Both the Ferns and this England team are a credit to the game. The whole tournament has been brilliant. Hopefully The RFU and unions around the world will stop the disgraceful underfunding and under promotion of the womens game. It's a great product., I'm ashamed to say I am someone who probably wouldn't have watched this World Cup. I caught a game courtesy of the youtube algorithm. I was immediately hooked.Its a wonderful product and easily as good as the mens game

Give credit to the RFU who have been properly funding the women’s game for a while, now. I’ve been going to Red Roses games for six years and it’s been clear for a long time that the game was rapidly becoming world class, and every bit as skilful, exciting, and intense as the men’s game. This year, I think, women’s rugby really came of age and became noticed by enough people to create a critical mass. It will only get better from here.
@langdalepaul
@langdalepaul Жыл бұрын
I do remember, a number of times, at Twickenham, when the RFU had scheduled a Red Roses match directly after the men’s match. Half the crowd had left, and half the remainder were in the bars. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. I was ashamed of English rugby supporters, to be honest. They didn’t know what they were missing. Hopefully things will change now.

Agree but for that comment by the coach about the red card. That reply about the red card incident let the English effort down. I watch so much rugby and see lesser collisions red carded but can't remember a similar one being a yellow only. Sorry but he let his women and the final down.

@@chandlabing782 Little bit harsh , I think . He was asked a direct question about the incident and replied in a direct fashion . You see a man disappointed by the result and upset by the loss , who is asked a question that we all knew would trigger a response which is likely to be contentious and a little raw . Put yourself in his seat , how would you respond ? And before you say this is just sour grapes , I'm a kiwi and support our team . But I agree with the coach that it is unfortunate , not deliberate .

@@tonyrata4796 yeah maybe a bit harsh, but he didn't say it was unfortunate and not deliberate, he said he has seen such head clashes not be given as a red card. My comment is, that he could have said that it was consistent with rulings throughout the tournament. Head on head with no deflection, or ball carrier ducking is and has all tournament been called red. The English player was not out to do harm as most aren't. We all want to see consistency and we did. He knew he'd be asked about it and should have been more professional with his response, we saw his players respond very professionally.

@@chandlabing782 I don't disagree with you , but coaches are coaches , not diplomats , and tend to feed on their emotions , which sometimes spill out before diplomacy can be added . I agree he could have handled this differently , but emotion sometimes trumps diplomacy . You're right when you ask for consistancy , but I ask you ; when has sport ever truly been consistant ? The best that can be hoped for is that he realises he might have handled this in a better way and modify his responses in future . Finally , what a fantastic game , the best advertisment for the womans game . It can only move forward and I look forward to watching it's progress ! Cheers !

The Red Roses ticked everything on their match day list, the performance, effort, attitude, just not the score line. if they were professional; the number 14 shouldn't even try that tackle.... she made no attempt to wrap Portia Woodman as she just barged to her head to head contact; Black Ferns only converted two of their multiple tries they scored... the score would have been much higher if the tries is duly converted. no mitigating factor unlike Kennedy where it was shoulder hit then to the head (if Kennedy were to hit head to head like the England #14, then a red is needed)

I could weep for Sarah having to go through that. I still think it was a mistake taking her off that early - her leadership counts for so much. Considering how long England played one short, that was one hell of a performance. Well done and commiserations. Still slightly mystified why the NZ player who gave our winger a direct head shot didn’t get a red either. The only blemish on an otherwise excellent performance by the ref. Finally, congratulations, albeit through gritted teeth 😉, to NZ. As Simon Middleton said, sometimes it’s written in the stars.

It's a shame someone had to lose, the whole tournament was an amazing spectacle. Such a great exhibition of rugby. I hope everyone, including the respective RFU's start to appreciate women's rugby and open the wallets

English and World womans rugby should be so proud of the way they have conducted themselves. As a proud NZer I can honestly say whilst I knew England were clear favourites I did not know one players name or the coaching staff. Havent listened with great admiration to your interviews after the game the entire English playing and management team deserve a massive amount of credit for showing the rest of the sporting world what true sport(wo)manship is. And as a proud father of four girls every single one of you should be proud of the humanity and care you have shown on and off the field...if we had a few of youin charge of climate change the solutions would have been found by now.....Now there's a thought!!

As a Black Fern fan... well done England Coach and Captain. That's how you do a press conference.... played bravely with only 14 players for 60mins and you almost won.

It was a great game and the English should be so proud of these girls for contributing to one hell of a game, they went down fighting all the way till the time ran down. Sad there is a loser because Women Rugby was a show stopper. Hold your head high ladies. Thank you all.

If they went into the comp saying one result won't define us we can be proud no matter what.... and repeated it before the final? That's poor coaching. Just lining up excuses before the game is even played put them in a terrible frame of mind for the final and shows you how afraid they were of the pressure. No wonder they had such a hard time in the semi and the final, the only 2 real pressure games of the whole comp. This captain is great really feel for her.

A very entertaining Final! Amy Cokayne's lineout throws should be a syllabus every young #2 has to watch at the beginning of every season. They're arguably why the Roses' maul started off so successful (read: you could not force them out to side line, nor disrupt their path or reception. They were *clinically* good).
