GOD bless Garrison and Peter Ostroushko, we miss you both. Saturday evenings will never be the same without Prairie Home Companion.

The greatest thing about this great clip is how deeply the other musicians are listening to Peter, and how much respect and appreciation they show for his mastery. It brings me to tears every time I watch and listen.

Rest in peace. Such beautiful touch on the mandolin.

I attended a festival in West Virginia where he performed. He joined me in playing “Midnight of the Water” as I sat on a bench along a path. Later, we shared a long car ride to the airport to return to the Midwest. I wish I had known Peter better but grateful for the memories.

My uncle is one hell of a human. I say is because an artist never truly dies, it doesn't feel right to speak of him in past tense. This song, even before his passing always choked me up. In 2005 Peter's niece; my sister had passed away. He was gracious enough to put on a benefit concert in her honor and he played this song, this is the one that really did me in that day. His music, his stories, his heart is much larger than I ever knew and the outreach that the Ostroushko family has received is pretty remarkable.

listening to this now and sending you love from our home in Corvallis, Oregon where we are deeply saddened by events in Ukraine. This music has helped express some of that sadness. Thank you.

Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. I don't think I've ever heard a mandolin played with so much soul.

Garrison Keillor wrote in his column today, "My Ukrainian friend Peter Ostroushko didn’t live to see this moment of history, but I think of him often, and if you have a few minutes you could Google Pete playing “Heart of the Heartland” on KZbin and think of Russian tanks closing in on that mandolin player, and it will break your heart in two." True words.

Glad that Garrison posted this in his column today. I don't think I knew that Peter had died. He was a very talented man who I loved to listen to on Prairie Home Companion. RIP, Peter.

I just read it, too. I am already heartsick at Ukraine but when GK wrote "imagine about tanks closing in" on Peter, well, it's just too much to bear. Glory to Ukraine. Requiescat in Pace 🙏 Peter, you beautiful man.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The music brought me to tears and then wiped my tears away. Your comments also give me hope for our times especially when you find humor in daily experiences. My goal during this pandemic has been to do my best to make someone laugh every day. I'm a standup comic at heart and believe that laughter is the best medicine all the time and the only one sometimes.

I don't think so. I think it was written by Peter about thirty years ago.

Worst shot video in history, frustrating to watch. The sound however is of good quality and the band is absolutely marvelous.

If that song doesn't touch something inside you I don't know what would. Sorry to hear of his passing.
