So the drummer is John Bonham’s son and he was also known for wearing that hat which is why when the curtain went up and the entire chorus was there in the back and they all had the hat on it was so emotional one of the greatest performances ever And it seemed like Robert wasn’t smiling I think he was just so emotional that it was hard to contain it

I hadn’t realized the hat until just viewing it recently! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this performance and not noticed the choir wearing the hat too!

Yes. Led Zep were told that no one from the Bonham family would be at the Kennedy Center to represent Bonzo. That was a smokescreen to cover for bringing Jason onstage and then featuring the choir with the hat tribute to John. Both were surprises for the band. As others have mentioned, Bonzo was Robert's best friend, and Robert considers himself a father figure to Jason. Robert later said he was thinking of the senselessness of Bonzo's loss abd how much he wished John could be there to see Jason play abd to hear the tribute himself. He was holding on to powerful emotions, which he let go the moment Annie crushed that note at "to be a rock abd nit to RRRROOOOLLLLL." Thst was why he couldn't smike until.the end. But he was the first one up for the standing ovation. We can'r even write moments this beautiful.

I saw in an interview (I can't remember who) where they said Robert Plant was very emotional watching John Bonham's son Jason, all grown up, playing drums like his Dad. Robert Plant and John Bonham were good friends before he tragically passed. I could listen to this performance daily ❤️

What a voice she still has. I remember seeing this first time, I had chills. And broke out crying seeing Jason Bonham playing his dads drums. She put her own spin on the song so respectful of LED ZEPPELIN. she could have blown the roof down with her voice Jayy! But she didn't. Led zeppelin and heart were popular at same time..

Great choice, the best tribute they deserved. Fabulous, I've watched this video hundreds of times and it always brings tears to my eyes. To see the smiling and proud faces of John Paul and Jimmy Page contrasting with the sad and pensive look of Plant, God. What was he thinking, maybe remembering the first time he performed this masterpiece. How lucky are those of us of a certain age to grow up with music as creative and of such a level as it was done in the sixties and seventies. I love you reaction . Every year, the Kennedy Center (Washington DC) gives tribute to several people. In addition to Led Zeppelin, there were several others who were honored. Generally, the President does come to them. Also in the audience were several people in the Senate or House as well as people like Jimmy KimmelI and Bonnie Raite (sic). You may have noticed that David Letterman (who was also being honored that night) was sitting beside Jimmy Page. Loved your reaction!!!

Some of their stuff from the 80's and 90's is pretty good too. They were actually more popular, had bigger hits and more of them in their later phase but I do prefer the older songs by a little.
