@@19katherine1213 if the problem you refer to is "racism," I can tell you how to not make it better: by making kids bitter, resentful,ashamed, weak, and unaccountable to themselves. By teaching them to blame others for anything that doesn't go well for them. By using racist concepts like "privilege" to paint an entire race with a single brush. The way you fight racism is as follows: "Kids, racism exists. So what? You gonna let some idiots dictate your success, the way you feel, what you do and how you do it? No, you're not. Treat everyone with kindness, and you'll get kindness in return. But not always. And when you don't, you stay away from those people and get on with leading the best life you can. And don't use racism as an excuse. There are lots of forces in the world that can get in your way, and people overcome those negative forces every day. That's your job. To succeed despite racism. There will always be racists. So what? There will also always be earthquakes, wars, murders, locusts, epidemics, etc. What matters is not what may stop you, but what you are going to do to prevent those things from stopping you. "have you ever felt bad for having a bad grade" "have you ever experienced your family not be able to afford something you wanted" remember guys, its only intolerance if its skin color...because no one wants to admit that humans beings are predisposed to seeing DIFFERENCE and being opposed to it. Anyone notice the lack of people with physical defects? No wheelchair kids, no kids with aspergers, no kids with adhd. Ask that red haired kid how often he gets teased for looking different. Remember its all about being white...because being the first to sail across the seas and colonize makes white people the arbitors of evil cause NO OTHER races would EVER do that. *cough* asians....*cough* africans. There's THREE main racial identities that all other races stem from. Mongoloid, Caucoid, Negroid. No amount of what you look like will stop you from succeeding if you work hard for it. The fact that some people have to work harder IS CALLED LIFE. Stupid people have to work harder to than less stupid people, good looking people have to work less than ugly people. OH WELL!! This is some truly insidious stuff. To think that there are actually people on the left that wholeheartedly approve of and agree with this message and think that they will be on the right side of history... The mind boggles. EDIT - This has also aged REEEEEAAAALLLLYYY badly. I mean three years later and the Mayor of London is Sadiq Khan, the first minister of Scotland is Hamza Yousuff, and the prime minister of Great Britain is Rishi Sunak. How did this happen in an institutionally, fundamentally racist country? It’s almost like this is all race baiting nonsense...

The kids were getting along perfectly fine regardless of their race. This game just created division and resentment. Way to go!
@aceboogisback99462 жыл бұрын
Do you realize that this is essentially the same argument that segregationists and white supremacists made during America's Jim Crow? "If these rabble-rousers would just leave our 'n-words' alone and stop telling them that they have rights, there wouldn't be any division, hatred, or violence."
@quentinj72362 жыл бұрын
Children are not as dumb and senseless as you seem to believe. They can understand the illustration with which they were presented. Many of the children have already been aware that their skin tone, hair and eyes cause society to look at them differently. It's crazy that you and many of these commenters want to blame the illustration for division rather than acknowledging the division that the illustration is exposing. All of the children who spoke recognized that what was happening wasn't the way it should be or "fair." Honestly, I think fairness is a fairytale. Too many things in life are not fair and may be impossible to make fair. The goal often should be logical, reasonable, sensible and causing as little harm as possible. Last point. You said they were "getting along fine regardless of their race." What races are these children? We need to realize that what we often consider "race" has no actual scientific or biological basis. Again, that's part of what this illustration is attempting to highlight. It shows that all of the children really are similar and should really be treated equally, however, society doesn't necessarily do that. Skin tone, eye color and hair (and language) do not and should not define people. The sooner we realize this thing we think is "race" is off base, the better off our societies will be.

@@potato_nyin_6448 This is the UK, not the US. Rather than jumping to the hasty and lazy conclusion that white people do better because of racial privilege, let’s at least have the honesty and awareness to acknowledge that academic attainment, job prospects, social influence, political power, economic situation, etc is influenced by a complex web of factors that can’t be reduced down to a simple explanation. Class, culture, family structure, community, personal choice and responsibility, etc all play a role. It’s an inconvenient truth to CR theorists that Asians outperform white people both academically and economically; to the extent that university admissions boards have started classing Asians as honorary whites. However, after the race and questions that were given during the race made them feel guilty and they knew what racism is. And even if they didn't do any bad things, people judge them just with their skin colour. I felt bad for these kids. So, I think one of the best things to do is we need to educate them to treat everyone with respect and this will help them to feel happy. As a black person, I find this downright painful to watch. When you’re trying to raise a generation of kids that don’t care about race, you do it without influence. A society that doesn’t have any influence will inherently be perfect. What this does is build a generation of people that hate themselves for being white or think shit like black people can’t be racist. It’s concerning. You are not making anyone further from being privileged, in fact you’re making them have more of a head start to racist attitudes. Then again I’m African so “what do I know about racism lol” Please don’t say “oh it’s for the greater good” the only good thing about what they’re doing is that they’re taking it slow and so called “teaching” them without just downright saying that they’re racist. 'Lived experiences' will differ dramatically from person to person. Being aware of the differences doesn't change a damn thing, it's only meant to shame another that hasn't had the lived experience that you'd say has had it 'better'. Each challenge in life, shapes us all into who we are... if we were all the same, no one would be unique or different. This is utter garbage and against one certain group of people.
