@@Vantage_pointsaccording to Dave Marsh’s “The Heart of Rock and Soul,” Michael McDonald wrote the lyrics on a NY-LA plane ride and was fussing with the melody when Loggins pulled up to his place for their first collaboration session. What man hasn't been there...or even a woman for that matter, "The song is about a man who is in love with a woman, but he's not sure if she feels the same way about him. The song explores the theme of unrequited love and the idea that sometimes we can fool ourselves into believing that someone feels the same way we do. In the end, the man realizes that he was a fool to believe that the woman loved him, but he's also hopeful that one day she'll return his love."

I was 19 when this was filmed in 1993, I was into metal and hard rock. Now as I approach 50, I've discovered the power of smooth music. Girls used to scream and faint when Elvis walked onto the stage. That's how I feel watching Loggins and McDonald sing together in such a beautiful place. Their improvisation together is perfect, along with the instrumentation. When singers and musicians reach this level of mastery, they make it look so easy and natural. I've also seen Loggins freestyling with Daryl Hall. Loggins can vibe with any great musician any time, any place.

I grew up with my dad playing this at ear deafeningly loud volume on laser disk back in the mid 90s. This whole concert would echo through the house and you couldn’t escape it. Watching this takes me back to a simpler time with my sisters and family.

What a rendition, McDonald such a pro, leaving the space for Loggins and the band, so humble.
