Thin Man' (1934). Moorhead also made a mark as a comic actress in 'Hook, Line and Sinker' (1930) and 'Parlor, Bedroom and Bath' (1931). She later appeared in supporting roles until the mid-1940s.

Yes I understand that there will always be evil...but why does the good always set them selves up for it. Two guys on a cow trail . It's almost to paneful to watch. My prize bull and his off spring ,now you two take care of them. Knowing that there are bandits and rustlers all around. Yes I love seeing the old greats! My head just needs to adjust to the fact that it's all casting, not real life. All playing cowboys and bandits. Maybe if I wasn't so gosh darn cinnical.

With Belle's final words and subsequently the graveside scene where all are gathered, viewers assume Lucky and Jackie will indeed marry (certainly with Hoppy's blessings, as he alluded to) and eventually bring her (spirit / soul) the grandchildren she pined for along for her perpetual desires for Jackie's safety and happiness. YET the final scene is a generic looking shot of Hoppy, Windy and Lucky riding away, i.e., nothing with Jackie and Windy's nephew. This leads me to believe it's just a generic perhaps pulled from another "Hoppy" adventure. It's probably a given the boy goes back east for the next school year. But the convent's school where Jackie is a resident student has seen the last of her. Nice, SHARP print. NO ads. Fan - tastic.

Though I really like the Hoppy Movies, I still have a hard time accepting him since I read the original stories . William Boyd plays him like the kindly old uncle I would have liked. The books' character has him as a younger version of the part John Wayne played in True Grit. Not as a marshall, but just a "take no crap" tough guy. Like em both, but so different.

I've just read a couple of Louis L'Amour's "Hoppy" novels. The original author had no intereste in revisiting his character, so L'Amour was hired. His wish was to rewrite the original character but the editor wanted the Boyd-movie version of the character. L'Amour disclaimed writing the four "Hoppy" books almost to the end of his life though they ended up in his hardcover collection in the '80s.

NO Agnes Moorehead connection. 1) Natalie's family / birth last name was Morehead -- so, missing the second "o" of Agnes' Moorehead.. 2) Dec. 6, 1900 is Agnes' birthdate; July 27, 1901 is Natalie's -- biologically impossible, only seven months separating their births. ANYONE could do a two-minute perusal on IMDB and confirm. Lastly, the successful actresses' faces have little if any similarities. "Thank you, 'Nevada Jane.'"

So, let a story be a story. I don't see any assertion that what we are about to view is the unadulterated truth. If you want a documentary, turn to the History or National Geographic channel! Quit trying to make Western movies something they never claimed to be; sit back and be entertained for an hour. It's as simple as that!!

"vawlkee51," You can double that for Roy Rogers' "Days of Jesse James" (1939) where 27-year old Donald "Red" Berry portrays the famous outlaw. No one in Hollywood, academia or the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts expects authenticity in 'B' Westerns of that era. Just like in the 19th century no one, similarly expected authenticity in 'dime novels', the equivalent of 'B' movies for that pre-motion pictures era. Even in 'A' westerns 'they' get Belle wrong.

"GoldTradersNiche," Obviously NOT the 1890s because Belle died in '89. Being born in 1848 and having her daughter Jackie be of convent boarding school AND courting / marriage age, mid to late teens, puts this smack, dab in the middle of the 1880s. Keep in mind, as most do, that 'B' westerns are known for playing 'loose' with the facts and figures and truth.
