I have been making these since 1983 when we lived in Fairmont, West Virginia near Grafton. I believe the little shop down the road was the first to make Pepperoni rolls. We have made them plain then slice open and add cheese and sauce over the years. You can’t mess these up. Thank you for the video. I use yours to send links to my friends when they want me to share the recipe. Bravo!

I'm from WV. I cheat using the Rhodes Texas Size Rolls. I started using kitchen scissors to chop up the pepperoni, really gives it a good texture. I use provolone or mozzarella and spray the tops with cooking spray. I live in OH now on the WV border. We're still spoiled because every gas station and grocery store or local bakery still sells them❤

I'm originally from West Virginia but have been in georgia since 2005. So glad to have found a quick and easy recipe for that taste of home instead of having to hoard a stash to bring back to georgia every time I come back to WV. However instead of mozzarella string cheese I used pepper jack instead.Made these for some of my co workers at amazon. They had of course never heard of pepperoni rolls but the general consensus was what have I been missing out on all my life.. Lol. Great channel and I look forward to more great content.

I am from Huntington, WV myself. I had my first pepperoni rolls from a bakery in Fairmont but those had no cheese. I started making them like you showed for my wife & daughters about ten years ago adding mozzarella at their request and even a small dollop of pizza sauce. It got a bit hard finding decent frozen rolls in our stores, so I started making my own dough. Takes more time but actually a bit better. I like stick, but the girls like sliced pepperoni. Thanks for the video.

Thanks so much for this video.I'm from PA. My local grocer had these in the deli for years. Loved them. Unfortunately they went out of business a few years ago. I'm going to make these with Marguritte (sp) sandwich pepperoni. Best pepperoni I have ever tasted. Expensive when it's not on sale, but worth every penny. Can't recall what cheese was in them. I think I'll try provolone.

My mom bought frozen bread dough but I like the frozen roll idea better. She put a stick of pepperoni (the cheaper and greasier the better because it infiltrates the bread with flavor) and stick of mozzarella, stick of green pepper, and made a sauce with tomatoe paste and oregano to spoon in and sealed it all up and baked. They were amazing. I find them harder to make with all those ingredients and I will try your idea….I think some marinara sauce on teh side of your recipe would be wonderful. Or…don’t forget Oliverios peppers/n/sauce! Kroger stores sell them in TN.

Where in TX are you now? Double Dave’s pizza are the best period. Then again, I didn’t know these were a WV thing. I am gonna make these in DD fashion and add Italian Seasoning and a bit of tomato sausage. I have been doing it with a simple Flour tortilla and microwave it for 40 secs. My kid loves it for breakfast with a blue cheese dip but I want to be more authentic.
@HeartFilledHomemaking3 жыл бұрын
I'm in south east TX. I wasn't aware that double Dave's had these. Classic pepperoni rolls are an actual roll. Closer to a dinner roll than to a calzone. They're fluffy soft usually with only pepperoni inside, but I like the cheese.

Sorry, but cheese in a pepperoni roll becomes a pizza roll. Nona would never add anything except maybe pepeeroncini peppers if they were ripe in the garden. My Italian grandfather carried two rolls in his lunch pail everyday to the mines in Preston County, WV. Cheese would kill the shelf life. Otherwise, one batch Sunday feeds him lunch all week.
@HeartFilledHomemaking4 ай бұрын
I agree, but we like them with cheese occasionally. I also brush garlic butter on top sometimes.
