Yes, very sad what we humans do to nonhuman animals, starving and neglecting, etc. For instance the starving of chickens in the egg industry for 2 weeks at a time (forced molting) to get them to go through another egg-laying cycle. 😢

We found our dog abandoned by a river. No collar, no chip, covered with fleas, ticks and tapeworms. Had to be out there at least a month, probably more. He's very loving and is my little buddy.

We're so ready to condemn the dog's previous owner as an abandoner with no evidence that what happened was an actual case of abandonment. Dogs sometimes leave home with no encouragement to do so. That one could have traveled dozens, maybe hundreds of miles before finally getting to the point of depletion. His owner may have posted dozens of lost dog signs all around their community, with zero responses. The story evokes greater emotion to make a human failure responsible for the dog's anguish. I'm happy for him, and I also know that many dogs don't have a happy ending. I've had to put down dogs before and it really hurts to do it. Maybe such a decision was faced by the dog's owner and he (or she) couldn't pull the trigger, simply letting the dog go in nature, hoping for a merciful outcome. Chemical euthanasia may seem more humane, but dogs have keener sense of smell than we can imagine. They smell the death that has preceded them, and they are frightened despite seeming calm.

He looks just like my dog. I saved her 3 years ago, she had the same eyes and that sadness was the reason why I have to take her with me. This was a lovely and kind rescue. However, the saddest of cases are on farms because it is literally many hundreds of Billions of innocent animals every year. None would have to go through such horrors if we all simply woke up to more kindness and compassion and stoppped killing and eating them..

This has made me cry. I recently said good-bye to my much-loved, senior dog. It was the last thing I wanted to do, but I didn’t want him to continue in pain. I buried him in my backyard so he could always be home. The thought of someone just dumping this sweet dog, seeing him so dejected and in pain…it’s too much. I wish there was some way for the person to see this, to see what they caused, and then see how happy their dog is without them.
